WEARING A HARD HAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! An investigation into a recent high potential incident on a Brookfield Multiplex project has highlighted that wearing a hard hat on a construction site can save your life. Whilst the crane crew was removing a crane tie on level 23 a 40mm flogging spanner has been dropped. As the flogging spanner was falling to the ground it struck a lower crane tie before being deflected in to the loading bay and forcefully hitting a dogman on the hard hat. The injured worker was taken to hospital by an ambulance for medical treatment. The worker suffered a head wound requiring 7 stitches. However the potential was there for the worker to be fatally injured if it wasn’t for the fact he was wearing his hard hat. There is no excuse for not wearing a hard hat on a construction site. The impact of the spanner put a dent in the hard hat but prevented a fatal injury. Hard hats must be worn at all times. There are NO excuses!
