Through the Teledyne Cormon product line,
Teledyne Oil & Gas provides engineered
packages and applications expertise for
monitoring of corrosion and erosion, pressure
and temperature, serving principally the oil
and gas industry. The company’s innovative
asset integrity monitoring products and
related services accelerate production, reduce
operating risks and costs, and extend asset
life for operators and processors worldwide,
both subsea and topside.
www.teledyneoilandgas.com
Teledyne Cormon, a product line of Teledyne Oil
& Gas, was founded in the UK in 1984 to design
and supply corrosion monitoring equipment.
The company was acquired in 2008 by Teledyne
Technologies Inc., a $1.9bn corporation with
approximately 10,000 employees worldwide. Teledyne
Technologies Inc. provides sophisticated electronic
subsystems and instrumentation, including aerospace
and defense electronics, digital imaging products
and software, monitoring instrumentation for marine
and environmental applications, harsh environment
interconnect products, and subsystems for satellite
communications, as well as engineered systems
for defense, space, environmental and nuclear
applications. Teledyne Oil & Gas is a market-focused
group of companies and is a global organization with
service and test centers around the world — Houston,
Aberdeen, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore — and
now meets ever more demanding customer needs
for monitoring and asset management of topside
process facilities and subsea oil and gas infrastructure.
A team of 45+ cross-trained, multi-lingual field
service technicians remain ready 24/7 for routine
and emergency deployments anywhere Teledyne
products are being used.
Teledyne Cormon is at the forefront of corrosion and
erosion monitoring technology for the oilfield with
more than 10,000 topside probes, 200 subsea probes,
and 30 subsea corrosion monitoring spools installed
around the globe. Teledyne Cormon works with some
of the world’s most prestigious oil companies and
on some of the most demanding projects from the
subsea wellhead, Xmas Tree, and Manifold through
flowlines and pipelines to refineries and other critical
topside processing plants.
Core Market and Industry Challenges
Topsides Products and Solutions
Subsea Products and Solutions
Corrosion and erosion is a major concern for the oil and gas industry. Research1 shows that the annual cost of managing and
mitigating the effects of corrosion in the industry in the United States alone is estimated to be $1.4bn. Failure to control corrosion and
erosion effectively can lead to premature equipment failure, lost production, environmental damage and worse. Teledyne Cormon’s
monitoring solutions form an integral part of an effective corrosion management strategy, enabling operators to monitor the
effectiveness and optimize usage of corrosion inhibitors, extending asset lifetimes and reducing operating risk.
Teledyne Cormon is one of the world’s leading providers
of corrosion and erosion monitoring solutions for topside
process (topsides) applications. World-class techniques permit
a wide range of sensor configurations to deliver performance
appropriate to the application, including highly responsive
sensors for the detection of short-term events and long life/
severe service sensors to meet the demands of aggressive
process applications. Typical applications include:
Teledyne Cormon products for subsea monitoring cover both
intrusive probe applications for pressure, temperature, erosion
& corrosion (PTEC) monitoring on subsea trees and manifolds
and inline spool-based pipeline corrosion monitoring
systems based on metal loss measurement (RPCM™). Offering
unprecedented levels of sensitivity and
reliability, these sensors are increasingly
being adopted for some of the world’s
largest and most challenging deepwater
projects. Options for fully dual-redundant sensors
and electronics, coupled with ROV-retrievable pods, lead to
the highest possible reliability.
Advanced Monitoring
Technologies
Teledyne Cormon’s core products are
based on the CEION® state-of-the-art
metal loss technology.
An advanced development of the
original Electrical Resistance (ER)
Ratiometric Method, this technique measures
changes in current density due to material loss. When applied
to a sample and reference array in the form of a probe or
sensor, the instrumentation provides a signal-conditioned,
calibrated output for:
CEION® Sensor
Element
• Corrosion and pitting monitors
• Sand erosion monitors
• Pipeline corrosion monitoring
• Chemical optimization
The resolution of the CEION® technology is such that metal
losses of just a few nanometres can be measured; this
translates into industry-leading response times to process
upsets and corrosion events.
Teledyne Cormon incorporates CEION® technology in the
following monitoring products:
• ER (Electrical Resistance) probes for corrosion and sand
erosion
• RPCM (Ring-Pair Corrosion Monitor) for full
circumferential monitoring of corrosion in subsea
flowlines and pipelines
opportunity to collaborate
with companies to develop
custom products that address
specific project requirements
and new industry challenges.
More specialized techniques
such as Linear Polarisation
Resistance (LPR) and Electrical
Impedance Spectroscopy
(EIS) are also available.

Typical configurations include ER and class-leading
CEION® probes for mounting in industry-standard highpressure access fittings and retractable low-pressure systems.
Monitoring systems are installed, commissioned, and serviced
online by specialist teams of Teledyne Cormon technicians.
Teledyne can provide solutions from a single probe to a fully
integrated monitoring systems.
The mainstay of most process corrosion monitoring systems
is the weight loss coupon, either as a backup to other
methods or, in their own right, where conditions are not
as dynamic as to require proactive management. Teledyne
Cormon can supply a full range of cleaned, weighed, and
packed coupons together with holders and mounting
kits for all types of process monitoring applications. These
include types suitable for online removal and replacement.
Cleaning, weighing, and reporting services are available
from the Field Service group. Multi-stud biofilm sampling
devices are used to collect samples of biofilm forming on steel
surfaces. They are supplied in forms compatible with on-line
access systems. Tests kits or testing services are also available.

High-pressure retrieval services for weight loss coupons as
well as biofilm samples and corrosion/erosion probes are
performed by Teledyne engineers on topside and offshore
floating and fixed production assets owned by major
operating companies. Rigorous training and demanding
safety standards are routine for company operatives. Field
Service teams also collect field data, maintain instrumentation,
and manage spare part stocks.
As part of the comprehensive job reporting process, the group
can perform laboratory analysis on coupons and samples as
well as follow up with testing and evaluation.
