The character I have chosen to write about is Adolf Hitler. I chose him because he is the bad guy/villain in the book ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ and I know a lot about him. Adolf Hitler emerged out of the anger of the defeat from World War I. He wanted to create the perfect race - The Aryans. He felt that Germany and Germans should be pure. He discriminated against many people, including: Educators, Romans, Communists, Homosexuals, Jews and the mentally and physically disabled people and others deemed unfit for the survival in Nazi Germany. In the novel, Bruno feels that the ‘Fury’ (Führer) is an authoritative man. The ‘Fury’ was the rudest guest Bruno had ever witnessed. ‘He turned around and walked directly into the dining room and promptly sat down at the head of the table - in Father’s seat! He thinks the ‘Fury’ is a horrible man. This quote is from the book; it shows that even then he had no humility. He discriminated against many people who didn’t have fair hair or blue eyes - even though they were Germans - which seems quite a funny thought because Hitler himself did not have these features. World War II commenced when Hitler invaded Poland on the 1st of September 1939. He rose to power through the Nazi Party, an organization he created after returning as a humiliated wounded soldier from the annihilating trench warfare of World War I. He was responsible for the mass genocide of over a million Jews and the creation of concentration and death camps. His approach was to cleanse the German people of any race/colour that he did not deem pure. No one likes the Führer. He is a small man with a tiny moustache and he wears soldiers’ clothes. He is an authoritative man, the evidence is that he is commanding the German kingdom of soldiers, fighting to protect their families and their beloved country, to avoid yet another humiliating defeat at the hands of the British Empire.
