“Say Something!!!”
Reading Strategy
1. With your partner, decide who will “say something” first.
2. Take turns reading a “chunk” of the selection aloud (stop @ every 8 or 10 lines).
3. Pause and say something about what was read. Do one or more of the following:
a. Summarize all or part of the chunk
b. Ask a question
c. Clarify something you misunderstood
d. Make a comment or inference
4. If you can’t do one of these four things, then you need to reread the chunk.
5. Your partner now offers a response to what was said.
6. Switch roles & repeat with the next chunk of text.
