PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO ATTENDS R20 AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, left Ghana on Sunday, 26th
May 2019, to attend the R20 Austrian World Summit – an initiative which is helping regions,
countries and cities to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
and to meet the global climate protection targets outlined in the Paris Agreement.
President Akufo-Addo, who is attending the Summit in his capacity as co-Chair of the UN
Secretary General’s Group of Eminent Advocates on the 2030 SDGs, will participate in the highlevel panel discussion on the need for leadership to take responsibility in the global process on
sustainable development and international co-operation.
MORTUARY WORKERS THREATEN ANOTHER INDEFINITE STRIKE
Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana(MOWAG) has threatened to embark on another
indefinite strike soon.
The workers say its employers, Ministry of Health and other allied partners have refused to
engage them in salary negotiations, hence their decision.
Earlier this month,the association backed down a similar decision after the Fair Wages and
salary Commission invited them for negotiations.
But the Association in a release has stated it’s left with no option than to strike now until their
demands are finally met.
EXPECT HEAVY DOWNPOURS TODAY – METEO
The country will experience heavy rains this morning and afternoon [27 May 2019], Ghana
Meteorological Agency (GMA) has cautioned the public.
Per a band of clouds tracked over the ocean on Sunday, 26 May 2019, GMA noted may induce
cloudiness over the coastal cities with a chance of moderate to heavy rains Monday morning
and in the afternoon.
Recreational activities along the coast will, therefore, be disturbed following moderate to
strong winds that will accompany the rains, GMA warned.
However, towns like Aflao, Akatsi, Anloga, Ada, Tema, Accra, Saltpond and surroundings are
expected to be affected earlier but Takoradi, Axim, Half Assini and surroundings are expected
to experience the conditions later.

Outspoken musician and NPP member Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A Plus has
lashed out at revered and veteran journalists Kwame Sefa Kayi, Kweku Baako and Kwesi Pratt.
A Plus criticized the host of Peace FM’s morning show, “Kokroko” for choosing party interest
over that of the country’s alleging that the latter chided him for calling out the NPP government
after he purportedly exposed some corrupt dealings at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Kwame Sefa Kayi, he indicated was more keen to do damage control when one of the
individuals at the heart of the scandal was empaneled on his show.
OVER 15 EXPLORATION COMPANIES TO LOSE LICENCES BY THE END OF 2019
Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, has disclosed to Joy Business that at least 15 oil
exploration companies are likely to lose their operating licences by end of this year.
He explained that these companies have failed to meet the basic obligations for exploring at the
country's oil fields.
He further revealed that government has served notice these companies about their impending
fate.
Mr Amewu is also optimistic that the revocation of these exploration licences should pave way
for the government to reclaim the oil blocks for redevelopment --- or give them out to different
investors.
PASTORS WORSHIP WITH MOSLEMS AT KUKUOM CENTRAL MOSQUE
The leadership of churches at Kukuom, the capital of the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo
Region, on Sunday, May 26, 2019, made history when they joined Vice President Mahamudu
Bawumia to pray at the Kukuom Central Mosque.
Led by Most Rev John Peprah, Head Pastor of the Methodist Church and Chairman of the
Association of Churches in Kukuom, leaders of the Church of Christ, Presbyterian Church of
Ghana and Pentecost joined the Vice President after he performed the Zuhr prayers at the
Kukuom mosque as part of the 2019 edition of the nationwide Ramadan tour.
PROF. ATTAFUAH IS A FAILURE; HE MUST RESIGN AS NIA BOSS - KWABENA AGYAPONG
The morning show host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Kwabena Agyapong, has taken
Prof. Ken Attafuah, the Executive Secretary for the National Identification Authority (NIA), to
the cleaners over the challenges Ghanaians have been encountering since the mass registration
for Ghana card started in the Greater Accra region.
He has asked the professor to resign from the post because he has failed to discharge his duties
assigned to him by President Akufo-Addo.
To him, the president must appoint a new person because Prof. Attafuah has failed woefully to
manage activities at NIA.
He wondered why people who go the registration centers to register, spend hours and in some
cases days just to get them registered and issued with their Ghana cards.
CHARLOTTE OSEI APPOINTED UN INTERNATIONAL ELECTIONS COMMISSIONER
The United Nations has appointed Charlotte Osei as an International Elections Commissioner to
Afghanistan as it prepares to hold crucial presidential polls in September.
The appointment of the former EC Chair was confirmed by a Presidential Decree issued by the
President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani.
Mrs Osei is expected to join a team of other UN-appointed election experts from around the
world to provide much needed technical support, capacity building and electoral best practice
advice to the Election Complaints Commission and the Independent Electoral Commission
charged with delivering a peaceful democratic process and credible elections.
POLICE, MILITARY DEPLOYED TO CRACK DOWN ON CHEREPONI WARMONGERS
The security situation in conflict-ravaged Chereponi and Saboba remains fluid days after
security authorities called on feuding factions to cease fire.
Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has urged the factions to lay down their arms but sporadic
fighting continues, claiming lives and displacing hundreds of women and children.
Head of Joy News’ Security Desk, Gifty Andoh-Appiah, who has been to the Chereponi reports
Monday that there is uneasy calm in the North-East Region towns -- even after Chokosis and
Kokombas agreed to give peace a chance.

Former Ghana International Nii Odartey Lamptey says the decision by Ghana coach Kwesi
Appiah to name a new captain at this moment was wrong as it has distracted the team from the
task ahead.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has named Andre Ayew as the new captain of the team ahead of the
tournament with the former skipper of the side Asamoah Gyan elevated to General captain.
According to him, the focus had to be on the preparation for the tournament and not the
captaincy issue.
MAN SPENDS BIRTHDAY CLEANING CEMETERY
A private businessman, Ali Suraj, on Sunday, 26 May 2019 celebrated his 40th birthday at the
Tafo cemetery in the Old Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti region.
Mr Suraj spent the day together with his friends clearing weeds and rubbish at the cemetery.
Explaining the reason behind his action in an interview with Class News’ regional correspondent
Elisha Adarkwah, Mr Suraj said the cemetery will be his final home one day when he lives the
world and, therefore, found it appropriate to use the day to clean the place.
Mr Suraj who is also the leader of the Ashanti Regional Zongo Youth also noted that the
cemetery has been a home for his ancestors and cleaning and improving its sanitary situation
will make them rest peacefully.
