Marius and Sulla
A civil war between Gaius Marius and Sulla. Marius disagreed with the laws Sullas was creating
and banned/exiled him and took command. This revolution caused a civil war between the two
with SUllas coming out victorious.
1st Triumvirate
This was an alliance created between Marcus Licinius Crassus(Richest Man in Rome), Julius
Caesar(Politician and Military Leader), and Gnaeus Pompey(Pompey the Great). formed in 60
BCE, and lasted until 53 BCE.
Caesar vs Pompey
Both Caesar and Pompey were power hungry for ht leadership of roman resulting in an obvious
conflict. Both fought strong but Caesar came out victorious and Pompey fled and eventually was
assassinated.
Ides of March
The Ides of March is basically the date which the assassination of Julius Caesar occured on the
Roman Calendar. This is March 15th hence the Ides of March.
2nd Triumvirate
Like the 1st Triumvirate it was an alliance but this time between three people which are
Octavian, Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, and Mark and Mark Anthony.
Battle of Actium (31 B.C.)
This was a naval fight involving General Mark Anthony and Octavian. I took place on the Ionian
Sea near Actium hence the name. It was the Deciding confrontation of the Final War of Roman
Republic marking the start of the Roman Empire.
