SH-1 Product Specifications Skyhook Retractable Lighting Support The Skyhook is a unique retractable lighting support device designed specifically to support theatrical lighting instruments. The Skyhook offers the architect an alternative to ugly permanent visible lighting positions in finished ceiling areas in hotel ballrooms, lobbies, houses of worship, and other places. Live presentations need proper lighting to compete in our modern world of mass media and multimedia events. The better the speaker is seen, the better the speaker is heard. This applies to business as well as social functions. Lighting with proper angle and beam spread is very important to the aesthetic value of any event. Many buildings have beautiful interior designs. Understandably, some of these interiors are not conducive to permanent lighting positions. Leviton Lighting Control Division’s Skyhook offers an alternative. The Skyhook lighting support is built into the ceiling. When special presentation lighting is required, the Skyhook is lowered and the lighting instruments for the event are attached. When the event is over, the lighting instruments are removed and the Skyhook disappears out of sight. The Skyhook can be installed in any multipurpose architectural space that occasionally requires theatrical lighting. Applications include dais, head table and show lighting. Banquets, weddings, proms and class reunions use the Skyhook lighting system to enhance their events. The standard Skyhook unit comes with four receptacles, two on the front and two on the back of the pull down column, ready to power the lights suspended on the cross pipe. Normally, these receptacles are 20 ampere twist locks or 20 ampere parallel blade grounded. These can be individually fed by four circuits, grouped on two circuits, or grouped onto a single circuit. Receptacles for overseas installations can be fitted with receptacles common to the country of destination. By sacrificing one power receptacle, a low voltage section can be created allowing two low voltage connectors suitable for video or audio signals to be mounted in its place. Users can then hang video monitors and or speaker columns from the Skyhook mounting pipe. SPECIFICATION SUBMITTAL JOB NAME: CATALOG NUMBERS: JOB NUMBER: Leviton Mfg. Co., Inc. P.O. THIS DRAWING SHOWS ONE UNIT DROPPED DOWN FROM CEILING — READY FOR USE, AND ONE UNIT FULLY RETRACTED INTO THE CEILING Several versions of the Skyhook are available. The original SH1 is the standard unit. While it is rated for a 300 pound load, it has been tested to a yield point of over 7000 pounds. It normally has either four 20 ampere Nema L5-20R twist lock receptacles, or four Nema 5-20R parallel blade receptacles. The SH-1HD is a duplicate unit except it is made of heavier gauge steel, with additional weldments and gussets. This allows the SH-1HD to be rated for a 1000 pound load with a tested yield strength of over 11000 pounds. This large safety factor allows for confident installation of heavy equipment over people’s heads. Two other versions are available: the SH-1U and SH-1HDU. They are similar to the units above except these have provisions to mount many types of international receptacles for overseas customers who do not want NEMA style receptacles. Finally, our newest version of the Skyhook eliminates one of the four power receptacles and replaces it with a barriered space for two low voltage connectors. This version of the Skyhook can now be used as a support device for video monitors and speaker columns. The low voltage receptacles power these types of devices from the Skyhooks. In this case, the Skyhook numbers above append the letters LV to the end, such as SH-1U-LV, to indicate that a barriered low voltage receptacle area is to be included.
