The technical manual, specific to the equipment
being serviced, should be consulted for
recommended safety and service procedures.
o
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Check battery water and clean terminals
Check charging rate under load (light on, etc)
Check alternator belt for wear and adjustment
Check alternator/generator mount bolts for
tightness
Check battery (load test if appropriate)
Check warning devices (horn, back up alarm, etc.)
Check all lights, gauges and hour meter
Check neutral switch (must not crank in FWD or
REV)
Check belt control switches
Check e-stop switch operation
Check e-stop switch indicator on dashboard (TUG
Inc.) Red light should illuminate when e-stop is
tripped and ignition is on.

TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL
Check transmission fluid level
Check differential fluid level
Check shifting mechanism for operation and wear
Check universal joints and drive shaft for
wear/alignment
Check all mounts for wear/tightness
Check vacuum modulator and hose
ENGINE
Wash down engine (if needed) check for oil leaks
Change oil and filter
Inspect fuel and oil lines
Check engine mounts for tightness
Replace fuel filter
Check all belts

EXHAUST SYSTEM
Check for holes and excessive rust
Check all mounting bolts for tightness
Check all hangers and heat shields
o
COOLING SYSTEM
Check radiator, clean fins if necessary. Be careful, do
not damage fins
Check water pump and fan hub bearings
Check fan blades
Check all hoses
Check coolant level and note protection level
__________ 8F. Maintain 50/50 mixture for -34º F
protection level.
Check for coolant leaks.

Operate/check all hydraulic equipment
WHEELS AND BRAKES
Check master cylinder for fluid leaks
Check brake operation, including parking brake
Check brake lines for leaks, chafing and mounting
Check tires for wear/cuts/foreign objects
Check park brake for operation and adjustment. If
brake handle is equipped with an adjustment knob,
it must turn freely. Park brake must work!
Check wheels for damage
Check all lug nuts for tightness
STEERING AND CHASSIS
Check steering column for bad bearing
Check mounting bolts for tightness
Check tie rods, drag link, ball joints and king pins
for wear
Check springs, shocks, U-bolts and shackles

AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
Check carburetor for tightness
Check/replace air filter
Check choke operation
Check and reset engine governor
Check all vacuum systems
Check intake manifold/air intake bolts for tightness
Check all throttle linkages for binding
o
LUBRICATION
Lube all belt rollers
Lube all grease fittings
Lube belt drive chain
Check belt drive chain tension
Lubricate per manufacturer’s specifications
Check oil level in steering gear box/steering pump

HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS
Check hydraulic oil level
Check for hydraulic leaks
Clean breather cap
Check hydraulic cylinders and drive motor chain
Check hoses for excessive wear (soft or brittle
spots)

MISCELLANEOUS
Touch up paint as needed
Replace safety walk/non-skid as needed
Replace decals, reflectors and numbers as needed
C = Needs further attention

OPERATIONAL CHECK
Operate all accessories (check in motion)
Test drive unit
Check belt for proper tracking and alignment
Check chocks are in place
Check safety guards where applicable
Check safety rail(s) operation and pins
Check condition of bumpers/spacers on end of belt
deck

Fluid Tank Fill Caps
Verify all tank fill caps are properly color coded.
Red = gas, Green = diesel, Yellow = hydraulic
o
SERVICE BULLETIN
Verify compliance with NWA service bulletin #48
“Installation of D Style Bumpers on Tug
Manufacturing Model T660 Belt Loaders”. The
top/front end of the belt deck must have two
separate “D” style bumpers, not a single full width
bumper. Service bulletin #48 is available on the
Technical Operations-Plant Maintenance web site
