Goals: The students are expected to develop the comprehension of the course material in English, improve their computational skills and demonstrate writing ability of solutions with logical steps. Emphasis will be given to the understanding of the statement of problem and the mathematical terminology. The medium of instruction will be English. The course primarily aims at the development of critical thinking among students through the Mathematical concepts studied at the High School level. Exams and Evaluation: This course has two Major Exams and a final Exam. All these exams are multiple choice question exams. In addition, students are to be continuously evaluated using short quizzes with structured questions as well as homework. All exams and quiz materials are to be based on the examples, homework problems, and the exercises of the textbook. Grading Policy: Activity: Weighting: Quizzes 15% Home Work and Attendance 05% First Major exam 22% Second Major exam 22% Final examination 36% Total 100% Missing an Exam: This will be analyzed case by case. However, no makeup exam will be given under normal circumstances. When a student misses Exam I or Exam II for a legitimate reason (such as medical emergencies), his grade for this exam will be determined based on the Department policy. Furthermore, the student must provide an official excuse within one week of the missed exam. Attendance: 1. A student will be awarded the GRADE “DN” after accumulating 5 officially excused and unexcused absences. It is the responsibility of the student to keep the record of his absences. 2. The student who arrives late 5 minutes from the beginning of the lecture will be considered late. If a student is late 3 times, he will be considered absent for one class. A student who arrives after 5 minutes is automatically considered to be absent. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the class. Student Conduct and Cheating: 1. Be in class on time. 2.
