So much chaos, so much hatred, so many lives lost—it is hard to think about something positive. When I thought about that, my thoughts turned to music and how we often remember the wordsfromthe first line of the song but not verse three or four so I am going to try to write the rest of this with words from hymns. This is my Father's world, o let me ne'er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet. This is my Father's world, the battle is not done. Jesus who died shall be satisfied, and earth and heaven be one. (This Is My Father's World). Then I'll dread not the future, and fear not the foe, I am safe in His keeping wherever I go; for no soul that has trusted Him will He forget, For He never has failed me yet. I have proven Him true, what He says He will do, He never has failed me yet. (He Never Has Failed Me Yet). Give me a faithful heart, likeness to Thee, that each departing day henceforth may see some work of love begun, some deed of kindness done, some wanderer sought and won, something for Thee. (Something For Jesus). Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide, and run not before Him, whatever betide.. .In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, and looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word. (Take Time To Be Holy). Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world's golden shore, from each idol that would keep us, saying "Christian, love Me more." (Jesus Calls Us) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Hold o'er my being absolute sway! Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see, Christ only, always, living in me! (Have Thine Own Way Lord). Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine, nor ever murmur nor repine, content whatever lot I see, since 'tis my God that leadeth me! He leadeth me, He leadeth me, by His own hand He leadeth me: His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth me. (He Leadeth Me). Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing, eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King! The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find. None other is so loving, so good and kind. He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! (He Lives). Like a mighty army moves the Church of God; brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod; we are not divided; all one body we, one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. (Onward Christian Soldiers). All you will need He will provide, God will take care of you; nothing you ask will be denied, God will take care of you. God will take care of you, through every day, o'er all the way; He will take care of you, God will take care of you. (God Will Take Care Of You) May these words of old give us strength for today as we walk this journey together. Can you come up with something "catchy"? HIS LOVE FAMILY RESOURCES requests donations to help pay off their mortgage by the end of the year. Someone has come forward who will match donations up to half the $63,000 owed. If the mortgage is paid off this year there would be $6000 more every year to put toward pantry supplies and operating costs. His Love would be debt free and use all money directly for ministry. If you say YES, just send n whatever God would have you give and note that it is for the building match fund. UMW MISSIONS AT WORK Our UMW has been busy with a number of different mission projects. Pill bottles filled with coins can be turned in at anytime. This money goes to support a local need. Don't forget the "Blessing Boxes" or Heifer Project Program. Boxes are available in the Fellowship Hall and are due back at the end of November. Again this fall we're filing boxes for our college students. These are made up of items for personal use, snacks, games, etc. We have 4 girls and 2 boys. We want to send the boxes out in September. A new project is our Health Boxes to be given out locally in emergencies. These boxes consist of wash clothes, towels, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, combs, etc. Our goal is to have 10 boxes on hand. If you're interested in contributing to any of these projects, bring your gifts to church and we will be happy to accept them. Sharon Lantz, UMW Mission Chairperson LABOR DAY THOUGHTS There is a deep insight in the words of Genesis that tell of the Lord planting a garden in Eden. Then "the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it "(Genesis 2:15). God intended for people to have meaningful work. "The earth is the Lord's," as the psalmist says, but God has turned the care of the earth over to us. Think of this beautiful world as God's gift to us. Think also of God's intention that we be good stewards of the earth. It is in protecting the environment, in conserving earth's natural resources, using the fruits of the earth wisely to "work and take care o f what belongs to the Lord. To Adam, God said in essence, " I have a job for you to do. You are my garden deeper. You will find meaning in life by doing the work I need for you to do." On Labor Day we would do well to recall that work, meant to be fulfilling and satisfying, should help provide us a reason for living. Wise Ben Franklin said, "The man who achieves makes many mistakes, but he never makes the biggest mistake of all: doing nothing." i i The Mio United Methodist Church will have a Soup & Pie Supper on Thurs. Sept. 15th. Delicious homemade soups and pies will be served. Donations will benefit the Mission's program. • • Members of our Community are welcome to join us.
