Country:Ethiopia Committee:African Union Agenda:Refugee Migration in Sub Saharan Region Refugee crisis can refer to movements of large groups of displaced people, who could be either internally displaced persons, forced displaced people, refugees or other migrants. It can also refer to incidents in the country of origin or departure, to large problems whilst on the move or even after arrival in a safe country that involve large groups of displaced persons, asylum seekers or refugeesSub-Saharan Africa hosts more than 26 per cent of the world’s refugee population.Over 24.2 million people in this region are of concern to UNHCR.They are all victim of human rights violation.African Union has worked relentlessly to ensure firm unity among all African countries and to solve the refugee migration crisis.Ethiopia being a member of AU is working hard to solve this problem.With more than 900,000 refugees and asylum seekers,Ethiopia is home to second largest refugee population in Africa.The majority of refugees in Ethiopia come from 3 countries:South Sudan,Somalia and Eritrea.However,the Ethiopian government being aware of this horrible situation has taken some plans and steps to solve this crisis.The plans taken by them is given below: 1) 2004, a national Refugee Proclamation was enacted based on the international and regional refugee conventions to which Ethiopia is a party 2) launched the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) in Ethiopia in 2017 3) provided work permits to refugees 4) increased enrollment in primary,secondary education. 5) Brought planned amendment to the 2004 refugee proclamation. 6) the government implements an out of camp policy (OCP) 7) BIOMETRIC INFORMATION MANAGEMENT-2017 8) Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments (SSAFE) –to ensure securityof refugees. 9) Cash based interventions Ethiopia hosts nearly 740,000 refugees, mostly from Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan, the largest refugee population in a single African country. The country maintains an open-door policy that welcomes refugees and allows humanitarian access and protection. Ethiopia is planning to bring up more feasible solutions.The solutions Ethiopian Govt. is planning to do now are: 1) Expanding access to solutions including resettlement opportunities, voluntary repatriation when feasible, legal migration pathways as well as local integration. 2) Preserving and enhancing the protection environment and living conditions of refugees including access to basic services, and promotion of peaceful coexistence with local communities 3) Planning to gain more funds for refugee management. 4) Contributing to the development of a strong linkage with local/national development related interventions 5) Strengthening access to inter alia education, WASH, health and nutrition, livelihoods, participation in maket systems, energy, and to sanitary items References: 1)www.unhcr.org 2)www.un.org 3)www.wikipedia.org
