POWER-GEN EUROPE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY WORLD EUROPE 2014 POST-EVENT REPORT
OVERVIEW & HIGHLIGHTS
The POWER-GEN and Renewable Energy World Europe 2014 colocated events generated a realistic view of the future of Europe’s
energy market. Covering key issues such as the integration of
renewable, the stability and reliability of the grid and the security of
energy supply, the exhibition drew more than 11,038 visitors from over
100 countries.
Featuring 435 exhibitors, the co-located shows attracted over a high
percentage of electric utility and power generation companies to the
busy exhibition floor showing the latest technology solutions.
The opening Keynote featured Dipl.-Ing Matthias Hartung, Chief
Executive Officer, RWE Generation SE & RWE Power AG, Germany;
Mr. Vesa Riihimaki, President, Power Plants & Executive Vice President,
Wärtsilä Corporation, Finland; and Dr. Martin Giesen, Chief Executive
Officer, Advanced Power, United Kingdom and set the scene for the
next three days of the event.
Meanwhile on the exhibition floor, attendees looking to expand
their operations globally had the opportunity to meet with Embassy
representatives from all round the world at the Diplomatic Quarter.
On the second day of the conference, the Joint Plenary Panel Discussion
explored the central theme of this year’s event “Navigating the power
transition”. Comprised of five industry experts from around the world,
the panel debated the importance of adaptation for the industry, the
role that national and European governments should play in guiding the
market, and how technology can be the a catalyst for change.
4
On day three, the key conference topics were reviewed in a Joint
Summary session chaired by the Conference Director, Nigel Blackaby.
The session gave a line-up of panellists the opportunity to share their
thoughts, and delegates the chance to ask questions and provide
feedback.
In recognition of Amsterdam hosting POWER-GEN Europe and its colocated shows in 2015, the Dutch Pavilion accomodated the Closing
Reception and Best Paper Awards. Trophies were awarded to Wärtsilä
Corporation, Hitachi Power Europe Service GmbH, Alstom Power,
Babcock Borsig Steinmüller GmbH, Siemens AG,TECHNIP GERMANY
GmbH, Valmet Oy and EVORA – InovCity for their winning papers.
Next year’s event will be held on 9-11 June 2015, and returns to the
Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands.

“It’s been really busy, lots of activity and lots of
communication. I’ve actually been surprised at how many
impromptu conversations have happened being here being
at the booth, and how many collaborations have happened
on the spot, aside from all the appointments we’ve made.”
Patrick Wilson, Director of Government Affairs for
