Energy Supporting Indicator: Rationale: Definition: Methodology: Total electrical use per capita (kWh/year) Electricity consumption statistics are typically collected in three categories, residential, commercial and industrial. The total annual electrical usage of a city in kilowatt hours (the numerator) divided by the total official population of that city (the denominator). Total annual electrical usage per capita is calculated by dividing the total annual electrical use of the city in kilowatt hours (including residential and non-residential use) by the total official population of a jurisdiction to determine average annual per capita usage. Benchmark: Comments and Limitations: Electricity providers typical report electricity consumption statistics by customer and not by resident or they report consumption by sector (residential, commercial and industrial) in bulk and then report more detailed statistics as averages.
