COATING SOLUTIONS
FOR FIXED LENGTH WIRE
Medical device wires require precision coating. The wires are typically
made of stainless steel and precious metals. Medical wire comes in
diameters ranging from .0004” to .040”. Applications such as guidewires,
hybotubes, mandrils, coils, pacemaker leads, sensor wire, catheters and
catheter reinforcement require low friction coatings with good adhesion
and tightly controlled tolerances.
GAPPTEC is your source for coating fixed length medical wires. With
the combined knowledge of Conventional and Electrostatic Atomization
Solutions and a broad spectrum of equipment offerings, we know how to
optimize the entire coating process.
Flexibility in the Coating Processes
•Coat round, flat, tubular or shaped medical wire
•Capable of spraying PTFE, FEP, Polyimides, Polyamides
and many other medical coatings
•Solutions for waterborne or solventborne materials
•Simple spray solutions or advanced automated systems
•Laboratory testing services help find the perfect solution
Advanced process development capabilities
GAPPTEC has fixed length wire spray solutions that will increase
productivity, control quality, and improve profitability. We have the
experience and products to design and build the best system for your
application. Our spray systems have no diameter limits and can coat
wire lengths up to 3 meters. We can provide all the equipment and
training needed to initiate a new coating line or to upgrade your current
system. Equipment capabilities include:
•Dispensing, Metering and Mixing
•Spray Applicators (traditional and electrostatic)
•Product Fixtures, Conveying, and Handling
•Process Controls – IQ, OQ, PQ
•In-line Masking Options
•Curing/Drying (Convection, IR, and UV)

COATING SOLUTIONS
FOR FIXED LENGTH WIRE
GAPPTEC offers 3 atomizing spray options–
•Traditional air atomization with advanced LVMP
air cap technologies
•Electrostatic air spray atomization
•Electrostatic rotary atomization
MedSpray – This compact automatic spray applicator is pneumatically controlled for precise fluid cut off.
The air is controlled remotely by either a solenoid valve or a full control panel. Precision fluid adjustment is
obtained by turning the dial at the back of the applicator to move the needle. The MedSpray also features
an adjustable spray pattern formed with advanced LVMP technology. Pattern sizes range from a small dot
to 7 inches.
MedE’stat - The MedE’stat automatic air
atomization process was developed for the
electrostatic application of coating materials.
The electrostatic process conducts a DC
high voltage charge to the gun electrode
and creates an electrostatic field between
the applicator and the grounded item to be
coated. The MedE’stat contains a patented
locking system that allows the applicator to
be quickly changed without the use of tools.
Pattern sizes range from 2 to 9 inches.
MedBell - This applicator uses Ransburg
rotary electrostatic technology to create a
soft spray pattern for coating fixture wire.
This works by spinning the fluid and using
centrifugal force and mechanical shearing
action to atomize the coating material. This
results in very high transfer efficiency. The
MedBell spray pattern can range from 3 to
11 inches.
Electrostatics Defined
Definition: Method of coating application
in which a high voltage charge is used to
dramatically increase transfer efficiency.
•Coating is negatively charged as it is
atomized
•Product coated is at ground potential, and
appears to be opposite charge
•Opposites attract – coating is drawn to
grounded product.
