i CORRELATION BETWEEN CUTTING CLASSES AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS A Research Presented to the Faculty of Senior High School Carmen National High School-Day Class ______________________________________________________________________ In Partial Fulfilment Of the Requirements for Practical Research 2 ______________________________________________________________________ Pamela Buot Cydric Campillo Angelica Cruz Jerico de Guzman April Rose Empesto Charity Mae Gallardo October 2018 ii ABSTRACT This quantitative research study was conducted to give emphasis on the objective measurements of the correlation between cutting classes and academic performance of the fifty Grade 10 students of Carmen National High School – Day Class. The researchers used the Purposive Sampling Method in finding a suitable respondent for the study. A survey questionnaire was the main instrument used by the researchers in collecting the data. Throughout the development of the study, the researchers found out that most of the students who cut classes have an age of 16 years old and most of them were males. Few studies proved that male students tend to cut their classes more compared to female because they are exposed to play online games. Students tend to cut classes in an approximate number of 2 times in a week as supported by American scholars Duckworth & de Jung on 1989. After which the researchers concluded that peers influence the students to cut classes. About 14 % of the respondents in the study stated that their Peers influence them most to get involved with this deviant behavior. Based on the said problem, the researchers proposed to collaborate with the school administration to conduct an awareness to the students by proposing a Truancy Prevention Program to all students. This will not only focus on the students who have done cutting classes but to all students of Carmen National High School. The main objective of this program is to conduct awareness and educate the students on the negative effect of cutting classes. iii APPROVAL SHEET This thesis entitled: CORRELATION BETWEEN CUTTING CLASSES AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS prepared and submitted by ANGELICA CRUZ in partial fulfillment of the requirements for PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2 had been examined and is recommended for acceptance and approval for ORAL EXAMINATION.
