Lesson 3 Let’s Do Some Art! Slot Sculpture Challenge You will need to read all of the slides and watch the videos before you begin the project! I challenge you to create a slot sculpture using cardboard, cardstock, poster board, or foam cups/plates. I understand that many people do not have art supplies in their homes…. This project everyone can find the materials to do……...this is what you will need Materials ● Cardboard (cereal box, frozen food box, coke carton…) cardstock, poster board, cardboard rolls, foam plates or cups ● Scissors ● Art supplies to enhance sculpture ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ Pencils or pens to draw or doodle Paints, markers, or colored pencils to add color Foil, cloth, sandpaper to add texture Tools to punch holes or sew edges Beads, gems, buttons, to glue on Be creative…... Your sculpture must have: ● 12 pieces or more ● Be enhanced in some way ○ ○ ○ ○ Drawings Patterns Color Shape ● Stand on its own Cardboard If you have art supplies please use them but if you do not here are some ideas… Styrofoam Cups As paint: shoe polish, nail polish, strong tea or coffee, Koolaid , food coloring, easter egg dye, rit dye For drawing: ink pens, highlighters, chalk, bleach pens, eyeliner, liquid paper, lip liner….. Texture: cover your pieces in foil, sandpaper, wrap in string or yarn, pierce and stitch edges, punch holes Let’s get started 1. Cut the material you are using into manageable sizes and then create your shapes (may be geometric or organic or a mix of both) 2. Add the enhancements to your shapes using whatever supplies you have at home. Be creative...I will give you some ideas on another slide. 3. Finally, the pieces will be cut, creating slots. Watch the video to learn how to correctly cut the slots. Step 4 on the next slide 4. Join the pieces to create a free standing sculpture. Keep in mind movement and balance. You can move pieces and try different combinations until you find one you love. Watch ……. ATTENTION HOW TO TURN YOUR WORK IN When you are finished place your sculpture in a well lighted area, write your name (first and last) in large print on a piece of paper and place it beside your sculpture so the name shows….take a couple of photos from different angles. Make sure your name is visible in the photos. You may: ● Add your photos to a google doc/google slide and submit ● Email your photos to me at valerie.roberts@pampaisd.net ● Send your photos to me on REMIND I WILL NOT take photos that do not have a name visible beside the sculpture
