KTH’s Vision and Strategy for China Cooperation June 2014 The KTH-China group: Ramon Wyss, director international affairs China Urban Westergren, deputy director international affairs China Xun Wang, regional advisor China Yingfang He, research office Xintong Zhang, student recruitment China Strategy for Sino-Swedish cooperation • From individual researcher to strategic university cooperation • Develop joint programs to meet global challenges for the benefit of mankind • Integration of research, education and innovation – Cooperation within the knowledge triangle partnership with society • Enable a new generation of researchers to meet societal challenges from a global perspective • innovation driven research and education ÅÅÅÅ-MM-DD Sino-Swedish Research Cooperation: From IVA-Vinnova report “Sweden’s global connectivity in research” “KTH’s dominance of Sweden’s presence in China in Physical and Engineering Sciences is indeed striking, with KTH’s share of Sweden’s co- publications with China ranging from around 40 percent in Engineering and Materials Science to 70 percent in ICT, with Chemistry at close to 50 percent and Physics at just under 60 percent. Sweden’s relatively strong presence in China compared to many other European countries, as discussed previously, is thus largely an effect of the strong presence of KTH in China.” Sino-Swedish Research Cooperation Strategic Partnerships more and better with less • Cooperation along KTHs broad areas of research: to meet global challenges – Asian dimension • Tsinghua University – C-Campus @ Tsinghua&KTH • Shanghai Jiatong – strategic partner – physical center for Sino-Swedish Cooperation • Joint research centers and joint educational initiatives: Fudan University: Joint research and BSc program within ICT Dalian University of Technology: Joint Research Center on Molecular Devices Zhejiang University: Joint Research Center in Photonics Summary of KTH-China cooperation Name Tsinghua University THU Peking University PKU Beijing Jiaotong University BJTU University of Science and Technology, USTB Beijing City MSc student exchange Joint Research Centers (28 total) Beijing 4 full year Beijing Beijing 2 full year 2 full year Beijing -- Shanghai Jiao Tong University SJTU Shanghai 4 full year Fudan University FDU Dalian University of Technology DUT Zhejiang University ZJU Harbin Institute of Technology HIT University of Science and Technology of USTC China Shanghai Dalian Hangzhou Harbin 2 2 4 4 South East University SEU Hefei Nanjing full full full full year year year year Nuclear and Sustainable Energy --Genome of Engineering Materials Medical and Biomedical Technology + Energy Platform ICT Molecular Devices Photonics -- -- Bio and Nano-Materials 4 full year Sustainable Urban Development and Architecture Sino-Swedish Research Cooperation KTH's Professor Börje Johansson, once taught the former President of Tsinghua University, Gu Binglin, and is currently an honorary professor at Tsinghua.
