WattStopper® Wireless Exterior Lighting Controls
Combined with LED Upgrades Cut Energy Use by 86%
Electro-Matic chose WattStopper for system upgrade at Michigan auto dealership
The recent upgrade to new LED lighting and a WattStopper control system at Milosch’s Palace in Lake
Orion, Michigan not only improved the appearance of the long-established auto dealership and its cars
for sale, it also increased security and resulted in a dramatic reduction in energy use. The project was
designed by Michigan-based LED specialist Electro-Matic Visual Products, chosen by the customer for
their exceptional products, technical solutions and recommendations.
PROJECT GOALS
Business owner Mark Milosch wanted to efficiently and cost-effectively replace dated and
defective lighting, with the primary goal of increasing light levels throughout the auto
dealership for improved product safety and display. This included updates to 121 existing
metal halide parking lot lights, flood lights, canopy and soffit cans with energy-efficient
LED lights while retaining the expensive lighting poles and wiring infrastructure.
Electro-Matic performed a photometric analysis of the existing system and developed a
new outdoor lighting plan. But they didn’t stop there. In addition to the lighting upgrade,
Electro-Matic demonstrated that by adding WattStopper Wireless Exterior Lighting Controls,
they could increase safety and maximize the customer’s energy savings.
IMPROVED SECURITY
With the outdoor LED lighting and controls plan in place, Electro-Matic repurposed the
existing electrical poles and adapters without any business interruptions. WattStopper
Wireless Exterior Lighting Controls were programmed to dim the new lighting to 50% lumen
output every night at midnight to save energy overnight. For safety and security, strategically
located motion sensors immediately bring the lighting level back up to 100% if anyone walks
or drives onto the lot after hours. The customer is alerted of movement, and can log-in to
security cameras to view activity directly.
