Plasma arc torches
Plasma arc torches for Plasma Reactors and Plasma
Furnaces
The plasma arc torch is a strong steel tube of any given length that encloses the essential components,
including electrodes, gas injectors, insulators, spacers, etc.
There are plasma torches to operate in transferred mode or non-transferred mode. It may be applied at
almost any angle. A hermetic seal may be applied around the steel shroud of the torch, if it is needed.
Torch uses various types of electrodes from di erent metals such as Copper (Cu), Hafnium (Hf), Tungsten
(W), etc.
The electrodes’ life time depends on a variety of factors: material of the electrode and the purity of that
material, the type of gas used, level of gas consumption, current, technological aspects of the exploitation
and other parameters and can last up to hundred hours. The plasma torches that we install in all furnaces
and reactors normally have Copper (Cu) electrodes and work on air to produce the plasma jet. Electrodes’
life in this case is up to 200-300 hours. Plasma torches with Tungsten (W) electrodes that work on Argon
(Ar) have electrodes’ life up to 500 hours.
The degree of e ciency of plasma torches has two components: electrical and thermal. Electrical degree

of e ciency of plasma torches depends on the source of power supply, and the thermal degree of
e ciency depends on the con guration of plasma torches. Its typical aggregate degree of e ciency is 6080% under non-transferred mode and with 1m torch exposed.
Gas Plasma Arc Torches of non-transferred mode
Plasma arc torches alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) with electrodes from Copper (Cu),
using of various types of gases - Air, Nitrogen (N2), Oxygen (O2), etc.

Steam Plasma Arc Torches of non-transferred mode
The new technological application of steam instead of air in plasma torches does not create additional
harmful impurity of nitrogen (N, NOx etc.) during gasi cation of various waste and simpli es the cleaning
system of output gases.

The new generation of steam plasma arc torches is direct current with power from 50kW to 200kW.
Electrodes of steam plasma arc torches are made from tungsten (cathode) and from copper (anode). All
steam plasma arc torches have an argon protection of tungsten cathode. A consumption of argon is 0.2-0.5
g/s. It is let’s to increase the lifetime of the electrodes and to raise the e ciency of steam plasma arc
torches. A weigh of plasma arc torches are from 10 to 30 kg. Electrodes lifetime is up to 200 hours.
E ciency is about 80%.

New Steam Plasma Arc Torches of transferred mode
The new generation of steam plasma arc torches is transferred mode direct current with power up
to 600kW.
The steam plasma arc torch PPT-st-600DC a length is 2140 mm and a diameter of 300 mm and a weighs
about 80 kg. It was developed for special melting furnace, for this reason has such dimensions. It has a
power up to 600 kW. The cathode are made from tungsten. The plasma torch have an argon protection of

tungsten cathode. It is let’s to increase the lifetime of the electrodes and to raise the e ciency of steam
plasma arc torches. The e ciency of the plasma torch is very high, up to 90%. The cooling in this plasma
torch is occurs using vapor, but do not using water. To do this, it is supplied with a steam generator and
super heater original design. Therefore, if it is depressurized inside the furnace, the water is not get into
the furnace and the explosion will not be!

Proposed POWER SUPPLIES for Plasma Arc Torches
Plasma arc torches of 50-75-100kW is supplied with a reliable and easy-to-use power supply PS-100DC and
plasma arc torches of 150-200kW - with PS-200DC.
Power supplies have air-cooled and an additional inductance which allows you to get a sustainable ignition
of plasma arc in the range of voltages from 100 to 600V. The control system of power supply provides a
stable arc ignition, allows to make the diagnostic of process and to identify the causes of failures. All
power supplies have a remote control.
Perhaps also delivery power supply for plasma arc torches of 300-500kW on request.
