1974, we are the nation’s only statewide membership association for nonprofits, philanthropy, public agencies, advisors, and our allies. We provide education, advocacy, thought leadership, and project management to attract investment to the sector, develop top talent, improve systems and policies, and build organizational capacity. Members work in 26 issue areas across the state. Our Grantmaking Members include private foundations, such as family and independent foundations, public charities, corporations, donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, and individual philanthropists. Our Advisor Members include consultants, attorneys, investment managers, and other professional advisors to grantmakers and nonprofits. We also actively engage social entrepreneurs, impact investors, and B-Corps in our work to spur innovation in the sector. Together, our efforts help educate children, shelter the homeless, enrich the arts, and address a host of other critical issues to create healthier and more vibrant communities throughout

About the Position

Forefront is the only regional association in the US that represents grantmakers, operating nonprofits, and their allies. Its mission is to build a vibrant social impact sector for all the people of Illinois.

Members are its primary customers. Within the context of the mission, Member Engagement creates opportunities for networking, education, policy engagement, leadership development, partnership and collective action among members. It also includes the Forefront Library, which is the largest philanthropic collection in the Midwest and offers unique services and resources to both the philanthropic and nonprofit sector throughout Illinois.

The Coordinator, Member Engagement reports to Vice President Member Engagement.

General Job Description

The Member Engagement Coordinator is responsible for assisting with recruitment, retention, and renewal of

Members. The Coordinator’s main function is supporting the recruitment and stewardship activities of the

Member Engagement team. The position requires the candidate to bring Forefront values of hospitality, inclusion and integrity to all interactions with members and potential members as well as with Forefront staff.

The Coordinator works closely with and reports to the Vice President of Member Engagement.

Essential Job Duties and Expected Outcomes

1.

Provides administrative support and logistics to VP of Member Engagement and President/CEO to carry out their responsibilities related to recruitment.

2.

Investigates, recommends, and maintains strategic partnerships that add member value.

3.

Assists in designing and implementing an engaging membership experience that builds customer loyalty.

4.

Identifies strong prospects and works with other Forefront staff to develop a recruitment strategy.

5.

Works with VP and CEO to create processes that ensure high quality member and non-member experience across the organization.

6.

Assists with the implementation of processes for identifying and engaging prospects for all types of membership including analyzing data and creating reports in a timely manner to support achieving goals.

7.

Works with all staff on creative ways to share engagement opportunities.

8.

Works with Member Engagement team to develop outreach strategies and engagement opportunities for all potential members, including scheduling meetings and speaking appearances for relevant staff on behalf of Forefront.

9.

Provides an engaging, high quality customer experience to meet the needs of current and potential members: a.

Respond to inquiries about membership and related benefits in a timely and professional manner, often serving as the first point of contact for organizations interacting with Forefront. b.

Process membership applications according to Forefront administrative systems. c.

Ensures the accuracy of application records and all member information in the Forefront database, Salesforce. d.

Prepares appropriate packets for recruitment and retention as needed.

10.

Provides inter-departmental support to cover Library reference desk, education and training sessions, and other events, as needed.

11.

Maintain required job skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings as an active team member.

12.

Participates in the continuous improvement process lead by the Senior Vice President,

Member Services, preparing reports as needed.

Performance Measures

Achieves overall membership goals, as well as specific goals for Grantmaker, Operating

Nonprofit, Advisor members, and other member goals

Meets all member retention and annual growth goals in annual operating plan

Member database is maintained accurately and in a timely way

Inquiries regarding membership, benefits, and services are handled in a timely and friendly manner within 24 hours

• Marketing materials and other communications or written materials are professionally prepared and kept up-to-date

• Demonstrates excellent customer service both internally and externally

Position Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.

A demonstrated commitment to working in a member-centered environment.

Two years’ experience working in and understanding of the nonprofit sector and/or an association setting preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

• Strong project management skills and a demonstrated ability to work with teams, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure high quality work.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Emotional maturity and agility in working in a fast-paced environment.

• Computer literacy with demonstrated experience in utilization of databases and Microsoft

Office.
