•Susan Ludington, PhD, CNM, FAAN, brought the practice of Kangaroo Care to America in 1988. She is the first US scientist to be funded by the
National Institutes of Health to do Kangaroo Care research. Dr. Ludington received the AWHONN Excellence in Research Award, the prestigious
Audrey Hepburn Award for Global Contributions to the Health of Children, and in 2010 became the first inauguree of the International Nurse
Researcher Hall of Fame of Sigma Theta Tau International.
