Tomas, Kindergarten, Dyslexia
The disability that Tomas is showing is dyslexia. “Dyslexia is a learning disorder that
involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they
related to letters and words, which affects areas of the brain that process language” (Dyslexia,
2017). While Tomas was excited about attending school, his struggles came about when it was
time for instruction. His inabiltiy to identify letters, shapes and understand simple intructions
shows that Tomas has a form dyslexia. Tomas’ teacher was able to notice the changes and call a
meeting wih his parents. During this meeting it would be benefical to have the EC chairperson
for support to assist the teacher in explaining the next steps to assist Tomas’ in achieving
academic success.
Harper, 3rd grade
The disability that Harper is showing is a form of Autism. “Autism refers to a
developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social
interaction. Characteristics that are often associated with autism are engaging in repetitive
activities, and stereotyped movements” (Special Education Guide, 2019). The struggles that she
is displaying unable to handle loud noises, becoming upset about the noise level and rocking
back and forth all shows signs of Autism. Once Harper has been diagnosed with Autism she will
be able to reach the following milestones, “children with autism tend not to reach all of their
developmental milestones at the appropriate times” Rudy, 2019).
Austin, 5th grade
Austin’s injury is related to traumatic brain injury. “Traumatic brain injury applies

information processing and speech” (Traumatic Brain Injury, 2019). With this disability Austin
will need additional time to complete assignments, and chunking directions. While Austin may
