Dear Colleague
It gives us great pleasure to inform you that the 28th Annual
conference of Indian Association for Cancer Research will be
organized at the Indian Institute of Science from February
21-24, 2009. We planned this conference to coincide with our
institute’s centenary year (2008 to 2009). This is one among
the many conferences that we have planned as part of the
centenary celebrations. Cancer research has entered a critical
phase in the global scenario following the recent excitements in
genomics arena. We now have a better understanding of the
basic mechanisms of cancer initiation and progression with
innumerable genes and signaling pathways identified in the
recent years. The major task now in front of the scientists is
to translate these bench side findings to the bedside for the benefit
of patients. The challenges in front of us are in the area of

current therapeutic practices and last but not the least, prevention
of cancer. In view of this, we are making every effort to see this
conference serves as a forum for scientific exchanges in the
frontier areas of cancer biology. We have planned an exciting
program with key note lectures on each day by world leaders
in cancer biology and scientific sessions in all the modern areas
of cancer research with speakers from within the country and
abroad. In addition, we invite all the young students and
scientists to display their work by way of posters. Few selected
abstracts will be given an opportunity for short presentations.
Besides, there are several awards instituted by the IACR and
the hosts. I hope you will be able to find time to attend this
conference and contribute towards the scientific deliberations.
February is an ideal time in Bangalore when the weather is
