Continuously operating system for the production of fruit juice from apple mash and other mashes with an integrated reextraction of the pomace for an increased yield.
Description:
The APEX 2500 is a pressing station for the production of fruit juice. In order to achieve especially high yields, the APEX 2500 features an integrated re-extraction system for the pomace, where the pomace is washed with water during the pressing process.
The re-extraction takes place directly in the press according to the counter-current principle. The extraction can be switched on or off, without changing the hourly output of the press.
The amount of water used for re-extraction can be adjusted to meet different requirements, in order to, for example, process different kinds of fruit with minimal dilution of the juice and maximum yield. To achieve this up to 6 counter-current extraction levels as well as up to 3 water injectors are available.
A juice outlet underneath each pressing roller allows for separate draining of juice. Thus it is possible to separately drain preextracted juice and extracted juice.
The press features a vertical structure. The mash is fed into the press at the bottom end and is then transported upwards..
Thus, at a height of about 5m, the pomace either falls onto a horizontal screw conveyor or into a container via a slide plate.
An optimum adjustment of the consecutive pressing rollers’ diameters guarantees a gentle pressing and makes sure that no mash is pressed out at the sides. Thus high yield and high juice quality can be ensured.
Technical details:
A first big roller slowly increases the pressure thereby allowing for a gentle extraction even of mash that is difficult to press.
The mash is distributed continuously via a feeding roller. Therefore the press is continuously fed and a high level of efficiency is achieved.
The press belts are manufactured from a special polyester fiber. Their robustness ensures long durability.
The tension of the press belts and the regulation of the belts are controlled pneumatically. Hydraulic oil, which could seep into the juice, is not required.
The belt's drive is regulated evenly via an electronic rotations and torque controller which ensures that the power is evenly and gently distributed to both belts.
Rotating brushes give the belts an initial cleaning. Then the press belts are cleaned by 2 high pressure injectors that are moved crossways across the belts in straight lines.
Because of the high pressure (approx. 100 bars) water consumption is very low (approx. 2000 liters) and cleaning results are excellent. The housing of the cleaning injectors is enclosed completely and features good accessibility via large, hinged openings. Water still clinging to the belts is removed by brush arrangements.
The juice drained from the press can be filtered via an additional juice pre-purification device.
Because of optimum design details and good accessibility the press can be cleaned quickly and easily. The casing and/or enclosures of the belt cleaning devices are easy to access and to open and even removable if necessary.

Description of the pressing station
The belt press APEX 1500 is a continuous pressing system for the production of fruit juice.
By adding water directly in the press, the extraction of pomace takes place at the same moment. The aim is to get the remaining sellable matter, especially sugar, in the pomace, allowing to increase the yield.
The press is either directly fed the mill or the mash is fed into the feeding hopper, via a variable pump. Thanks to a quick regulation it is possible to adjust the optimum thickness of the mash cake.
A first very big roller increases slowly the pressure and allows a quick and extensive deducing.
A total of 12 rollers ensures an optimal big pressing surface of 12 m², enabling to reach a yield up to 85 – 88 kg juice.
The vertical construction of the press allows a multi – step counter – current extraction, i.e. water is given to the pomace cake from the end press roller.
The water is aspirated by pomace and dissolves the remaining sugar.
In the end pressing zone, the pomace is pressed out, so that there is, according to mash condition, as less humidity left as possible.
Because of the pomace outlet, being at the top, the pomace can be conveyed horizontally by a screw.
The belt cleaning device takes care of a proper cleaning of the belt. By means of a continuous an constant high pressure belt cleaning, no cleaning breaks are necessary.
To reduce water consumption to the minimum level, the water for belt cleaning is recycled and screened by relative screen.
The water required for the extraction is taken from the circulating water which has three advantage:
• the sugar dissolved in the cleaning water foes into the juice
• the water taken for the extraction is replaced by fresh water so that the cleaning water is replaced
• the water consumption is reduced to the water quantity used for extraction.
The pressed juice is fed onto a vibratory screen. There, particles are removed and returned to the mash feed by a pump.
