(For simplicity in this manual, it will be referred to as the chassis.) All cable routing and cable terminations are done at the front of the rack. Admonishments Important safety admonishments are used throughout this manual to warn of possible hazards to persons or equipment. An admonishment identifies a possible hazard and then explains what may happen if the hazard is not avoided. The admonishments — in the form of Dangers, Warnings, and Cautions — must be followed at all times. These warnings are flagged by use of the triangular alert icon (seen below), and are listed in descending order of severity of injury or damage and likelihood of occurrence. Danger: Danger is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that will cause severe personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the hazard is not avoided. Warning: Warning is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that can cause severe personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the hazard is not avoided. Caution: Caution is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that will or can cause minor personal injury or property damage if the hazard is not avoided. 1207750 Rev A Page 2 © 2001, ADC Telecommunications, Inc. ADCP-80-419 • Issue 1 • December 2001 2 CABLE ROUTING 2.1 Overview When routing cables to the bay, start with the topmost chassis (chassis 1) in the rack. Start with the service provider network element (NE) cables (eight cables–four cables each side). All service provider NE cables are terminated to the wire wrap pins on the inside of the hinged door of the chassis. Terminate all cables according to local practice and close hinged door on chassis. Next route all front customer cables to chassis 1 (eight cable–four cables each side). After all cables have been terminated, repeat same procedure for the second chassis (chassis directly below top chassis) in the rack. Cable remaining chassis in the same manner. 2.2 Service Provider Network Element Cables Warning: Never install chassis in a wet location or during a lightning storm. When installing or modifying communication lines, disconnect lines at the network interface before working with uninsulated lines or terminals. 1. Remove screws (2) and swing open front door on chassis as shown in Figure 2. Page 4 © 2001, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.
