19 – 20 February 2019 The Nile Ritz-Carlton Cairo Egypt Investment, technology and development for the MENA solar energy sector Co-Located with @SolarShowMENA #SolarShow www.terrapinn.com/solarmena/book Official Government Partner Strategic Partner Created by Our story “This is the renewable energy event Egypt and the MENA region has been waiting for.” Eng. Eman Rashad Saeed | General Manager for Renewable Private Power Projects | Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) According to the International Energy Agency, by 2021 renewable capacity in the MENA region will grow by 78%, led by Egypt, the UAE and Morocco. The market is rapidly maturing and the cost of production diminishing with the PV pipeline in 2018 amounting to almost 12 GW. There are also 4.9 GW of large solar projects under construction, including 1.8 GW in Egypt and nearly a gigawatt combined in Jordan and Morocco. Over the next three to five years, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Egypt plans to add 51.3 GW to current installed capacity. This is where The Solar Show MENA comes in. The Solar Show MENA, which is co-located with The Wind Show MENA and The Energy Storage Show MENA, is the renewable energy event the region has been waiting for and will help to shape the energy market through sharing knowledge, educating the market and facilitating influential meetings. Bringing together 1000 stakeholders, including leading policymakers, utilities, local industry heavyweights and international technology experts plus a buzzing exhibition, there is simply no better place for you to connect with the industry. In partnership with the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF), our mission is to create a forum that is the industry meeting place. The Solar Show MENA is where industry professionals come and learn how to develop sustainable, clean and bankable world class energy generation projects throughout the region. Solar power looms large in the future of the MENA region and The Solar Show MENA is the regional forum you have been waiting for. The MENA solar sector is open for business, are you? To book, visit www.terrapinn.com/solarmena/book Market opportunity “The MENA solar opportunity is enormous; this is the industry platform to progress the actions already happening.” Dr. Ahmad Badr | Executive Director | Regional Central for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) EGYPT JORDAN KSA OMAN UAE The International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, has recently approved a $660 million financing for the construction of 500 MW of solar power plants at the 1.8 GW Benban solar complex in Aswan, southern Egypt. A 2000 MW target for private sector generation with a new feed-in tariff has also been announced. Jordan has set a target of installing 600 MW of solar PV capacity by 2020 to reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels, which would make up 10% of the energy mix. REDPO part of the Ministry of Energy, Industry & Mineral Resources, has set an initial target of generating 9.5 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2023. Oman is investing some $2 billion in solar energy production along with Swiss and Middle Eastern partners to generate approximately 400 MW. Oman is also building the world’s largest solar steam producing plant, Miraah, next to the Amal West oilfield. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has increased its commitment to clean energy development by tripling its target for 2030, announcing it will source 25% of its energy from renewable sources, mostly solar. Target 3.5 GW of solar capacity by 2027 Target 1.8 GW in renewables target by 2020 Target 9.5 GW in renewables by 2023 Target 2.65 GW renewable target by 2024 Target 9.5GW of renewable energy capacity by 2023 MOROCCO ALGERIA TUNISIA KUWAIT BAHRAIN Morocco has launched one of the world’s largest solar energy projects costing an estimated $9 billion. The aim of the project is to generate 2,000 megawatts of solar generation capacity by the year 2020. Five solar power stations are to be constructed. Algeria plans to invite bids for construction of three photovoltaic solar power plants with total capacity of about 4,000 MW. Algeria has set a long-term target to have 13,500 MW of solar PV power capacity by 2030. The tender is the first in a series planned by the Tunisian government to install around 1 GW of renewable energy capacity in the period 2017-2020. Tunisia aims at achieving 4.7 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. According to the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW), by 2030, Kuwait’s energy demand will triple, posing a challenge to the energy generation sector’s capacity. In order to diversify, Kuwait set a renewable energy goal to increase share of renewable generation to 15% by 2030. In October 2016, the Bahrain Government endorsed Bahrain’s National Plan for Energy Efficiency which seeks a 6% national electrical energy efficiency by year 2025. It also calls for a 5% contribution from renewable energies by the year 2025, rising further to 10% by the year 2035. Target 11 GW of renewable energy by 2030 Target 13.5 GW in solar PV by 2030 Target 4.7 GW in renewable capability by 2030 Target 2 GW renewable energy by 2030 Book your conference pass today. The key prerequisites for energy storage growth are increasingly materialising in the MENA region. As demand is growing and competitiveness is improving, authorities and the private sector are increasingly acknowledging the benefits energy storage can bring and offering frameworks for bankable and fair access to the energy market. “The Solar Show MENA is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest technologies in Solar Energy and to meet Developers and Manufacturers.” Eng. Suhaila Maraf | Director, Department of Studies and Research | Kuwait Ministry of Electricity and Water For governments across MENA, the emergence of an energy storage market opens up a new set of decisions about how best to generate and distribute electricity. Energy storage capacity is expected to grow and costs are decreasing - Bloomberg New Energy Finance expects battery technology to fall to $120 per kWh by 2030, from $1,000 in 2010.
