Wide-ranging R&D know-how The R&D team of Valopaa has a wide-range of knowhow, including lighting and optics planning, electronic and software planning, mechanical planning and industrial design. The Valopaa products have been developed on Valopaa’s own modular product platform. When developing products and the product platform, good lighting, high energy efficiency, maintainability, reliability of the products, suitability to demanding environments and efficient industrial manufacturing are of high importance. Introduction WEGE-LICHT/Valopaa LEDs go for the best Cost efficiency over life cycle The Valopaa products have been developed to achieve the most economic cost for the entire life cycle (usage years) of the product. The cost efficiency of Valopaa products arises from low energy usage, virtually nonexistent maintenance costs, long lifetime and maintainability that stems from the modular product structure and the ERP system. Certified LED luminaires Valopaa endows all products with a CE marking, indicating that the products conform with all required standards. The Valopaa LED module structure and a selection of the Valopaa luminaires have been certified by SGS Fimko. In addition, all of the connection devices in our use have been certified. Production and cooperation network The Valopaa production consists of product assembly and a SMD process. The Valopaa production has been audited by SGS Fimko, according to official luminaire production requirements. All manufactured products are tested in-house before packaging to ensure the high quality of the delivered products to our customers. All of Valopaa’s production partners are ISO9001 certified. Valopaa uses a comprehensive ERP system. With it, luminaires and all components used in them can be traced subsequently. International research cooperation Valopaa does research cooperation with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Aalto University (incl. the Lighting Lab) and University of Oulu. 5 High quality, reliable and long-lasting The reliability and long lifetime of LED luminaires are attained by choosing the highest quality of LEDs, drivers, components and materials, by setting the stress on them at an appropriate level, and by designing the structures of the luminaires with taking heat control into consideration. Introduction LED components There is a myriad of producers of LED components with varying levels of technical competence. Valopaa has chosen the LUXEON Rebel LEDs, by Philips Lumileds, as the LED components used in the VP LED light series. These LED components have high energy efficiency, low scale and well-known lumen depreciation depending on the strain put on the LEDs, very low percentage of failure, good selection of available features, e.g. colour temperatures and binning that stay put over lifecycle, and comprehensive documentation based on extensive testing. Valopaa currently uses Philips Lumileds Luxeon Z ES LEDs. Valopaa luminaires remain competitive, since we design and manufacture the LED circuit boards ourselves. We keep a keen eye on the development of LED technology and whenever components with improved features appear, we strive to implement these new LEDs without delay. Presently we have moved into a new generation of LEDs, with improvements not only in white LED luminous efficiency, but colour consistency and rendering as well. Read more from http://www.valopaa.com/product_technology/leds. LED drivers and components Valopaa uses certified LED drivers that have operating temperature from -40˚C. Lifetime and reliability data is available for the drivers. The luminaires are designed to keep the temperature at low levels to ensure the specified long lifetime. Structure of luminaires Failure rate of LEDs, drivers and all electronics doubles (on average) when the temperature of the luminaires increases by 10˚C. Therefore heat control is an essential factor in reliability of a luminaire. The Brighter LED 6 With the Valopaa products, the produced heat is transferred to the ambient air through the aluminum structures of the luminaires. Whenever necessary, drivers are installed separately from the LED structures in order to obtain the required lifetime. Locating the driver away from the heat generated by the LEDs, decreases the temperature of the driver over 20˚C, thus making the failure interval four times longer than if the driver was housed in the same structure with the LEDs. Maintainability All Valopaa products are based on the same modules, which are changeable on-site or at depots depending on the product and the mechanic. The number of spare parts is low because in many cases different VP products use the same components and modules. Every VPM module has a serial number. Essential features such as colour temperature (bin), lumen output and optics, are traceable with the serial number of the LED module, and therefore, the compatibility of the spare part can be ensured. Light distribution In the VP LED luminaires, every LED module has its own optical lens that produces the desired distrubution of luminous intensity. Motion sensors can detect if there are e.g. people at the target area, requiring more light, and ambient light sensors can measure the amount of light needed at that moment. The system works wirelessly via radio communication. It is easily adaptable for lighting of streets, outdoor areas, petrol stations, industrial and commercial estates, and most other lighting sites. However, the solution is easy – Valopaa retrofit projects. New LED technology is installed inside the old luminaires. The projects are easy to implement with Valopaa´s modular product platform. To begin a retrofit project, information on the model of the luminaire and a picture is needed. Later on a sample luminaire is required for the design process, all to validate the technical choices. The design and production of the retrofit product takes about two months. IP44 The IP class of the luminaires is announced with this symbol. The stated IP class is always for installed luminaires. Valopaa’s LED modules are always at least IP65, as most drivers that are used in the VP LED luminaires.
