Connecting building automation and process control New regulations resulting from the liberalization within the energy market are increasing demands for energy data management that connect building automation with process control and/or remote control systems. Panasonic offers PLC-based gateway solutions for such applications. Operational data relevant for building automation can be collected via LON (Local Operating Network), BACnet (Building Automation and Control Networks) or M-Bus (Meter-Bus) and transmitted using standard protocols such as IEC 60870-5, OPC (OLE for Process Control) or Modbus TCP to a standardized SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system. Of course, commands and set values for process control can be transferred securely to the building automation system. All messages/alarms and measurement values receive a unique time stamp. Afterwards, the data passes through a puffer mechanism to ensure that it can be correctly identified once communication to the distributed control system is reestablished following an interruption.
