Celebrating 15 years of Service and City Pride
ELK GROVE NEWS
Recognize a Veteran or Public Safety Worker
Name a City Street After Them!
Honor those whose service went above and beyond the standard call of duty—nominate them for the City’s
Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program! Street signs will include a symbol indicating their applicable
branch of service, and the honoree will also have his/her biography posted on the City’s website. By naming a
City street in their honor, we remember them, celebrate them, and pass on their legacy of extraordinary service
to future generations.
The Laguna Ridge area will soon have a street named in honor
of Staff Sergeant Byron Lee Reeves, an Air Force veteran
and Elk Grove resident of 41 years.

Help Create a Brighter Future through Our City’s Visioning Process
New State law (AB 1826) requires some businesses and multifamily
complexes to recycle organic waste. To help our state achieve its
aggressive recycling and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission
goals, we are all encouraged to do the same.
Organic waste includes:
• Food waste
• Landscape and pruning waste
• Food-soiled paper
• Wood waste (non-hazardous)
• November 7 – Visioning Workshop
•December 17 – City Council and Planning Commission Study Session
•Mobile Workshops – Look for pop-up workshops within Elk Grove events
Businesses affected by this law will be contacted by the City of Elk Grove. Businesses are advised to work with their
waste service company to identify the appropriate bin size and pick-up frequency.
Make your voice heard in planning Elk Grove’s future!
If you and your business or multifamily complex would like more information, visit
egtrashrecycleservices.org or call the Integrated Waste Division at 478-2282.
For details, visit elkgrovcity.org/generalplan.

Recycle Organics—It’s the Law!
Thank you to the many community members who participated in the Citizen
Planning Academy in September! Public input is still needed to address
community issues such as land use, parks, infrastructure, safety, noise,
community health, and much more as we craft an updated General Plan we
can all be proud of. Here are some upcoming opportunities to get involved:

Re-gifting those wacky white elephant gifts isn’t the only kind of recycling going
on this holiday season. Elk Grove offers two special holiday recycling programs
to make the giving season a little easier on both residents and our landfill:
Recycle Your Holiday String Lights
Take your indoor, outdoor, broken, or unwanted string lights
to be properly recycled.* Two locations to serve you:
Elk Grove City Hall Lobby
8401 Laguna Palms Way
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Collection available between
December 1 and January 29.
Special Waste Collection Center
9255 Disposal Lane
Sunday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Collection available between December 1 and January 8.
Large lighted holiday decorations such as inflatables and
lighted tree/reindeer sculptures will only be accepted at the
Special Waste Collection Center.
*String lights cannot be recycled if placed in your residential
recycle container.
Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Recycle your tree for mulch and other purposes! Here’s how:
•
•
•
•
Remove trees from stands.
Remove ornaments, lights, nails, tinsel, and metal rod supports from trees.
Place your tree* curbside next to your green waste container by 6 a.m. during the weeks of December 26, January 4, or January 18.
OR take your tree of any size, free of charge, to either the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane, Elk Grove) or Elder Creek Transfer and Recovery Station (8642 Elder Creek Road, Sacramento).
Artificial, flocked, or “live” trees with root balls will not be accepted.
*Trees longer than 6 feet must be cut into 3-foot or shorter
