Wide-ranging R&D know-how
The R&D team of Valopaa has a wide-range of knowhow, including lighting and optics planning, electronic
and software planning, mechanical planning and
industrial design.
The Valopaa products have been developed on
Valopaa’s own modular product platform. When
developing products and the product platform,
good lighting, high energy efficiency, maintainability,
reliability of the products, suitability to demanding
environments and efficient industrial manufacturing
are of high importance.

LEDs go for the best
Cost efficiency over life cycle
The Valopaa products have been developed to
achieve the most economic cost for the entire life
cycle (usage years) of the product.
The cost efficiency of Valopaa products arises from
low energy usage, virtually nonexistent maintenance
costs, long lifetime and maintainability that stems
from the modular product structure and the ERP
system.
Certified LED luminaires
Valopaa endows all products with a CE marking,
indicating that the products conform with all required
standards. The Valopaa LED module structure
and a selection of the Valopaa luminaires have
been certified by SGS Fimko. In addition, all of the
connection devices in our use have been certified.
Production and cooperation network
The Valopaa production consists of product assembly
and a SMD process. The Valopaa production has
been audited by SGS Fimko, according to official
luminaire production requirements. All manufactured
products are tested in-house before packaging to
ensure the high quality of the delivered products to
our customers. All of Valopaa’s production partners
are ISO9001 certified.
Valopaa uses a comprehensive ERP system. With it,
luminaires and all components used in them can be
traced subsequently.
International research cooperation
Valopaa does research cooperation with VTT Technical
Research Centre of Finland, Aalto University (incl. the
Lighting Lab) and University of Oulu.

High quality, reliable and
long-lasting
The reliability and long lifetime of LED luminaires
are attained by choosing the highest quality of
LEDs, drivers, components and materials, by setting
the stress on them at an appropriate level, and by
designing the structures of the luminaires with taking
heat control into consideration.
Introduction
LED components
There is a myriad of producers of LED components
with varying levels of technical competence. Valopaa
has chosen the LUXEON Rebel LEDs, by Philips
Lumileds, as the LED components used in the VP
LED light series. These LED components have high
energy efficiency, low scale and well-known lumen
depreciation depending on the strain put on the
LEDs, very low percentage of failure, good selection
of available features, e.g. colour temperatures and
binning that stay put over lifecycle, and comprehensive
documentation based on extensive testing. Valopaa
currently uses Philips Lumileds Luxeon Z ES LEDs.
Valopaa luminaires remain competitive, since we
design and manufacture the LED circuit boards
ourselves. We keep a keen eye on the development
of LED technology and whenever components with
improved features appear, we strive to implement these
new LEDs without delay. Presently we have moved
into a new generation of LEDs, with improvements
not only in white LED luminous efficiency, but colour
consistency and rendering as well. Read more from

LED drivers and components
Valopaa uses certified LED drivers that have operating
temperature from -40˚C. Lifetime and reliability data is
available for the drivers. The luminaires are designed
to keep the temperature at low levels to ensure the
specified long lifetime.
Structure of luminaires
Failure rate of LEDs, drivers and all electronics
doubles (on average) when the temperature of the
luminaires increases by 10˚C. Therefore heat control is
an essential factor in reliability of a luminaire.
The Brighter LED

With the Valopaa products, the produced heat is
transferred to the ambient air through the aluminum
structures of the luminaires. Whenever necessary,
drivers are installed separately from the LED structures
in order to obtain the required lifetime. Locating the
driver away from the heat generated by the LEDs,
decreases the temperature of the driver over 20˚C,
thus making the failure interval four times longer than
if the driver was housed in the same structure with the
LEDs.

The mechanical parts of the luminaire are made of
materials, such as aluminum and stainless steel, that
are strong enough, durable against time and hard
environments.
Maintainability
All Valopaa products are based on the same modules,
which are changeable on-site or at depots depending
on the product and the mechanic. The number of
spare parts is low because in many cases different VP
products use the same components and modules.
Every VPM module has a serial number. Essential
features such as colour temperature (bin), lumen
output and optics, are traceable with the serial number
of the LED module, and therefore, the compatibility
of the spare part can be ensured.
Light distribution
In the VP LED luminaires, every LED module has its own optical lens that produces the desired distrubution of
luminous intensity. The Eulumdat files of light distribution can be downloaded from the Valopaa website.

Standard:
VP1001 luminaire series has been developed for urban street and area lighting.
The nice round shape and the wide colour options enable the luminaire to be
used in various surroundings. Installations either on poles, horizontal arma or by
wire hanging.
The power range of VP1001 product family is from 40W up to 70W.
VP1001 LED street luminaire is also available with the Valopaa intelligent
lighting system, where the quantity of light can be adjusted.

The installation angle can be adjusted by 5° steps with the help of a hinge. The VP1301 product family includes
luminaires with the light amounts ranging up to 15200 lumen. The VP1301 is also suitable to area lighting with

The VP2101 LED ceiling luminaire has been designed to be used in lighting of e.g. underpasses of walkways
and roads, undersides of bridges, parking garages, canopies and industrial buildings. The luminaire is recessed,
i.e. it is mounted with only the front panel and the light emitting lens of the LED modules are left visible under
the ceiling structure. All the other parts of the luminaire are inside the ceiling structure. The LED modules,
driver and the front cover are changeable.

Flush mounting frame
The VP2221 LED luminaires can be installed to the underside of bridges with this flush mounting frame at new
bridge building sites. With the aid of this installation case, the electrical tubing will be easier and wooden
molds for the luminaires are no longer needed. The luminaires can be easily installed into the case after the
bridge building is finished.
The frame has knockouts for M25 pipe fitting on each side, in order to enable tubing in a simple way. The
package contains two pieces of pipe fittings. Available in three sizes, suitable for each version of VP2221 LED
luminaire.

The product family of VP3111 LED spotlights has been developed for spotlighting and lighting pedestrian
routes. The VPM1 LED module is used in the VP3111, thus making all Valopaa lenses available. By choosing

The new valoT (VP8110) LED light bollard series is a tool for creative design in outdoor lighting. With these
bollard luminaires you can create effective and constant lighting to passageways and highlight the trunks and

VP9205 LED replacement unit has been developed to be installed inside

INTELLIGENT SOLUTIONS
The Valopaa intelligent LED lighting system increases the energy efficiency of LED lighting further still.
Moreover, the illumination can be adjusted to fit the environment precisely and be more pleasant with the
intelligent control.
The average input power of intelligent luminaires is often only half of their full input power. The lighting can be
controlled with sensors to meet the prevailing need for light. Motion sensors can detect if there are e.g. people
at the target area, requiring more light, and ambient light sensors can measure the amount of light needed at
that moment.
The system works wirelessly via radio communication. It is easily adaptable for lighting of streets, outdoor areas,
petrol stations, industrial and commercial estates, and most other lighting sites. The range of lcompatible
luminaires with the intelligent system is expanded continuously.
Intelligent solutions
Valopaa´s intelligent LED lighting system:

The Valopaa Intelligent LED Lighting System is a modular system platform for safe, befitting and flexible
intelligent lighting, also enabling possible future expansions and modification needs.
The system can be expanded according to the need of the customer, starting from intelligent LED luminaires,
to sets of luminaires, control sensors and master units controlling all devices, to comprehensive remotely
controlled modern intelligent solutions.
The intelligent LED lighting system can be expanded in stages. Intelligent luminaires form the basis of the
system. One can start by purchasing just the luminaires. Features, e.g. Master unit, different sensor and remote
controlling can be added to the system later depending on necessity and investments.
An intelligent Valopaa LED luminaire (i) has an electrical identity,
intelligence and a two-way wireless radio connection, which
controls the luminaire, the amount of light and, furthermore,
enables developing new features during its lifespan. Some
luminaires also have integrated sensors (is).
2. level - Intelligent network
Intelligent networks consist of intelligent wirelessly
communicating luminaires and sensors controlling
the lighting. The luminaires adjust the lighting
according to set parameters and sensory control.
The sensor may be placed either in the luminaire or
the connecting or separate device. The amount of

Master Unit
The master unit is used with the intelligent lighting system of Valopaa Ltd. It masters the lighting
control according to prespecified settings, which can be changed with a computer that is connected to the
master unit via a web application.
Inside the sturdy aluminium case of the master unit we find an industrial Linux-computer, lighting control
software, a real-time clock with guaranteed battery life beyond expected lifespan and two-way secured
wireless connections to the luminaires, sensors, the computer, smartphones, the Internet and a wired Ethernet
connection.

Intelligent multisensor
The functionality of Valopaa´s wireless intelligent multisensor is chosen according to need: It can be either a
motion detector, standard light sensor or a photoresistor. The parameters and functionality are altered and
governed by the master unit. The communication between the master and the sensor is wireless.
Intelligent solutions

All Valopaa LED luminaires contain LED modules, designed and manufactured by us. The modules and
components are developed with our own product platform and our products have a wide range of applications.
This increases the reliability of our products, since the structures and modules are tested in all kinds of
conditions.
The product platform includes LED modules, drivers and components of the intelligent lighting system. The
LED modules are FI approved. All of our drivers and connecting devices are certified.
The VPM LED modules can be used in a wide variety of projects. Customised products can be developed
quickly with Valopaa´s product platform. Furthermore, architects and lighting designers can design new
luminaires based on Valopaa LED modules. The developed luminaires may be produced in cooperation with

The VPM LED modules have been developed for street luminaires, but they are suited also for a wide variety
of lighting needs both indoors and outdoors. The LED module structure is dust and water proof. Hence they
can be used in all kind of locations above water level with sufficient ventilation. The LED modules have a wide
array of use from spotlighting to general lighting – we need simply to choose the right optics for the right light
distribution and the correct fastening for the module into the luminaire or other target.

The VPM5 LED modules have been developed to be retrofitted or used essentially in any luminaire. Due its own
cooling ribs the heat management is taken care of and the LED modules can be used for many applications
indoor and outdoor.

Street and road lighting
Solid White Light for Streets and Roads
Valopaa LED luminaires are an excellent solution for street lighting. Our luminaires are easily maintainable,
small, light in weight and beautifully designed. The luminaires do not collect dirt or snow. Most importantly,
our luminaires produce solid and unflickering white light, which also benefits the operation of traffic and safety
cameras.
The lifecycle costs of Valopaa´s LED luminaires are low, due to high energy efficiency and durability. The
maintainability is endorsed by the fact that all of our products are based on the same product platform. The
reliability data of our products stands to the disposal to all of our clients.
The product range of Valopaa also includes luminaires for underpasses and bridge undersides, as well as
spotlights and floodlights for illuminating road surroundings. The main targets for our street light luminaires are
streets and roads, city centres, pedestrian paths, underpasses, parking areas and parks.
The VP1301 LED Street Luminaire has the approval of the Finnish Transport Agency. The same LED modules
and components are used in all Valopaa luminaires.
Case: Kuokkala Bridge
Kuokkala Bridge is one of the best-known landmarks of Jyväskylä. Valopaa LED
luminaires replaced old high-power sodium lamps in the summer of 2013. The
energy consumption of the bridge dropped to 25%, and simultaneously the
quality of the light improved. Instead of the old yellow light, the bridge is now
illuminated by pure and white light.
Applications
The street and road lighting is controllable with the Valopaa Intelligent Lighting System. It cuts the energy
consumption in half, which significantly shortens the payback time.

Bridge Lighting with Excellent Protection against Vandalism
The Valopaa LED bridge luminaires have been installed into hundreds of underpasses and bridge undersides
around Finland. The luminaires are energy efficient, easy to install and very durable. Our luminaires are
protected against vandalism and the specially designed optics to underpasses ensure pleasant and energy
efficient lighting.
The Valopaa product range includes recessed and surface-mounted versions of bridge luminaires, in different
power versions. Vandalism shields are available for low structures to protect against vandalism. We also offer a

past shed light on the cyclists and the pedestrians.

Petrol station lighting
Get a Grip on the Energy Consumption of Petrol stations
Valopaa LED luminaires are an outstanding choice for petrol station lighting. LED lighting decreases energy
costs and creates pleasant customer experiences. Our solutions are equally suitable to brand new and older
petrol stations. The lighting solutions have been developed in close cooperation with petrol station chains and
contractors.
Particularly the intelligent LED lighting systems provide plenty of advantages to petrol station lighting.
Intelligent systems can be set up to control the lighting at fuel meters, and also the yard, the canopies, the car
wash and service halls.
The Valopaa Intelligent LED Lighting System adjusts the lighting level at the fuel meters field according to
customer stream and the surrounding circumstances. E.g. in the north, the lighting level is higher during the
dark and rainy autumn than during the winter, when the ground is covered with white snow, reflecting the light.
The system is also detects movement in the area. The lighting is dim when there is no movement, however, as a
person or vehicle enters the area, the lights brighten up.
Case Shell Esloo, Netherlands
The canopy of Shell petrol station in Elsloo city is now been light up by Valopaa
LED lighting. During summer of 2012 Valopaa delivered an intelligent lighting
system to a petrol station located in Southern Holland.

Valopaa luminaires meet the demands for most area lighting requirements – be that parks, parking facilities or
precise spotlighting. By choosing the right optics we attain the desired lighting.
Valopaa LED luminaires have unique design. Luminaires of the same design family have a variety of different
installation options. Hence different installations, e.g. to lighting poles, walls or columns, can be chosen
according to the installation site and needs. The VP1302 LED fixtures directs light from one pole to two
directions, which is useful e.g. at parking areas.
The Valopaa Intelligent LED Lighting System is very functional when applied to area lighting. The lighting is
maintained exactly as desired at any given moment and energy is saved.

Case Finavia Oulunsalo Airport
During the Oulu Airport reparation and enlargement project, the parking lot
and its lighting were renewed as well. Since the end of 2010, the P1-parking
area, located directly in front of the terminal building, has been illuminated with
Valopaa’s LED light fixtures.

Valopaa products illuminate facades and courtyards creatively. Certain objects or details deserve also to be
highlighted.
The colour of light and the colour temperature are key ingredients in accent and spotlighting and lighting of
facades. All colour temperatures can therefore be specified for the Valopaa LED modules. We guarantee that
LED modules with the exact same colour temperatures as the original will be available as spare parts years
down the road. Standard Valopaa LED luminaires have neutral white 4000K LEDs.

The renovators of the Raatti Stadium in Oulu were faced with a small surprise. A
magnificent wall was built around the stadium area, and it was to be illuminated
with special vandalism safe fluorescent light fixtures. However, the production of
these so called wall washers had been discontinued. Another solution needed to
be found. A test installation proved that the Valopaa LED luminaires were spot on

Good Exercise Requires Good Lighting
The Valopaa LED luminaires are brilliant for sport facilities and tracks. Our product range includes luminaires for
ice hockey rinks, swimming halls, skiing and jogging routes, horse riding centres and downhill skiing slopes.
LED lighting brings white light to athletes in an energy efficient and sustainable manner. E.g. old 125W mercury
luminaires can in most cases be replaced with 22W LED luminaire. The aptitude and the energy efficiency of
lighting can be increased significantly with the Valopaa Intelligent LED Lighting System.

Retrofit Projects: Modernisation of Luminaires
We do not generally want to replace luminaires that are historical or designed by an architect, although energy
efficiency requirements would call for more modern and efficient technologies. However, the solution is easy –
Valopaa retrofit projects. New LED technology is installed inside the old luminaires. The projects are easy to
implement with Valopaa´s modular product platform.
To begin a retrofit project, information on the model of the luminaire and a picture is needed. Later on a
sample luminaire is required for the design process, all to validate the technical choices. The design and
production of the retrofit product takes about two months. According to customer needs Valopaa will produce
a sample luminaire to ensure that installations and light distributions will meet all requirements. The contractor
installs the luminaires according Valopaa guidelines and instructions.

Case Orion Pharmaceutical factory
The outdoor lighting of Orion´s pharmaceutical manufacturing site
in Turku, Finland, was modernised in January 2012. The project was
exceptional because the casing, the look of the luminaire, and the
lighting infrastructure were fully preserved. Installing Valopaa´s LED
modules inside the classic dome-shaped Cupola luminaires was the
solution.

The operating voltage of standard products is 230VAC/50Hz, and protection class I.
Several of the luminaires are available also for operating voltage of 110VAC, and for
different control systems, such as Dali or 1-10V control. Ask more from our sales team!
IP44
The IP class of the luminaires is announced with this symbol. The stated IP class is
always for installed luminaires. Valopaa’s LED modules are always at least IP65, as
most drivers that are used in the VP LED luminaires.
The standard versions of all VP LED luminaires have LED components with 4000K color
temperature of light, which is neutral white. Other color temperatures are available as an
option, with limitations from the LED manufacturer.
It is also possible to use color LEDS, e.g. for atmospheric impressions. The color LEDs are
available for surcharge, with limitations from the LED manufacturer. Colors available in the

aluminium. The standard color is indicated with this symbol,
but other colors (in RAL), as well as other finish gloss levels and
structures, are available for surcharge.
The casing for all VP LED light fixtures is made of aluminium. This symbol indicates that the
casing of the luminaire is anodised, thereby the color of the product is aluminium.
This symbol indicates that the luminaire is grounded.
F
The F symbol indicates that the luminaire can be directly mounted on a normally
flammable surface.
