Rubidium Ms. Olaloko / Science project Julio Bracero Name of element/origin of name The name of my element is rubidium. Its atomic number is 37 and its symbol is [Rb]. The origin of its name is derived from the Latin word rubidus which means “a deep red”. Atomic mass of rubidium/number of protons, electrons, and neutron the atomic mass of rubidium is 85.4678 The number of protons in rubidium is 37 The number of neutrons in rubidium is 48 The number of electrons in rubidium is 37 Electron configuration/group/period/ valence electrons The electron configuration is 1s2 2s2p6 3s2p6d10 4s2p6 5s1 The group is 1 The period is 5 It only has 1 valence electron When was rubidium discovered/produced Rubidium was discovered in 1861 It was produced when they burned lepidolite wich contains little amounts of rubidium Who discovered/produced rubidium The 2 people who discovered rubidium are gustav kirchhoff and robert bunsen There isnt a definitive anwser but some minerals contain rubidium and they extract it these minerals are alkarb and caesium Where it can currently be made/found It can be found in these minerals lepidolites, biotites, feldspar, carnallite and caeseum I couldn’t find a way to make it 4 physical descriptions It is a soft, silverywhite metal that is a solid at room temperature 5 uses for rubidium It is used in fireworks to give a purple color It is used as a getter in vacuums It is used to manufacture photocells It is also used to manufacture a special glass It can also be used as a propellant in ion engines on a spacecraft sources https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&rlz=1CAASUJ_enUS812&biw=1366&b ih=654&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=v8ieW8mRA4eitQXAvKGICQ&q=+rubidium&oq=+rubidi um&gs_l=img.3..35i39k1j0i30k1l9.67911.67911.0.68689.1.1.0.0.0.0.71.71.1.1.0....0...1c.1. 64.img..0.1.68....0.qAd59aB3h8o#imgrc=O7YDw4HTUmDqxM: https://environmentalchemistry.com/yogi/periodic/Rb.html#Atomic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubidium https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&rlz=1CAASUJ_enUS812&ei=35SeW9 GOB4easQXPhLOIBw&q=rubidium+number+of+neutrons&oq=rubidium+num&gs_l= psyab.1.0.0i203k1l2j0i22i30k1l8.216781.218318.0.219923.4.4.0.0.0.0.101.285.3j1.4.0....0...1c. 1.64.psy-ab..0.4.282....0.GmCaA74nr38 Sources 2/2 https://www.google.com/search?q=who+discovered+rubidium&safe=activ e&rlz=1CAASUJ_enUS812&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUK EwiF87DQu8DdAhVGfH0KHd42CkgQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=654#imgrc=k 5vN4x1igYjDkM:
