Cost-saving & Performance
at the service of your Business
In today’s world office life takes up a large part of the day and the workload never cesses
to increase with the rhythm of technological and telecommunications developments.
In order to avoid excess stress and tension within the company, a well-developed
lighting solution will have a direct impact on the physical and emotional health of the
workforce. In fact, the level and quality of lighting have a clear influence on the feeling
of well-being. Well adapted lighting favours performance, concentration, efficiency
and productivity… A happy employee is a more productive employee!
Lighting transmits the image of your company and its identity. It is important to design
it correctly. Lighting is an integral part of the architecture and interior design of the
premises and allows the creation of specific ambiances with a personal style and
develops the image of your company in the eyes of employees and customers. It helps
create welcoming and friendly spaces with a good working environment. It expresses,
in a discrete or colourful, dynamic or soothing manner, your message and your values.
A true image enhancement tool, it reflects the nature of your business.
However, lighting costs remain a major budget for building management. Lucibel, an
expert in LED lighting, proposes ever more efficient and innovative solutions. Lucibel

5 advantages
of Lucibel LED technology
The
Advantage n°1: Working life
The long working life of a LED (50,000h, i.e. more than 16 years for an office) gives it a considerable advantage compared to other
technologies: maintenance interventions are rare or almost non-existent! However, attention must be paid to ensure the LED components
are used under correct temperature conditions in order not to negatively affect the working life. Lucibel guarantees the maximum
working life of its products when the LEDs are used at 70% of their operating temperature range.

Advantage n°2: High lighting efficiency
LEDs provide an output (2013) between 70 and 150 lm/W. This efficiency is far greater than that of other existing technologies and
enables reduction of consumption with subsequent reduction of the electricity bill.

Advantage n°3: A colour rendering index compliant to needs
The colour rendering index (CRI) of a light source indicates its capacity to faithfully render the colours (taking sunlight as a reference) of
an item illuminated by this source. In the case of a LED, the IRC is better for warm colour temperatures than for cold colour temperatures.
The IRC value is important for applications requiring good colour rendering (product marketing, design…), where an IRC greater than 85
is necessary. For office applications, an IRC between 75 et 85 remains however acceptable. Even though it was not possible a few years
ago, today some LEDs use specific luminophores to attain an IRC of 97, i.e an excellent colour rendering.
The CRI
of various technologies:
LED
Fluorescent tube or fluo-compact lamp
Incandescent lamp
60 to 97
60 to 97
100
Advantage n°4: A pure light
The light emitted by a LED is extremely well adapted to the human eye. There are neither infrared (IR), nor ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted
and our products are certified safe for human eyes and skin tissue. Lucibel products may therefore be used with no long-term negative
effects on individuals exposed!
Advantage n°5: Instantaneous illumination and good variation
Contrary to fluo-compact lamps in particular, LED lamps illuminate immediately and numerous on/off switching cycles do not decrease its
working life. Light variation is compatible with LED products provided the correct power supply unit is used.

How to
illuminate your spaces?
Reception area
To enhance the image of your company and define its identity from the very first instant,
the lighting in your reception area, whether general (minimum 300 lux required) or
accentuation (500 lux over the reception desk), should emit warm or natural tones and
be designed with attention. The first impression often remains anchored in the memory
of your visitors. This area must be welcoming and comfortable and enable visitors to find
their way. The lighting remains on permanently in this area and functions on average
12 hours a day. Our efficient and well-adapted LED solutions will allow you to achieve
considerable energy savings. We recommend our LED downlights or panels for general
lighting in this area. Accentuation lighting may be used to isolate the reception desk
and give it a confidential aspect, to highlight decorative objects, identify the waiting
room or area, or draw the attention of visitors to strategic points… Our suspended LED
panels or swivel LED spotlights are perfect for these purposes. Furthermore, the choice of
colour temperature for your lighting is very important for creation of an ambiance which
corresponds to you: Warm tones for a friendly and soothing ambiance, natural tones for a
dynamic and active ambiance.
Tip
Profit from natural lighting! Thanks to
the installation of a lighting management
system, you are able to automatically
regulate the level of lighting according
to the quantity of natural light available.
This ensures a constant level of lighting
throughout the day (thus respecting
regulations) and offers further energy
savings!
Partitioned offices
Favouring concentration and tranquillity, partitioned offices may also create a feeling of
isolation. As natural light is often less present than in more open spaces, well designed
lighting is essential to insuring the visual comfort and well-being of occupants, as well as
to provide a homogenous lighting ambiance.
The level of lighting must be sufficient (an average of 500 lux on the work surface) and
the UGR (glare rate) below 19. The lighting installation must avoid the reflection of light
on the monitors. Depending on use of the space, the colour temperature of your lighting
also has a role to play: give priority to warm tones (2800K) for a soothing ambiance and
neutral tones (4000K) for a more dynamic ambiance.
Tip
To reduce costs even more, avoid unnecessary
power consumption! The intelligent lighting
management systems work for you: presence
detectors, luminosity detectors… Adjust the
level of lighting as required!
Non-partitioned offices (open space)
An interaction and communication area, the open space offices must allow employees to
accomplish their tasks in an appropriate and friendly lighting ambiance. The functional
lighting of these spaces may be combined with more specific, individual lighting allowing
each employee to adjust the lighting to suit them, thus rendering the working environment
more pleasant and efficient.
In accordance with valid standards (EN 12464-1), the level of lighting required is
approximately 500 lux at the workstation and approximately 300 lux in surrounding areas.
In order to guarantee optimum visual comfort for all persons concerned, the UGR (glare
rate) of your lighting must be below 19. It is also important to pay particular attention to
positioning in order to avoid excessive reflection on monitors resulting in a glare effect.
Our LED solutions, flush-mounted or suspended (LED downlights, panels), are perfectly
suitable for the illumination of your open spaces. When combined with presence and/
or luminosity detection systems, these lamps offer a considerable saving in energy costs.
Tip
Customise your lighting! Thanks to
installation of an individually controlled
light variation system, you are able to
adapt the level of lighting in a specific
zone according to your requirements. A
customised lighting system will increase
work efficiency!

How to
illuminate your spaces?
Boardroom
In this strategic zone where decisions are made and brainstorming sessions are held,
communication is essential. In order to guarantee the visual comfort, concentration,
listening and participation of your employees, regardless of the type of meeting held,
installation of variable lighting with an associated management system is strongly
recommended. Give priority to abundant, glare-free lighting for meetings requiring
participation and productivity and a gentler, more soothing light for meetings involving
project presentation for example. The level of lighting in a boardroom must be at least
500 lux in order to guarantee maximum visual comfort. Our entire LED range (downlights,
panels, spotlights, strips) is able to meet these requirements.
Tip
Illuminate as you wish! Design your own
lighting system thanks to the installation
of two distinct lighting circuits (general
lighting or ambiance lighting) to adapt
to the current mood or objective of the
meeting!
Corridors and passageways
Necessary to provide access to various rooms, corridors and passageways are simply zones
of passage yet remain heavy energy consumers. We always think of switching the light on
when we need it, but we do not always think of switching it off when we don’t! Sufficient,
homogenous lighting is required (100 lux minimum according to standards) to ensure correct
and safe passage of users. Furthermore, these spaces may be used as a true communication
tool for your company (noticeboards) highlighting its values and mottos (posters, paintings,
decorative items, design and architecture…) when the correct accentuation lighting is used!
We recommend use of our LED panels and LED downlights for general lighting in these
zones and our fixed or swivel LED spotlights for accentuation points. In order to give your
corridors a touch of modernity and colour, you may also consider installation of our LED
strips.
Tip
Illuminate only if you need to! Thanks
to the installation of presence detectors
and timers, the zone is illuminated
automatically when occupied and the
lighting is extinguished when the zone
is empty without resulting in premature
wear of the sources
Car parks
At a time when outdoor parking spaces are become rare, covered car parks are highly
appreciated by your employees. However, the lighting in these zones must be carefully
designed! Indeed, underground or closed spaces could be a source of anxiety for some
people. To help avoid such apprehension, sometimes even fear, it is essential the render
this area safe and welcoming. Appropriate lighting is therefore a necessity. In order to
avoid the “black hole” effect when entering during the daytime, accentuated lighting
will be required (300 lux at floor level is recommended). Inside, sufficient uniform lighting
without shaded zone (75 lux at floor level for driving zones and parking spaces) must allow
the users to easily find available parking spaces, exit their vehicle and walk in the area in
total safety. The walkways require a higher level of luminosity.
The choice of LuciPark, due to its high performances and easy installation, is evident as it
is the best long-lasting solution with a high level of energy efficiency. It will enable you to
reduce energy consumption as well as your impact on the environment.
14
w w w. l u c i b e l .f r
Tip
Economical lighting! When the zone is not
in use, the lighting level may be reduced
automatically and returned to 100%
luminosity as soon as a vehicle arrives.
The intelligent lighting management
systems enable you to achieve a true
reduction in costs!

Standards & regulations
relative to workplace lighting
Labour code
The obligations of business proprietors and main contractors in relation to workplace lighting are indicated in the labour code, in
particular in articles R.4213-1 à R.4213-4 and R.4223-1 to R.4223-11 (created by decree n° 2008-244 of 7 March 2008).
Article R.4223-4 defines the minimum lighting values to be maintained and respected at all points in the workplace.
For example: 40 lux for indoor passageways, 120 lux for workplaces, changing rooms, sanitary facilities…
The lighting level ratio between zones in the same room or with an adjacent room must be between 1 and 5 maximum.
Article R.4223-11 stipulates that the equipment must be easy to maintain. The proprietor must define the maintenance and servicing
tasks and frequency in a document in order to ensure correct operation of the control systems and avoid reduction of the level,
uniformity and balance of lighting to the minimum acceptable values.
Standard NF EN 12464-1:
Workplace interior lighting
The standard indicates the average level of lighting “to be maintained”, i.e. which must be respected regardless of the age of the
installation.
The colour rendering index must be higher than or equal to 80.
The discomfort glare (produced by reflecting surfaces within the field of vision) may be direct or reflected off lights or windows. It is
defined by the glare rate (UGR) which must be 19 maximum for most zones in offices.
The standard recommends installation of a lighting control system in conference rooms and boardrooms.

Standards & regulations
relative to workplace lighting
Order of August 1st, 2006:
Accessibility for physically impaired persons into public facilities
The quality of lighting, artificial or naturel, in indoor or outdoor passageways must be such that the entire length must be illuminated
without visual impairment.
Artificial lighting must guarantee the following minimum lighting values:
•100 lux at all points of indoor horizontal passageways
•150 lux for stairwells and mobile equipment
•50 lux in car parks and covered car parks (attention: in the FAQ section of the site, the minister explains that this is the average
lighting value to be maintained).
If the lighting system is controlled with a timer, extinction must be progressive.
Presence detection must cover the entire area concerned and two adjacent detection zones must overlap.
Lighting elements must be installed in such a way as to avoid direct glare for users when standing or sitting, as well as reflected glare
off signs and noticeboards.
Safety regulations relative to public facilities
Aims of the general conditions (chapter VIII “Lighting”):
• Guarantee easy circulation.
• Guarantee safe and easy evacuation of the public.
• Carry out all relevant safety operations.
Article EC 5 concerns lighting appliances.
Article EC 6 concerns the lighting system design and installation rules whereas articles EC 7 to 15 concern emergency lighting which
remains on or is switched on in case of failure of the normal lighting system.
The standard AFNOR NF X35-103, a voluntarily applied standard, describes the ergonomic principles and a method adopted to define the key
elements of workplace lighting.
The stakes are high as well adapted workplace lighting helps avoid visual fatigue and accidents in relation with inadequate lighting. The level of
lighting must be adapted to the true working conditions to allow execution of tasks under optimum comfort conditions.
For example, the average lighting values must be corrected for persons over the age of 45 (increase the level of lighting) for a visual task
containing details or in the case of hazardous condition.
