USE OF THE MACHINE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The tomatoes picking machine is an agricultural machine suitable for colecting the product directly in
the field; it automatically choices the rip product and directly loads it upon the machine.
The cycle develops through the following steps:
-PICKING
-SHAKING
-FIRSTSELECTION
-FINISHING
-PRODUCTUNLOADING
In particular:
The machine directly draws through a comb-system the product by the plant. For the onions and
potatoes it works directly on the field, and lets them upon a conveyor belt which separates the fruits
by collected parts of the plant.
The fruits selected are sent upon upon the sorting board by a conveyor belt and by a sorting
electronic device.
In this area the product suffers two checking: the first manual check being fundamental for the rough
sorting, the second electronic one for the fine sorting; this system rejects all the stranger components
and the green tomato, keeeping the rip tomato.
After the fine sorting there is the finishing area, a manual stage, where the staff should eliminate the
products not checked by the computer.
After these checks, the selected product is loaded upon the supporting equipment by an adjustable
lifting conveyor belt.
The machine can not automatically work and always requires the assistance of the sorting operators
and of the machine responsible driving the machine.
It is necessary futhermore to have a supporting machine having unloading room and/or trailer which
should receive the product collected by the machine.

USE OF THE MACHINE
INFORMATION ABOUT THE NOISE
The noise db(A) level in open field can be changed according to the operative condition of the
machine with respect to the abovesaid and complying with the producer information.
The noise continuous pressure level (A) is the following:
a) standstill vehicle
b) running vehicle
a) very used vehicle
86 dB(A)
87 dB(A)
90 dB(A)
If the machine is located into a building and if it is close to any wall, the acoustic level can
increase, due to the acoustic refractions.
MACHINE DESIGN
The machine presents two designs: road design and picking design.
1) Road design.
Thus the machine should have the sorting plan retracted, the trailer
load rotated in the aim of fitting to 2,54 (for SL 95 T and
SL150T),2,90 (for SL 350T ) and to 4,04 m (for SL 350 T/ST) and
to 3,64 (for SL 150 T/ST) of the road dimensions , with the board
and the top closed.
2) Picking design.
The machine is set to work having: the sorting board open, the
trailer loading rotated towards the exterior, the board and the top
loosen. The machine furthermore should present the picking axis
moved with respect to the running axis, this for preventing the
wheels crushing the fruit row aside the row to be collected.
Processed products:
The machine can only process tomatoes in the standard configuration; onions and potatoes
can be processed by using a special tool.
PRE-USING CHECKINGS
The self-propelled machine for the tomato picking is a machine enabled to be used on the
road and upon cultivated grounds; it should be necessary therefore to realize some checks
according to the required use.
FOR THE DISPLACEMENT ON THE ROAD
On this condition, the person responsible for the machine should check the following:
1) the setting for the traffic running is appropriate
2) all the luminous warnings (turn indicators, indicator lamps, lights) are working;
3) the resting brake is working;
4) there is enough oil;
5) the tires pressure is appropriate.
On the way, do not travel by using the first gear, having the engine at the
maximum speed and do not exceed 20 Km/h
Use and maintenance manual
IV.6
USE OF THE MACHINE
FOR PICKING ON THE FIELD
Before beginning the picking it should be necessary to execute the previous checkings, i.e. at
the beginning of each process, in particular:
BEWARE!
For the best functioning and for a long life of the pumps unit, circuit of shakers and
of accumulator the machine has to be let at a max revolution speed of 1200 x 15
min. before starting work with the functioning parts
1) set the machine for the picking;
2) check the right running of all the elements of the machine (sorting band, picking fingers,
lifting and displacement, etc...);
3) check the efficiency of the emergency stoppages and of the alarms;
4) allow only the authorized people to accede the sorting board;
5) check all the operators are equipped with the individual protections;
6) prevent stranger people to accede the operative area of the machine;
7) check the ideal conditions for picking.

USE OF THE MACHINE
TEMPORARY DIFFERENTIAL LOCKING
LEVER
This service control (A) when pushed, temporary
locks the differential. When loosen, it automatically
returns to the resting position, releasing the
differential.
This control has to be used in case the
machine looses grip. It must be enabled
with wheels at a standstill ONLY and only
for the time being necessary to overcome
the critical condition. Never exceed the
speed of 5 Km/h with the control enabled.
A
A
B
ACCELERATOR
It is located on the left side of the seat; when pushed
(A) it increases the revolutions number, when pulled
(B) it decreases the revolution number of the engine.
CHANGE GEAR
Located under the steering wheel, it can be actuated
through a two-position switch (B):
1.
2.
Fast running position
Slow running position
1
2
Speed has to be changed exclusively with the
machine stopped
B
RUNNING DIRECTION
It can be controlled by the cloche lever; when pushed
(A), the machine goes on, when pulled (B) the
machine goes back. To start the cloche pull it
upward. The control can be used as a service brake:
if during the running (backward or foreword) you
quickly invert the running direction, the machine
brakes, the speed of the machines proportional to the
action of the control; for example: if you push the
lever foreword, the machine will work at the
maximum speed, if you half push it, the machine will
move with an average speed.

USE OF THE MACHINE
ALARM PILOT LAMPS
When the engine is running, the lights must be off.
ENGINE OIL PRESSURE
With the key to pos. 1 the warning lamp turns on, when the engine is started it turns off. If the
lamp is on after the engine start it means that the engine oil pressure has dropped below the
allowable minimum level. In the absence of a visible seal problem (oil leak) and if the oil
pressure is displayed on the pressure gauge (2) there is no risk for the engine, otherwise stop
the engine immediately
Stop the engine if the oil pressure lamp is on and the pressure gauge displays a
0 engine oil pressure
Check the oil level that might have dropped to the minimum level. Replenish oil until the level
reaches the maximum reference mark. To check the engine oil level see the engine use and
maintenance manual.
If the oil level is correct and the signal lamp is on, apply to the IVECO AIFO service centre.
THE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGED
When the checking light of the charge switches on during the starting and/or the running, that
means that there is a failure which must be eliminated in a SANDEI-MTS service centre or at
an authorized motor vehicle electrician.
LIGHT SHOWING THE FUEL LEVEL
This light must switch on when the ignition key is rotated into the position 1 and switch off
when the engine is started. If it does not switch off after the engine starting or if it switches on
during the running, that means that the fuel level is below the reserve limit.
Put the fuel as soon as possible.
We inform you that when the machine is in reserve, it has the following
endurance:
if working 20 minutes
if moving 8 Km.
PREHEATING INDICATOR LIGHT
This light switches on when the ignition key is rotated into the position (1); it is possible to
start the machine just after having switched off the light.
DO NOT START THE ENGINE BEFORE HAVING SWITCHED OFF THE PREHEATING
LIGHT.
HYDRAULIC OIL TEMPERATURE SIGNAL LAMP
When the hydraulic oil temperature control signal lamp goes on, the machine stops since the
hydraulic oil has reached too a high temperature.
Wait for some minutes to let the oil cool then try the machine start again. If the problem
continues apply to a service centre of MTS
AIR FILTER OBSTRUCTED LAMP
When the air filter obstructed lamp turns on the machine stops: dismount the air filter and
clean it carefully or replace it. In case the lamp turns on after the filter replacement apply to a
service centre of MTS

ERRORS
In case an error status is detected on one actuator when selected, that is when its code is
shown on the Functions Display, the Values Display shows the flashing message “EXX”, where
XX indicates the type of detected error on the basis of the following table:
An actuator in the error status cannot be turned ON, that is cannot be used.
In case, during calibration, at its turning on the actuator does not pass the calibration phase
(ex. it is disconnected or locked or the limit-swich does not work or no variations are
displayed on the potentiometer during the run) the 06 error is signalled (attention: only
selected actuators are checked; ex. in case only 3 actuators have been selected, the fourth
actuator - "AU" - is not checked and hence will create no 06 error) and the actuator cannot
be used until the problem is solved and the control unit turned on again.
Other errors, 01 to 05, can on the contrary be caused at any moment during functioning.

TACHOMETERTC 01: USE AND
FUNCTIONS
The tachometer “TC01” has been constructed
by using high luminosity L.E.D. so to assure the
perfect readability even when in presence of
strong incident luminous radiation .
Having internally installed a microprocessor of
the very last generation , the instrument supply a
complete range of high accuracy measurement
and can, at the same time, work in pair to ANY
type of combination between speed reducer
and pneumatic systems.
The instrument can, furthermore, keep
inalterated both calibration parameters and the
values countered even when the power supply
is missing for an unlimited time.
The main functions are: tachometer, total
kilometer-counter, partial metre-counter (with
checked enabling) and pulse-counter.

DIGITAL SELF-LEVELING "DIGILEVEL"
AIM OF THE DEVICE
The DIGILEVEL system by Protec S.r.l. is a third generation digital "self-leveling" device specially
conceived to be mounted on the MTS Sandei harversters.
The aim of the instrument is to maintain levelled (that is parallel to the horizon) a harvester plane,
which turns according to a pre-setted axe and acting on oildynamic actuators (nowadays there is the
coupling with the DANFOSS actuators 157BPVEO at 24 Vdc, on-off type).

LIGHTING
As it is lightened the control unit starts functioning after a few seconds, and realises the following
sequence:
a) A and B exits ' inhibition, for safety reasons
b) Lightening (for a second) of all the LEDS (to check their functioning) and following switching off
(only the power LED, which is not controlled by the control unit, is on).
c) LUMINOUS INDICATIONS: the control unit is equipped with four luminous indications:
- POWER: it is on if the feeding voltage to the control unit is present
- RUN: it is lightening if the control unit is functioning in a correct way
and
they indicate the state of the A and B controls to the electrovalve, or have
diagnostic functions according to the following table:

Be sure that the control actuators did not suffer any collision or damages before
the starting of the plant.
During the temporary rest, prevent to change the valve adjustments of the
actuators and anything which could cause any dangerous situation for the
starting.
SETUP AND ADJUSTMENT
Before beginning the work it is necessary to adjust and setup the machine in the best way, in
all its parts.
Fist of all it is necessary to open the side board with its safety guard, then, open the
penthouse.
Adjust the height of the unloading belt (it can change according to the trailer used) and the
depth of the plant cutting acting upon the cutting adjusting wheels. You might perform this
operation just after having removed the protection being beside the mowing rod; at the end of
the work you always have to put this protection again.
Use and maintenance manual
IV.44
USE OF THE MACHINE
PROCESSING
During the picking the rotation speed of the engine might be :
- 1.800 rev/min. for the six cylinders.
You could insert the differential lock only having the driving gears in a straight
position.
Upon the board there is the “SHAKER CONTROL” device controlling the frequency of the forewordbackward motions of the shakers. Each value corresponds to a number key to be planned. Every
time the driver should program the suitable value according to the product consistency.
The operator should adjust the depth of the mowing rod, acting upon the cutting adjusting wheels,
according to the kind of cultivation.
We remind you to check the sight of the trailer loading elevator, this should be not too much high to
damage the product in the falling and not too much low to collide the board of the trailer during the
machine
movement.
The processing of the Picking Machine can be divided into the following steps:
- extraction of the tomato plant;
-cutting;
- transportation;
- shaking;
- transport to the sorting belt;
- unloading on the trailer.
Plants are uprooted by forks located on the machine front side and called ‘fingers’
The extraction of the tomato plants is done by a set of forks, fitted in the front part of the machine,
which are called
"fingers". They work alternatively highering the plant from the ground thus allowing the harvesting
blade, which is fitted immediately after the fingers, to cut it completely. Then, the tomato plant is
sent to the cleaning area through a conveyor.
This area if equipped with a shaking conveyor executing the first product selection: passing through
this shaking action the fruit is separated from the plant.
The outcome of this first separation passes through a ventilation area where leaves and stalks are
taken off and ejected.
At the same time, the fruit is sent to the sorting area where, after a first manual control,it is submitted
to the final sorting done by an electronic device. This instrument, called "COLOR SORTER", using a
system of photocells, detects all that is not ripe tomato and rejects it.
Rejection is carried out by a set of flaps which hit the elements to be thrown away thus making it to
fall down from the conveyor.
The whole sorting procedure is assisted by skilled personnel thus securing an optimum harvesting.
The final selected product is sent to the feed conveyor for loading onto the trailer.

AUTOLEVELLING SYSTEM
The machine is equipped with an automatic autoleveling system
During this operation the manual control lever (in the picture) oscillates: this is normal.
It is absolutely prohibited to hold the manual control lever when the machine is
autoleveling.
MTS will not be held responsible for damages due to the non respect of this
prohibition. In case of anomaly in the autoleveling electronic circuit it will
possible to reset the machine by means of the manual control lever only after
the machine turning off and the complete disconnection of the electronic
circuit.
In case this operation is not carried out, the hydraulic distributor could be
seriously damaged.
