under Deng Xiaoping, but
politically freedom of speech
is nonexistent.
• June 4th Massacre occurred
after weeks of peaceful
protest.

democracy and freedom after
the death of Hu Yaobang.
• Chinese gov’t denies the level
death and violence, and
suppresses anyone that
mentions the protests.
