Examining Whiteness Workshop UUCF Social Justice Committee Description This six-session workshop will help participants examine the impact white supremacy has on us as individuals and on society as a whole. In-depth reflection and dialogue will support participants in deepening their knowledge of systemic racism, offering each other support and accountability, and practicing the skills of interrupting racism. Using reading assignments, videos, group discussion, and structured exercises, we will explore: • The four realms of racism and change: personal, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural • The history of white supremacy in the U.S. • Racial identity development • Claiming and shaping an anti-racist identity • Developing a positive white identity • How to be an effective anti-racist ally The workshop is limited to 20 people so it can provide room for in-depth reflection, learning and dialogue as participants work to deepen their knowledge of systemic racism, offer each other support and accountability, grow beyond shame and guilt, and practice the skills of interrupting racism. Schedule Participants will meet from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at UUCF on: • April 15 • April 29 • May 6 • May 20 • June 3 • June 10 We ask that you commit to attending every session. This will be a real group effort and everyone will lose if everyone in the group is not consistently present.
