Report missing or damaged parts immediately to have them replaced. SELECTING A SUITABLE SITE Carefully select the site for your new pool. This is the most important decision you will have to make to ensure the safety and success of your pools construction. An incorrect site could cause problems in the future that may cause injury, death or financial loss. Read carefully the check list set out below when selecting your site. Acceptable: Flat, level, firm and dry ground with easy access to all sides of the pool Exposed to direct sunlight, preferably in the morning Safe access to electricity for running the filter pump and other pool accessories Access to mains water source Protection from wind Not acceptable: Sloping ground Concrete, Asphalt, Sandy, Gravel and Swampy ground Close to wooden construction e.g. Pergola’s and decking Next to deciduous or leafy trees Over-head wires and clothes line Drains, electric wires or gas pipelines underneath the site Loping ground Poor or little drainage or high flood risk locations High wind conditions Tools Required: • Phillips head screw driver • Small Shifter • Clothes Pegs • Sprit Level • Sharp Knife • Site excavation tools • Protective Gloves 4 POOL SET UP MARKING THE SITE 1. Mark the centre of the site and drive a stake or screw driver into the soil. (See diagram 1) 2. Tie a piece of string onto the stick. At the other end of the string, tie a funnel. The distance between the stick and the funnel should be 15cm more than the radius of the pool (See diagram 2) 3. Place flour, chalk dust or lime into the funnel and draw a circle around the stake. 2. If the pool diameter is 500cm, then the circle should be 530cm in diameter. (See diagram 3) (Diagram 1) 15 cm 50 0 cm (Diagram 2) 530 cm (Diagram 3) 5 LEVELING THE AREA Warning! Levelling is extremely important: take as much time as possible to work out a site that is completely firm and levelled. Use a carpenter’s level and straight edge to ensure that the site is completely level, flat and firm! (See diagram 4) The pool contains a huge amount of water and thousands of kilos of weight. Should the pool collapse due to unlevelled ground, it could cause a lot of damage to property and even human injury or death! Remove the higher ground rather than filling the low laying ground (see diagram 5) Attention! Always remove grass and stones within the circle. If clearing Kutch, Kukua grass, use the ground cover provided to ensure that the grass doesn’t penetrate the pool liner and cause damage. (Diagram 4) Remove high spots Do not fill low spots (Diagram 5) Spread a light layer of fine brick layers sand over the foundation area. Level this layer evenly. (See diagram (Diagram 6) 6 ASSEMBLING THE POOL BASE RAILS Place the base metal pieces equally around the circle line drawn in Step 3, slide the bottom rail into the metal piece. The base metal piece should now be placed in the middle of the bottom rail. Do the same for all 12 bottom rails. (See diagram 7) (Diagram 7) Connect all the bottom rails together with a small connector piece. It is important to leave about an 1cm gap between 2 ends of the bottom rail at the small connector piece. (See diagram 8). (Diagram 8) This is for fine adjustment of the diameter of the bottom rails. When all the rails are connected, it should form a perfect circle and the diameter should be equivalent to the diameter of the pool itself. You can shorten or lengthen the gap distance at the small connector piece in order to form a perfect circle. (See diagram 9) (Diagram 9) 7 FIXING THE POOL WALL Put the pool wall on a ground cloth, cardboard or a piece of ply wood (see diagram 10). This is to protect the levelled ground while installation of pool wall is taking place. Make sure the square window (for skimmer) is on the upward side. ( It is advisable to wear protective gloves when handling the metal wall). (Diagram 10) (Diagram 11) You should decide where the skimmer and filtration system should be placed. The opening end of the pool wall closest to the square window should be placed on the closest metal piece to your selected location for the electic supply of the filtration system. The pool wall end should be resting in the centre of the base metal piece (See diagram 11). Make sure that this location is not in a windward position. Square window should be in the upward position. (Diagram 12) (Diagram 13) (Diagram 14) Then uncoil the whole pool wall onto the ground rail. Join the 2 ends of the pool wall together. Line up the screw holes. If you could not line up the holes, then adjust the gap distance of the small connectors again or cut away the excessive part of the bottom rail. (See diagram 12, 13) 8 Place the screw heads through the inside of the pool. Nuts should be on the outside of the pool wall. (See diagram 14). Only hand tighten the bolts at this point. Check to see if the pool wall is level. This can be achieved by placing a length of rigid timber or similar across the diameter of the pool and placing the builders level on the top. (See diagram 15) (Diagram 15) (Diagram 16) If the deviation is more than 2 cm (see diagram 16), then the ground site must be levelled again. Warning! A pool that is not level is very dangerous and may collapse at anytime. Check also if the pool wall is round and measure the diameter across a few spots to make sure the differences of diameter measured are within 2cm. Cover the screw heads with the thick PVC band (See diagram 17, 18) (Diagram 17) You can also use tape to seal the screw heads. 9 (Diagram 18) MAKING A PROTECTIVE CUSHION COVE AT THE FOOT OF THE INNER POOL WALL To protect the liner against the sharp edges of the metal rail and pool wall, it is recommended to build a protective covering made of fine brick sand at the foot of the pool wall. (See diagram 19, 20).The size should be 15cm H x 15cm W so that it completely seals the rail but doesn’t distort the pool liner. (Diagram 19) Pool Liner Seam is centred in the middle of the sand cove Pool Wall Base Rail Sand Cove (Diagram 20) Sand Cove 15 cm 15 cm 10 FITTING THE PVC POOL LINER Fit the PVC liner on a warm and sunny day, preferably above 22 ˚C. Unfold the PVC liner and put it in the sun for 2 hours. This helps to soften the PVC. If the temperature is below 16˚C, the PVC liner will be hard and rigid and quite difficult to handle. Put the liner at the centre of the pool site inside the pool wall. Extend it evenly until the seam line reaches the base of the pool where the protective sand cover is. Smooth out all the wrinkles in the liner. Straighten the PVC liner and hold it perpendicular to the ground. Drape the pool liner over the pool wall. There should be an overlap of 8cm of the pool wall height (See diagram 21,22) Hold the overlap in place with clothes pegs. (Diagram 21) (Diagram 22) 8 cm Check if the pool liner is placed evenly around the perimeter. Evenly fold the excessive length of the PVC if you find it a bit loose. Check if the overlap is uniform. If the pool liner is a slightly short, then you will have to let it down and vice versa. Fill the pool with 3cm of water to smooth out the liner against the pool wall. Check to see if water is level, if not, something is wrong and you will have to dismantle the liner and pool wall to access and level the ground area. Remove the pegs one at a time whilst applying the top rails. Please note that the top rails do not need to be joined together with small connectors like the bottom rails (see diagram 23). Trim the excess off the last top rail once the perimeter is completed. (Diagram 23) Do not cut the excess overlap off the pool liner wall. Neatly tape it to the top rail. If you cut the overlap, it will make the next pool installation difficult. 11 INSTALLING THE TOP METAL PIECE Hook the top metal piece over the top of the rail (see diagram 24) The first metal piece should be placed on top of and in the middle of the pool wall join. (Diagram 24) (Diagram 25) Make sure that the top metal piece is directly aboveing the bottom metal piece (see diagram 25) Adjust the distance between the two metal pieces if necessary to accommodate the top platforms. Make sure that you place the longer side of the top platform facing out and the shorter side facing inside the pool. Once you have fixed all the platforms into position, the trace of pool liner should be hidden. Line up the screw holes and lightly fasten with the screws provided. (See diagram 26). (Diagram 26) Fix all 12 top rails to the top metal pieces and make sure they are all sitting properly before finally tightening the screws 12 FIXING THE VERTICAL SUPPORTS Line up all the screw holes for the vertical supports. The first vertical support should be placed over the join in the pool wall. (See diagram 27, 28) (Diagram 27) (Diagram 28) Fix the vertical support onto the metal pieces. Line up the screw holes and check if the vertical sections are in line. Once all vertical supports are in place and straight, fix the vertical supports with screws provided. FIXING THE JOIN PROTECTORS The soft flexi joint covers are for sealing the edges of the top rails. Hook the cover over the outside edge of the top rail and pull to fasten the cover to the inside edge. (See diagram 29, 30). (Diagram 29) 13 (Diagram 30) FIXING THE LEAF SKIMMER Unpack your skimmer box from the carton. Carefully read the POOL LEAF SKIMMER instruction manual before you start to mount the skimmer box onto the pool wall. Mark the position of the hole with a cross shaped cut in the centre of the opening. Allow for a little over-hang around the edge. Attach the Skimmer Box and the Inlet and Outlet hose connectors. Use a sharp knife to trim off the remaining liner from the inside of the skimmer box and Inlet and outlet openings (See diagram 31A, 31B) (Diagram 31A) (Diagram 31B) WARNING! Cutting more than necessary will damage and void the pool liner, so please do it with extra care. Follow the installation instruction manual of the skimmer Box to install the skimmer box to the pool wall. Carefully trim off any protruding part of the liner within inside the connections after installation. Caution! Do not damage any part of the inside of the Skimmer box and Inlet and Outlet connections with the knife. FILLING THE POOL WITH WATER Before you fill the pool with water, thouroghly check to see if there are any loose screws, holes or tears in the liner. Fill the pool until it is half way acroos the skimmer box openeing or to the maximum water level or a minimum of 15c from the top of the pool wall (see diagram 32) to make sure water is entering the skimmer box opening. WARNING! To avoid collapse, never leave the pool without water in it. (Diagram 32) Warning! The Filter Pump must be switched off if there are swimmers inside the pool! Follow assembly instructions for the professional Sand Filter Pump Combo. 14 POOL MAINTENANCE 1. Always keep your pool clean and apply the correct pool chemicals. Unsanitary water is a serious health hazard. 2. Maintain pool pH level between 7.2 to 7.6 3. Ask your dealers advise first if you want to modify your filtration system. 4. Clean the PVC liner regularly with non-abrasive brushes or venturi vacuum cleaner. 5. Turn your filtration system on at least one day before using the pool. Allow enough time to ensure the pool water is completely filtrated before use. 6. Make sure the water level is 15 cm from the top. GENERAL WATER SAFETY SUPERVISE CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES AROUND WATER. ENSURE YOU HAVE A POOL FENCE THAT IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED AND FUNCTIONING. LEARN CPR AND KEEP IN PRACTICE. Read this as often as you can before you use the pool with your children! Your children’s safety depends on you! Accidents don’t just happen to other people, they may happen to your children if they are not closely and constantly watched over. Prepare yourself mentally for any situation that may occure so you are able to offer adaquet aid and assistance. Child supervision should be close and constant. Name only one safety supervisor. Reinforce supervision when there are several users in the swimming pool. Have personel flotation aids available (for people who cannot swim). Teach your children to swim as early as possible. Wet your neck, arms and legs before you enter the water. Make sure you are trained in life-saving techniques, especially those for children. Forbid young children from diving or jumping into the pool. Forbid races and rough play in the pool. Do not allow children who are unable to swim, to enter the pool without swim vest or armbands, and without adult supervision. Flotation devices are not a substitute for adult supervision. Do not leave toys near or in the pool with no supervision. Always keep the water clear and sanitised. Store the water treatment products away from childrens reach. Always keep a telephone at or near the pool side so as to not leave children alone when you are on the phone. Always keep pool buoy and pool pole at the pool side. Keep the pool fence gate shut when the pool is not occupied. Install and secure the pool cover when not in use. If possible, use an electronic pool alarm that can detect someone falling into a pool. THERE IS NO REPLACEMANT FOR CLOSE ADULT SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN If an accident occurs: Take the child out of the pool promptly. Call 000 immediately for assistance and follow the advises given to you. Perform CPR immediately if child or adult is not breathing. See page 17 for CPR life support flow chart. The CPR instruction is also on the pool wall. 15 WINTERISING If you do not want to dismantle the pool in winter, please observe the following instructions: 1. Do not drain away all of the pool water, if you do so, the pool may collapse. 2. Treat the pool water with a suitable chemical product. 3. Drain the water 10cm below the Outlet valve in the pool wall. You can use a pump or a garden hose. (See diagram 33) (Diagram 33) 4. Dip the hose into the water until water fills it completely, take out one hose end and water will begin to drain automatically. (See diagram 34) (Diagram 34) 5. Don’t use the water on the garden as this water will be treated with pool chemicals. 6. Close the hole of the return valve with a stopper. They are available from a pool retailer 7. Remove the filtration system from the pool and drain away any water inside the filtration system. You can leave the inlets/outlets attached to the pool. Store the filtration system away in a dry place. Preferably in its original carton. 8. Also remove any other pool accessories and store away in a dry and cool place. 9. Protect the pool with the pool cover. Secure the cover with draw cables and tighten it around the pool. 16 THIS GUIDE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL TRAINING YOUNG CHILDREN SHOULD BE SUPERVISED WHEN USING THIS SPA 17 CPR CHART PROVIDED COURTESY OF AMBULANCE VICTORIA FIRST AID PLACING LOGO STICKERS ONTO POOL WALL 1.
