Station 1
 Add a small scoopful of sodium chloride into
a half-full 100 mL beaker of water. Stir the
contents of the beaker for approximately
one minute
 Record your observations in your lab sheet.
 When you are finished, you may pour this
solution down the sink drain and rinse.
Station 2
 Observe the milk, observe the vinegar.
 In the container, add 1/4 cup of milk and 1⁄2 teaspoon
of vinegar
 Take turns mixing for least 4-5 minutes
 Pour it back and forth using in the strainer from one
container to another. Once you have a softened
substance, place it on the paper towel to dry.
 Record your observations. Be sure to write exactly what
you observed. (Think Aloud in Your Mind...what
properties of matter changed...size, shape, color, etc?
What changed about it? Be specific)
Station 3
 Observe the sugar, water and the yeast.
 In the container, add 1⁄2 spoonful of yeast and 1
spoonful of sugar to 1⁄4 cup of hot water.
 Let it sit for at least 3 -5 minutes
 Record your observations. Be sure to write
exactly what you observed.
Station 4
 Fill a 100 mL beaker about half way with
acetone.
 Slowly add 2-3 pieces of Styrofoam to the
beaker.
 After you have observed a change, record
your observations in your lab sheet.
 Clean up by pouring the contents of your
beaker into the acetone waste beaker.
Station 5
 Observe the apple.
 Carefully slice one piece.
 Let it sit on the plate for a few minute (until you
notice changes)
 Record your observations. Be sure to write
exactly what you observed. (Think Aloud In Your
Mind...what properties of matter changed...size,
shape, color, etc? What changed about it? Be
specific)
Station 6
 Use a scoopula to add a small sample of
sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda)
to a test tube.
 Add 5mL of vinegar and touch the bottom of
the test tube with your hand.
 Record your observations in your lab sheet.
 Clean up by rinsing the contents down the
sink with plenty of water.
Station 7
 Pour 5 mL of hydrogen peroxide into a
beaker.
 Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda.
 Stir the mixture.
 Observe and record the reaction.
 Throw the contents away (not the cup).
