IISc was established in 1909 and claims a large, green campus in Bangalore, Karnataka. It continues to remain one of the best institutes in the world for scientific research. It was ranked first in the NIRF rankings for three consecutive years and as of 2019, is in the top 200 list of the QS rankings. The Undergraduate course with a heavy emphasis on an interdisciplinary syllabus was introduced in 2011. IISc, with its distinctive heritage, skilled community and past and present research projects is an active contributor to the fields of science and engineering. About Pravega Born from the minds of the undergraduate community at IISc Bangalore is an idea that grew into an intoxicating four-day experience. Merely 7 years old but having gained enough momentum since its inception, it is now recognized as one of the top fests in India. Delivering a racemic blend of science, art and culture and promising a schedule complete with a myriad of competitions, expert workshops and electrifying performances from top artists — Indian and international, this is the site of a footfall of thousands, a fest that is undeniably growing bigger by the year. Earn a new perspective to your favourite field(s) of science. Put on your thinking caps for Pravega ‘20 science 1 DECOHERENCE A national physics competition with a special twist! This is one of the flagship events of Pravega and attracts all science lovers and research enthusiasts. Decoherence is a research intensive event which allows participants to experiment in a physics lab and find solutions for questions in a period of 24 hours. Selected teams must then present their findings in a medium of their choice. They will be judged on the basis of their report, responses to criticism and how they critique other teams under the watchful eyes of a panel consisting of reputed professors of IISc. Get ready to combat the challenges of Decoherence at Pravega ‘20. 2 CHEMENIGMA Explore the science of chemistry through a scientist's eyes - where there is no precise problem, no clear experiment and only vague theory. Take your own decisions and conduct experiments until you find your answer. After qualifying for the experimental stage, participants will be presented with problems directly impacting the daily lives of people and will have to find innovative solutions to them. They will then explain to scientists the strengths and compromises of their approach. This event is a true representative of the challenges a scientist today faces. Come see for yourself! science 3 WHODUNNIT Something terrible is happening at IISc. Fest-goers find themselves caught up in a web of suspicion, deceit, and murder. Fear and terror fill every heart at the institute. Can you get to the bottom of the mystery before all hell breaks loose? Put on your cloak and your deerstalker cap, and come to the institute to find clues, collect evidence and crack the case. The public is counting on you. Come to Whodunnit, one of Pravega's long-running events, and show us your mettle as a first-rate detective. There is no time to waste - the game is afoot! 4 ENUMERATION An event for all the math-heads out there! Enumeration is a competition to test a set of abilities including but not limited to mathematical ability, logical reasoning, deduction and analysis. In addition to problem solving, this event requires you to constitute claims and support them with convincing arguments. As an overall test of your skills as a reliable mathematician, Enumeration is a platform to put your abilities under examination and develop a new approach to math. science 5 QUADSPARK Pravega ‘20 invites young geniuses of India to its school quiz competition, Quadspark to compete with students from other metropolitan cities. A quiz designed for students of classes 9 and 10 to check their own understanding. Do you have a firm grasp on science? Pull your socks, put on your hats and get ready to face the heat! 6 MOLECULAR MURALS This is a perfect combination of art and creative science. In this event, participants will be provided with a blank canvas in the form of a white t-shirt. They are to bring their artistic visions out on their canvas. But hold your breath! It's not as simple as it seems. There will be a number of fun twists to enthral you and make you think proactively with the given constraints :) 7 WHAT WOULD DARWIN DO? This is a game we play every second of our lives. And at every step, you will find that there is a lot more strategizing and thinking to do in biology. This event consists of a strategy making, a scavenger hunt and data analysis. What would you do if, for every question that is asked, you knew the answers given by your friends? Charging the air with an almost tangible excitement and energy, this is the event that draws an ecstatic crowd to catch some of the most talented bands in action. And for Pravega ‘20, this just might be you. 2 LASYA Pravega’s dance extravaganza is here in a new avatar allowing participants to compete under two categories: Aurum and Novare. Aurum: a category encompassing International and Indian classical/folk styles of dance to promote refined and elegant performances that reflect the purity of gold. Novare: the category that includes all modern strains of dance from freestyle to fusion, encouraging artists to infuse their moves with innovation and creativity. Footprints is an open street play (Nukkad Natak) competition where participants across the country get to portray a compelling narrative and flaunt their acting prowess on the streets of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. An expert panel will be present to judge your plays and give you advice to help improve your skills. The Streets are waiting for you! cultural 5 IISc NATIONAL PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE In a first of its kind at IISc, this parliamentary debate is aimed at bringing together some of the brightest high school level speakers in the country to present their views and battle each other on the most pertinent and burning issues in contemporary India and the world. Following a rigorous Asian parliamentary format, adjudicated by some of the best international debaters India has produced, this event is set to present a nail biting experience for all those witnessing it. 6 SHUTTERS Shutters encourages photographers from around the country, amateur or professional to showcase their talent and unique perspective.
