The curriculum of 2013 adapted three different dimension for teachers to give assessments in students’ performance which are: attitude, knowledge, and skills. Therefore, related to the subject of English, the curriculum clearly stated in the basic competence and core competency that when students are learning English in their high school, they are expected to perform well in the four skills of English which are: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The 10th grade students of XYZ high school in Ambon have learned about recount text during their junior high school years. So it can be assumed that they have gained the knowledge of writing a recount text. If there are anything that they forgot, the curriculum guide stated pretty clear that the teacher’s role in class is only as a guide and not as the source of knowledge. The XYZ high school in ambon is a very student centered – Christ centered educational institution. Ideally, the students would build their own knowledge and the teacher would guide them to the right building and foundation of the knowledge. However, what was found during the internship by the student teacher was not like the expectations above. The students in XYZ high school in ambon lacked of vocabularies and their writing skills is not as expected. Students performed not really good during the wiriting activities. For a free writing assignment, the rubric should be pretty simple since what was graded only the ideas organization and subject-verb agreement. But the result of students’ wiriting is nowhere near the standard. Students organize their writing ideas randomly and 81% of the students did not do well in putting the subject-verb agreement in their sentences. The student teacher also did not do well in his teaching. Student teacher have tried various teaching methods and approaches in language classroom but did not seem to work. The students felt bored during the learning process because the teacher’s performance. It can be seen that there is a huge gap between the expected performace and reality given in above statements.
