PC Hardware Lab: Identify PC Components:
Description:
With a lab partner, examine your lab PC and identify the following
components, and answer questions. . Once both you and your partner have
identified all the components, change partners with another group and walk your
new partner through all the components. You will be done when everybody can
identify all the components of the PC.

What does this component
do?
Motherboard itself is a printed
circuit board that allows the CPU,
RAM, and all other computer
hardware components to
communicate with each other.
keep the CPU cool and prevent it
from overheating

Optical Drive refers to a computer
system that allows users to
use DVDs, CDs and Blu-ray optical
drives.
A hard drive is the hardware
component that stores all of your
digital content. Your documents,
pictures, music, videos, programs,
application preferences, and
operating system represent digital
content stored on a hard drive.
Manufacturer?
TOSHIBA
Motherboard Power Connectors.
One of the most important
connections in the PC is that
between the power supply and
the motherboard. It is through this
connection (or set of connections)
that the various voltages and other
signals are sent between these two
important devices.

A central processing unit
(CPU) is an important part of every
computer. The CPU sends signals
to control the other parts of the
computer, almost like how a brain
controls a body
Also called a power supply unit or
PSU, the component that supplies
power to a computer. Most
personal computers can be plugged
into standard electrical outlets.
The power supply then pulls the
required amount of electricity and
converts the AC current to DC
current.
is the physical hardware inside a
computer that temporarily stores
data, serving as the computer's
"working" memory.
Additional RAM allows a computer
to work with more information at the
same time, which usually has a
considerable effect on total system
performance.
In a computer, an adapter is often
built into a card that can be inserted
into a slot on the computer's
motherboard. The card adapts
information that is exchanged
between the computer's
microprocessor and the devices that
the card supports.

the parallel port uses a 25pin connector (type DB-25) and is
used to connect printers, computers
and other devices that need
relatively high bandwidth. It is often
called a Centronics interface after
the company that designed the
original standard
for parallel communication between
a computer and printer.
Serial ATA (SATA, abbreviated
from Serial AT Attachment) is a
computer bus interface that
connects host bus adapters to mass
storage devices such as hard disk
drives, optical drives, and solid-state
drives.
A Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a
common interface that enables
communication between devices
and a host controller such as a
personal computer (PC). It connects
peripheral devices such as digital
cameras, mice, keyboards, printers,
scanners, media devices, external
hard drives and flash drives.
