DESIGN + PERFORMANCE THE HYDREL EDGE Hydrel was launched with a mission: to make the most reliable underwater lighting the world has ever seen. This was no small task, since water is a hostile environment for lighting. But we accomplished it, and in the ensuing decades as we’ve moved up onto land, the Company has continued to build its expanding lines of outdoor lighting products the same way. Rugged. Impenetrable. Uncommonly reliable. One thing is certain: Hydrel products are engineered to outperform anything on the market. It is our DNA, and customers couldn’t be happier. They know we will stand behind our products and consistently deliver the results they’re looking for. HYDREL 1 One objective: The world’s best engineered outdoor lighting products. For over 40 years the organization has never strayed from its singular objective. Hydrel conducts the most rigorous testing in the industry, replicating the environments our products will be exposed to, and then builds those products to exceed demanding criteria. Moreover, we focus our product development efforts on breakthrough technology and engineering. For example, in 1984 our Sunlight swimming pool light incorporated new techniques to seal the lamp and electrical components to ensure zero water penetration. This superior sealing and use of the then-new MR16 lamp propelled us to the forefront of the industry segment. By the early 90s, we were first to satisfy a wide range of concerns in in-grade lighting, giving the lighting community and building owners reliable, long-lasting uplighting tools to illuminate their projects. OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA Hydrel provided outdoor lighting design and highperformance luminaires to light four impressive structures for the Prime Minister of Malaysia — the office, residence, guest compounds, and national mosque. Since that time we’ve developed a unique wet-dry fitting that is still the only solution to satisfy National Electric Code standards for zones surrounding bodies of water. Our 7000 Series modular floodlights were the first to offer precision light and glare control, easily altered distributions, internal color filters, and a precision taper lock knuckle that remains solidly in place after aiming. LEFT HYDREL 3 In so many ways, Hydrel has answered the needs – and solved the problems – of lighting designers, installers, and owners. However, we can’t claim all of the credit. Our close collaboration with well-known architects, designers, developers and building owners has drawn us into the toughest of outdoor lighting challenges and led us to significant design breakthroughs. Hydrel has always worked closely with customers and their professional resources to meet special requirements. Most lighting insiders know: If your project is easy, Hydrel is a fine resource. If your project is difficult, Hydrel is the only resource. Such collaboration has resulted in unique solutions for lighting the spectacular fountains and exterior architecture of major theme parks around the world. Groundbreaking work was also accomplished in this fashion for the Trump Tower in New York, and for numerous high-profile projects up and down the Las Vegas strip. When the developer of the Mirage Hotel and Casino wanted a graceful daytime fountain to convert on cue into a spewing volcano at night, Hydrel provided color application, interface with pyrotechnics, and fixture on-off sequencing to enable this effect. At Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, we blended our exclusive wet-dry technology with special color treatments to help simulate the raging gun battle between pirate ships. The Dead Sea Hyatt chose Hydrel for exterior lighting because of our superior product performance and longevity in highly corrosive environments. Today, Hydrel is the only U.S. company maintaining global certification for a fully-diversified line of outdoor lighting products. This means that lighting designers handling multiple projects in New York, Buenos Aires, Tokyo – or anywhere – can satisfy all local codes and requirements. HYDREL 7 IN-GRADE LIGHTING: THE REVOLUTION. It began as a simple idea: to offer in-ground landscape lighting in pre-sealed watertight modules, separately encapsulating lamp, ballast and connectors, so that water penetration and condensation would cease to be a problem. Once Over a 24-month period, the concept was developed to prototype stage, then tested and fine tuned. It employed advanced seals developed for lighting, and added dry air purging during the sealing process refined and brought to underwater at the factory. Moisture had no chance of entering – not even during as this process would occur in a clean, dry environment. market, this innovation relamping, The unique modular approach reduced installation costs by 50%, and critical components from physical abuse during construction. revolutionized in-grade protected Ongoing maintenance fell to an absolute minimum. Smaller, more efficient lamps, precision reflectors and optically active lighting worldwide. lenses were also introduced with the innovative 9000 Series, setting new standards for exterior lighting. Interchangeable reflector modules allowed easy modification of light distributions for the first time in in-grade lighting. The advent of our patented modular in-grade package spurred high growth in the category, propelling Hydrel ahead of all competition in quality and technology. Today, Hydrel’s M9000 Series delivers further advancements such as lower lens operating temperatures, and the ability to aim fixtures from the outside. The M9000 Series also includes the world’s first 400-watt HID performance in-grade luminaire, providing the industry with a phenomenal tool for challenging floodlighting applications. It’s no wonder Hydrel in-grade products are increasingly selected for entertainment, theme park, hospitality and other high-performance applications around the world. LOW LEVEL AREA FOUNTAIN FLOOD BUILDING MOUNTED IN-GRADE ACCENT SWIMMING POOL A new century brings fresh opportunities to express Hydrel’s underlying belief: outdoor luminaires should be made to survive years in hostile environments. As a matter of course, we go to extremes to keep moisture and humidity out. The same sealing construction techniques developed for underwater products are inherent in virtually all Hydrel outdoor lighting. Our fixtures are noticeably heavier than competitors’, because of rugged materials and construction. Where other manufacturers use galvanized steel, we insist on bronze, stainless steel, and exotic polymers. We’re equally committed to lighting performance, with a plethora of advanced optical packages available to create a wide variety of lighting effects. Combining today’s smaller, more efficient lamps with precision reflectors, we achieve photometric performance seldom seen in outdoor lighting – a soft, uniform illumination that is noticeably superior. Whether spot, flood, or wallwash, we put more high-quality light where you want it. Lighting performance is so impressive that fewer fixtures are generally needed to accomplish the desired effect. This can add up to considerable cost savings. Hydrel in-grade products satisfy an extraordinary range of lighting needs, spanning from 35 to 400 watts. Interchangeable, optically active lenses make our unique “twist-of-the-wrist” aiming easier. A myriad of accessories such as louvers, glare shields and filters allow further control of light and color. With Hydrel floodlights, the focus is on beam and glare control to assure the most efficient possible distribution of light, with close attention paid to dark sky preservation. Hydrel is also at the forefront in providing color filters and lamps to achieve dramatic effects on exterior architecture and landscaping. A wide choice of accent lighting offers versatile solutions for a diversity of exterior applications. Presented in elegant styles, materials and finishes, they encompass virtually all lamp types, wattages, voltages and light distributions. Meanwhile landscape, area, underwater, and wet-dry zone lighting products by Hydrel continue to exceed industry standards for performance and durability. And the result of such consistent, fanatical pursuit of quality? Loyal customers – people who agree that Hydrel products are well worth the investment, delivering considerable savings as years go by. HYDREL 11 PROBLEM SOLVING COUNTS. With so many outdoor lighting options available from Hydrel, it is important that we converse regularly with our customers – assuring that every criterion is met, every lighting problem solved. Each business day we’re engaged with designers, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, project managers – addressing issues, answering questions, offering technical counsel. As a result, lighting professionals realize the effects they visualized... and we remain aware of their challenges and concerns, helping us to continually refine our leading-edge products. Hydrel is in the lighting solutions business. We back up our products with ideas, expertise, and creative problem-solving. This may take the form of application recommendations, technical consultation, or responding quickly with product samples and mock-ups. Other times it means modifying an existing product to meet a specific need, or collaborating to develop a completely new custom design. Want your fixture to resemble a theatrical light, or an ancient nautical fixture, for that matter? Hydrel can, and will, make it happen. There are occasions, too, when Hydrel’s project management experience is called for, due to the scope of a project, or the difficulty of the challenge. Moving beyond our traditional role as lighting manufacturer, we’ll work closely with customers, calling in resources to assure all aspects are well orchestrated and executed. New designs available from Hydrel today – and others in development – offer singular visual appeal by day and renowned Hydrel performance at night. Hydrel has always been the “tough environment” lighting company. It’s no wonder. We earned our reputation the hard way — under water. And we excelled next with in-grade solutions, where the surroundings are only a fraction more hospitable. The focus has been on night lights. Conveniently hidden by day, spectacular when the sun sets. These high-performance systems continue to define Hydrel, remaining at the heart of our offering. However, in recent years architectural flood lights, accent lights, and specialized lighting designs have brought Hydrel out into full view. Which leads us to the next significant advance in broadening our reputation — the launch of a completely innovative approach to site lighting design. Our objective is to develop a comprehensive range of outdoor luminaires integrated by singular design signatures. As this concept comes to life, architects and lighting designers will be equipped, for the first time, to realize a high level of aesthetic continuity across all segments of site lighting. PERFORMANCE ABOVE Bisecting geometric shapes articulate a new vision in building mounted perimeter lighting. Hydrel’s new G2TM EDGE, PLATE and BLOCK give designers remarkably versatile tools to highlight or blend into the architecture by day and illuminate it at night.
