120/277 VOLT
Automatic On/
Manual On
Wall Switch
How It Operates:
RSENIRW12 is a self-contained motion-sensing lighting control
which replaces a conventional wall switch for energy savings and
convenience. It turns off lights automatically after a room is
vacated.
RSENIRW12 offers a choice of Automatic On or Manual On
modes. In the Automatic On mode, the lights turn on automatically
when a person enters the room. In the Manual On mode, lights are
turned on by pressing the touchplate on the face of the switch.
Manual On mode can be activated by setting the Light Control to
the fully counter-clockwise position (see Adjustment Controls
diagrams). In either mode, when lights are turned on, they will
remain on as long as someone is in the room. When the room is
vacated, the lights will turn off automatically after the pre-set time
delay interval. Recommended time delay is usually ten minutes.
Lights may be turned off while the room is occupied by pressing the
touchplate.
RSENIRW12 uses PIR technology to monitor a room for
occupancy. Its segmented Fresnel lens divides the field of view
into sensor zones, and detects the changes in temperature that are
created when a person passes into or out of a sensor zone. The
lights will remain on as long as that person moves through the
sensor zones.
Wallplate not included.
Mounting and Wiring:
RSENIRW12 mounts to single or two-gang junction boxes and is
designed to fit into designer-style wallplates. A ground connection is
required. Three-wire connection allows quick and easy installation. No
minimum load requirement. No leakage to load in off mode.
Two-level switching is easily achieved with the addition of a standard
toggle switch as shown in the wiring diagram. If switches are wired to
control all of the lamps in a fixture rather than a portion of each fixture,
consult with building manager and occupant to determine which lights
should be off when the toggle switch is open.
UL Listed and CSA Certified, complies with California Title 24 Energy
Code.
CAUTION: For use with 120 or 277 VAC only. Do not use with any
other voltage. Do not wire to control receptacle circuits.
Electrical Ratings:
Special Features:
• Manual On mode provides maximum savings by avoiding
unnecessary lighting in offices with adequate daylight or for brief
periods of occupancy.
• Automatic On mode provides maximum convenience.
• Manual Off push-button (touchplate) can be used in either mode.
• Segmented Fresnel lens provides optimum sensitivity and performance. Advanced detection of minor motion allows a 10-minute
delay setting, resulting in greater savings. Time delay range is
30 seconds (for installer testing) to 30 minutes.
• Adjustable sensitivity provides optimum coverage and avoids
false activation for increased savings. Range can be adjusted
from 36 to100 percent of the total coverage area.
• False activation from corridor activity is avoided with blinders
located on either side of the lens. Horizontal field of view may be
o
o
adjusted between 180 and 32 to avoid coverage “leaking” into
corridors.
• Adjustable Ambient Light Override prevents lights from turning on
automatically in offices with ample daylight, for increased
savings.
• Power supply circuitry minimizes use of line voltage and ensures
product reliability even with high inrush ballasts.
• One model for either 120 or 277 Volt circuits.
Range & Coverage:
Maximum coverage area is approximately 2100 square feet. Minor
motion coverage up to 300 square feet. The maximum sensing
distance is 40 feet in front of the sensor, and 30 feet at each side.
o
Field of view is 180 . Refer to Coverage Diagrams to verify
coverage. A sensitivity control permits adaptation to different room
conditions.

Ballast Compatibility:
RSENIRW12 is compatible with magnetic and electronic ballasts.
Housing and Colors:
Durable, injection-molded housing. ABS resin complies with UL 94V0.
Available in white or ivory.
Size & Weight:
Mounting Plate Dimensions: 4.06” H x 1.75” W. Product Housing
Dimensions: 2.61” H x 1.3” W x 1.1.85” D. Weight: 4.25 oz.
Installation Considerations:
RSENIRW12 must be properly grounded in order to operate. It must
have a clear view of the area to be controlled. It should not be blocked
by solid objects. The sensor will not penetrate glass or walls. Mounting
height should be kept below five feet. To prevent false activation,
position sensor at least 4 feet away from HVAC registers. Not for use
o

where temperatures fall below 0 C or exceed 50 C. For indoor use
only.
Note: The life of some compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) is shortened
by frequent automatic or manual switching. Check with CFL and ballast
manufacturer to determine effects of cycling.
