George Ierapetritis DR2220 The Theatrical Event Topic Proposal 21-3-19 Appia’s use of lighting on stage As I read about Adolph Appia and his work on theatre, I got interested on how he uses lighting to create a three-dimensional space. Appia uses lighting to create shadows in his scenes. Moreover, he uses lighting to create levels and light up different areas on the stage. In my paper I will analyze how and why Appia experimented with lighting in his stage. Overall, I would like to point out why we consider his contribution so valuable to contemporary theatre.
