Introduction and Rationale
This document has a number of functions.
It will provide all members of the department with useful, accessible, relevant and
clear programmes of study that will aid us in planning, delivering and reviewing our
lessons and assessments throughout the academic year.
In addition, it will contain clear, useful schemes of work, tailored to the programmes
of study, which will enable all members of the department to share resources, good
practice and ideas.
All programmes of study will be divided up into units. Schemes of Work are taken
and adapted from the Edexcel website.

The schemes of work will indicate textbooks, audiovisual resources and IT
resources relevant to that particular topic and where these can be located.

The scheme of work will also identify handouts, worksheets and homework
sheets germane to that topic. Master copies of these handouts will be kept in
indexed Departmental files in BAN’s classroom B17. This will enable all
members of the department to easily locate, use and share departmental
resources.

Schemes of work will also indicate assessment, teaching and learning
objectives as well as incorporating the latest educational ideas and theories
such as critical thinking and creative learning.

Differentiated resources and assessment criteria will be indicated.

Great lesson ideas and tips will also be included which members of staff can
contribute so as to share good practice.

Cross-curricular themes and IT applications will also be indicated.
It is hoped that this document will be useful to all members of the department and will
facilitate the preparation, coordination and implementation of the curriculum across
AS/A2.
It will also be useful for supply or cover teachers covering lessons when the regular
Politics teacher is absent.
This is a working document that will be continually added to, reviewed and revised so
as to enhance the teaching and learning within the department.
This document is not prescriptive. It is designed to be a helpful guide, not
a list of compulsory lesson plans.
