The Separation of Church and Faith How did We Get FROM THERE: SCRIPTURE? To here: church traditions? 3. Starting Points Romans 1:1-16 “the Gospel … which He promised beforehand through His Prophets … is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Isaiah 52:7 “How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of him who brings the Gospel of Shalom; announcing the Gospel of joy, announcing Y'shuah and saying to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” #1319 בָּ ַׂשרba-sar’ … good news, glad tidings, gospel LXX uses G#2097 εὐαγγελίζω yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo … quoted in: Apostolic Writings Ro 5:19 “by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” Jer 23:6; 33:15-16 … ‘The LORD is Our Righteousness’ Ro 6:16…19 “obedience to righteousness … resulting in sanctification” Ro 7:6…12 “The Law is holy…we serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter” Ro 8:4…14 “…walk according to the Spirit … For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Ro 8:16-25 “… fellow heirs provided we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together … … the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. … we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this Hope we were saved. Romans 8:35 Paul has suffered these things: according to God’s purpose… Sufferings do not mean God has separated us from His love Israel has also suffered … ACCORDING TO GOD’S PURPOSE Romans 8:36-37 Quotes Psalm 44:22 But for Your Sake we are killed all day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. You have made us like sheep for slaughter; And have scattered us among the nations… A scorn and a derision ... A shaking of the head among the peoples… But we have not forgotten You; Nor have we dealt falsely with Your Covenant. Our heart has not turned back; Nor have our steps departed from Your Way; If we had forgotten the Name of our God … YET FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER… 22 Arise! Do not cast us off forever! Arise for our help; And redeem us for the Sake of Your Khessed… … חֵ סֵ ד Heb 11:32-40 … were tortured, refusing to accept release, SO THAT THEY MIGHT RISE AGAIN TO A BETTER LIFE .. . And all these, having a good witness through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, THAT APART FROM US THEY SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETE” Col 1:24-27 “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh, I am filling up what is lacking in Messiah's afflictions for the sake of His body, that is, the Ecclesia, Kahal, Assembly” The Glory: that they might rise again to a better life The Witness: is not complete without the faithful of all time The Atonement: IS COMPLETE, and the ‘body of Christ’ believers are called, chosen, elected to the cost of declaring the Gospel … having a good witness – through their faith Rev 20:4-6 “… I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the WITNESS of Jesus and for the Word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Messiah for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Messiah, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.” Ro 9:4-5 Israel’s Blessed Status in God’s Election: “the adoption as sons and the glory” Hosea 1:10 “Yet the number of the children of Israel; Shall be as the sand of the sea ... In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ - עַׂ ִּמי- …ל ֹאLo-Amee It shall be said to them ‘Children of The Living God!’” Ro 9:6-13 THE WORD OF GOD HAS NOT FAILED … Always been a remnant Gen 21:12 “ through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” Gen 25:23 “And the older will serve the younger” Malachi 1:2-3 “I have loved you,” says the LORD. But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’ “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the LORD. “Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his nakhalah to the tanot of the wilderness.” …. vs. “the adoption as sons, and the Glory” Ro 9:14-18 God is Sovereign, God is Just, God’s Election is Grace Ex 33:19 “… I will proclaim The Name of יְהוָּהYHVH before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Ex 9:16 in you “… for this purpose, I have raised you up, that I may show My power and that My Name may be declared in all the earth.” Ex 4:21 God hardened Pharaoh’s heart - חָּ זַׂק- #2388 kha-zak’ before Moses stood before him Note: same principle, judgment due: John 12:39-40 “He has blinded their eyes…hardened their hearts” Quote Isa 6:10 A "Make the heart of this people dull, B and make their ears deaf, C and their eyes dim; C1 lest they see with their eyes, B1 and hear with their ears, A1 and understand with their heart, and return, and be healed." Isa 6:13 Although there’s a judgment due, there will be a REMNANT But, like the strong and the oak that leave stumps… so the holy seed will be the stump in the Land Romans 9:19-29 If it is God Who reveals and hardens, how can He condemn? … “on the contrary, who are you!?” Job 38:4 “Where were you …?” Ro 9:24-27 quotes Hosea 2:23 “Then I will sow her unto Me in the Land, And I will have ra-kham on Lo-Rukhamah – compassion, mercy Then I will say to Lo-Ammi, ‘You are Ami!’” – My People NOTE: Paul’s ‘midrash’ uses Lo-Ami - “a people who are not My people” – Within the CONTEXT of Hosea, and Moses, to EXTEND to the nations – Gen 12:3 “ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH WILL BE BLESSED” Gen 35:11 “A nation and a Kahal, Ek-klay-see-a, of nations WILL COME FROM YOU” The mercy poured out on unfaithful Israel is ALSO extended to the pagan nations The Text is NOT prophesying about REPLACING Israel with a ‘gentile Assembly’ Ro 9:24-27 quotes Hos 1:10 referencing Gen 22 ‘Yet the number of the sons of Israel Will be like the sand of the sea … where it is said to them, “Lo-Ami,” It will be said to them, “You are the sons of the Living God.”’ … And they will ascend forth on the Land, For great will be the Day of God’s Sowing Word-play: Day of Israel - יֹום יִּזְ ְרעֶ אלYom Yi-zre-ale יֹום י ְִּש ָּראֵ לYom Yi-sra-ale Ro 9:27b quotes Isaiah 10:22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, the remnant will come returning … … ְשאָּ ר יָּשּוב בֹו כִּ יָּלָּ יֹוKhilyone decreed shall overflow with Righteousness! - צְ ָּד ָּקהTzedakah The destruction – Will ‘overflow with Righteousness’ – Will ‘the clay’ question the Potter? Ro 9:33 combines Isa 28:16 and Isa 8:13-14 Israel’s temporary unfaithfulness is built into the system “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation … Whoever believes will not panic.” “The LORD of Hosts … He will be a Mikdash … But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense” #4720 ִּמ ְק ָּדש Mikdash, holy place, temple, asylum (Latin: sanctuary) Rev 21:22 “the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its Ro 10:4 “For Messiah is the goal of the Law, for righteousness to everyone who believes” G#5056 τέλος tel'-os goal … without Messiah: Ro 9:31 “Pursuing the Law for righteousness” Israel did not arrive at goal of the Torah Jeremiah 31:10 ‘Hear the Word of the Lord, you nations … declare it … and say: “He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.” Romans 11… Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the gentiles, how much more will their FULL INCLUSION mean! … a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the FULL INCLUSION of the gentiles has come in. Romans 11 … And in this way, all Israel will be saved, as it is written, ( Isaiah 59:20 ) “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will banish ungodliness from Jacob”; “and this will be My Covenant with them when I take away their sins.” Romans 11 As regards the Gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
