Lesson 3
Let’s Do Some Art!
Slot Sculpture Challenge
You will need to read all of the
slides and watch the videos before
you begin the project!
I challenge you to create a slot
sculpture using cardboard,
cardstock, poster board, or foam
cups/plates.
I understand that many people do not have art supplies in their homes….
This project everyone can find the materials to do……...this is what you will need
Materials
● Cardboard (cereal box, frozen food box, coke carton…) cardstock, poster
board, cardboard rolls, foam plates or cups

Drawings
Patterns
Color
Shape
● Stand on its own
Cardboard
If you have art supplies please use them but if you do not
here are some ideas…
Styrofoam Cups
As paint: shoe polish, nail polish, strong tea or coffee, Koolaid , food coloring, easter egg dye, rit dye
For drawing: ink pens, highlighters, chalk, bleach pens, eyeliner, liquid paper, lip liner…..
Texture: cover your pieces in foil, sandpaper, wrap in string or yarn, pierce and stitch edges, punch holes
Let’s get started
1. Cut the material you are using into
manageable sizes and then create
your shapes (may be geometric or organic
or a mix of both)
2. Add the enhancements to your shapes
using whatever supplies you have at
home. Be creative...I will give you
some ideas on another slide.
3. Finally, the pieces will be cut,
creating slots. Watch the video to
learn how to correctly cut the slots.
Step 4 on the next slide
4. Join the pieces to create a free standing sculpture. Keep in mind movement and balance.
You can move pieces and try different combinations until you find one you love. Watch
…….
ATTENTION HOW TO TURN YOUR WORK IN
When you are finished place your sculpture in a well lighted area,
write your name (first and last) in large print on a piece of paper
and place it beside your sculpture so the name shows….take a
couple of photos from different angles. Make sure your name is
visible in the photos. You may:
● Add your photos to a google doc/google slide and submit
● Email your photos to me at valerie.roberts@pampaisd.net
● Send your photos to me on REMIND
I WILL NOT take photos that do not have a name visible beside
the sculpture
