HALL LAYOUT Low Support: Uni, Tafe, Employment Community Services Community Services Respite EXPO 2006 – Directory Low Support This Directory of services was compiled following the Sixth Annual Transition EXPO for people with disabilities held at Sutherland Inclusion in this directory Entertainment Centre. Expo 2006 will be held at Hurstville Entertainment Centre (20/6/06). The Directory provides information about services for people with disabilities in the Sydney Region, which comprises Sutherland and St. George local areas, the inner west, eastern suburbs and neighbouring areas such as Bankstown. Many providers were present at the EXPO, however many other service providers in our community are included in the Directory. High Support High Support: ADHC Post School Program Leisure and Recreation The Support Teachers Transition in the Sydney Region, who support the Sutherland and St. George local areas, assist students with disabilities, in their final years of school, with their “School to Work Planning”. A major part of this program is for the students to prepare for and attend this Transition Careers EXPO. The EXPO provides opportunities for these students to access career and vocational pathways, and to access Government, leisure, recreational and respite services. This EXPO also targets adults in the community who have disabilities, by providing opportunities to access a broader range of services. The preparation for and the organisation of the EXPO are integral roles of the Support Teachers Transition, as part of the Working Committee. We would like to acknowledge the following, for their support of this EXPO: Department of Education and Training Sylvanvale Handicapped Children’s Centre Sutherland Shire Council Hurstville Council The NESB Access Project Sutherland Shire Learning Difficulties Support Group (Representative) DEC GENERAL: ADHC, Centrelink, Quantum . TAFE Colleges UNIVERSITIES Every University has a support person available to discuss individual needs of students and assist with planning and goal setting. Two websites are available with up-to-date information and your NDCO (bottom of page) can also assist. For contact details and names of departments only, www.adcet.edu.au/Uni_Disability_Advisers.chpx Current information including names can be found at http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/disability-contacts.pdf It is recommended that students make contact with this person early, to facilitate a smooth transition to the new learning environment. Everybody has a disability at some time (allergies, diseases, flu) which may impact temporarily or permanently. Students need to address the effect of their disability in order to maximise learning. Benefits may be available such as extra points, your NDCO can also assist with these links.
