2014 – 2015 CAM NEWTON FOUNDATION School Pride Program: “1 SCHOOL. 1 PRIDE.” Participation Instructions and Guidelines The Cam Newton Foundation, in partnership with CMS, is excited to announce a NEW program for the 2014 – 2015 academic year. This program will continue with the overarching theme of SCHOOL PRIDE, which the CNF has focused on for the past two years. From the inception of the CNF School Pride programs, the goal is to build a culture of belonging to something much greater than an individual. SCHOOL PRIDE supports the overall school mission and renews the commitment to education by enhancing and cultivating an environment for respectful and responsible students and administrators in school communities. The CNF wants to see SCHOOL PRIDE in each and every one of our middle schools! PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The theme of this year’s SCHOOL PRIDE program is “1 School. 1 Pride.” Each month, all forty-three middle schools and K-8ths in CMS can submit a video that displays their SCHOOL PRIDE AND SPIRIT. SCHOOL PRIDE encompasses anything that makes students proud to be a member of your school and unites the student body by building a positive culture. SCHOOL PRIDE is not just wearing your school’s colors. It is extremely contagious and can serve as a means to bring a community together. (Note: If you are a K-8th school, this initiative should be completed by 6 – 8th grades only). The videos should be 90 seconds or less and submitted within the deadline each month. Schools will upload their videos to YouTube and share with the judging committee. A video submission form will also be included with each entry; this form will provide space where schools can share details that support the video and the connection to SCHOOL PRIDE. The videos should align with the CNF mission and demonstrate positive impact on school climate. All this, and more, can be found in the How to Participate section below. Once the videos are submitted, a committee representing the CNF, CMS and the overall Charlotte community will select the winner. One school per month will be selected as the winner. The winner will be selected the week following the submission deadlines. THE REWARD: Each month’s winner will receive a DINNER or LUNCH with Cam Newton. Cam will spend time with the invited guests from your school – all expenses paid. The location and timing will be mutually arranged between the school and the Cam Newton Foundation. The winning schools will be able to invite the student team who produced the video (15 or less students), the staff lead, Principal and several other administrative staff. Location and timing for these “Cam Experiences” are TBD but will be mutually agreed upon. In addition to the “Cam Experience,” winning schools will receive a banner to hang in their school lobby. The winning school videos will be posted and highlighted on Cam’s social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and the CNF website. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: STEP 1 Identify your school’s staff lead and student video production team. Important Note: 15 or less students make up the student team. The student team can change from month to month, or remain the same for the duration of the program. **Schools will be responsible for identifying 15 or less students (the student team) to produce their school’s video. The School will also be responsible for identifying the lead staff member for the video projects. Schools should identify and select a group of diverse change-makers who represent your student body and can positively impact the school. STEP 2 Create your school’s video! Make sure to be creative and follow the guidelines. THE VIDEOS – THINGS TO CONSIDER: Below is helpful information to think about when creating your school videos: Videos MUST be 90 seconds or less. Schools can submit one video per month for the duration of the program. The videos can include as many students, teachers, staff, etc. as you would like but only a maximum of 15 can be recognized as the production team. Don’t make this a “one-group” video. Be representative of your student body. Focus on all aspects of student programs and activities. Don’t single out ONLY athletics. Use the program in coordination with your school leadership team. Don’t work in isolation. Don’t tell us what you think SCHOOL PRIDE is…Show us! When developing your video ideas, consider themes such as leadership, culture and community, authenticity, generosity, perseverance, etc. Be creative and think outside of the box! These videos are a great way to highlight YOUR SCHOOL. They will be shared on Cam’s social media, his website, and shown to community leaders. Make your school stand out! You never know what could come from it. STEP 3 Upload your school’s video to YouTube. Include the title of your school and Cam Newton contest in the title of your video. Include a link to your video on your submission form and e-mail it to john.concelman@cms.k12.nc.us. If you have questions or concerns on how to share your video please contact John Concelman at the above address (or call 980-343-2748). The video can be resubmitted in a later deadline. TIMELINE: Oct. 15 Nov. 15 Dec. 15 Jan. 30 Feb. 28 March 27 First video submission deadline Second video submission deadline Third video submission deadline Fourth video submission deadline Fifth video submission deadline Sixth (and final) video submission deadline For additional information or questions please contact Kim Beal, Director of the CNF or John Concelman CMS. kim@cam1newton.com 704-714-5968 Or John.concelman@cms.k12.nc.us 980-343-2748 On behalf of CMS and the CNF, we strongly encourage all schools to participate in this program. This is a great way to highlight your school to the many, many community members who will be watching the outcomes of this new program. Cam Newton Foundation School Pride Video Application NOTE: This form should accompany your school’s video submission. Upload your school’s video to YouTube (each month) and e-mail this form, along with a link to your video, to john.concelman@cms.k12.nc.us.
