Workover / Completion Systems
. TTS Tubing Patch Straddle Pack Installation
(Utilizing the TTS Retrievable Thru-Tubing Packer System)
Features/Benefits
 Can be installed via coil tubing, electric line, slickline or a
combination, allowing for operator flexibility and associated cost
savings.
 Requires only two trips to set or retrieve on slickline or wireline; one
or two trips on coil tubing. Saves time and risk compared to
conventional tubing stop and pack-off alternatives requiring several
trips to install.
 Use of two TTS Retrievable Seal Bore Packers and a Floating Seal
Assembly easily accommodate production-tubing movements caused
by downhole temperature changes due to well killing, stimulation,
and producing operations. Utilizing mechanical compression or
tension set packers, wireline pack-offs, as well as inflatables, has
little tolerance to production tubing movement. Also large I.D. /O.D.
ratio packer creates larger finished bores than competitive systems.
 Live well operations can easily be tolerated. In some cases
eliminates the need and expense of well killing operations.
 Each packer can be tested along with all connections of coil tubing
as they are run into the well. Allows for removal and replacement of
any failed components prior to attempting to flow the well.
 Superior sealing and anchoring system. Multi-durometer packing
systems hold pressure from above or below. Bi-directional caged slip
design anchors packer in both directions and can handle much
higher tail pipe loads (long patches not a problem).

Product Information
Series 4800 Controlled Set High Expansion Packer
Also known as the “Patch thru a Patch”, the High Expansion Packer was designed to
travel through an existing casing or tubing patch or other ID restriction(s) and set in a
larger ID tubular below. This system incorporates a variation of TTS’ “fixed slip” system
design to ensure each slip segment is separated, properly aligned with the packer axis,
and evenly spaced around the packer body. Further design features of the slips and
packer body allow for increased extension of the slip into larger diameters than
previously possible.
Thru Tubing Systems is further pleased to introduce the Controlled Set System, another
improvement to the Packer/Plug product line. The concept of this new feature is to
have a control mechanism for sequentially setting each of the packer components. This
ensures the elastomer is sufficiently energized prior to setting the lower slips. Precise,
repeatable energizing of the packing element enables TTS to achieve a hydraulic seal
from both directions.
The High Expansion Packer can be coupled with TTS’ Anchor Latch Seal Assembly and
Polished Bore Receptacle to create a variable length straddle system capable of
isolating intervals below restrictions and still provide relatively large flow area for zones
below. This system can be installed via coiled tubing, electric line, or wireline.

ACE Mix Cement Kits
ACE MixTM High Shear Bond Cement Kits are designed to maximize bonding and sealing ability under harsh
down-hole conditions. They provide sufficient fluid time to “round-trip” a bailer, while maintaining reasonable
initial set times and excellent API fluid loss properties as well.
The standard ACE Mix™ kit is packaged in two pails (dry blend and mix water) to yield 6 gallons of 16.4 ppg
cement slurry for BHT 100oF – 300oF (a single pail kit without water is available for export or remote locations).
The dry blend portion of the kit is divided and packaged into two separate 3 gallon bags inside the dry blend pail.
This allows the kit to be mixed and used as two - 3 gallon batches, if preferred. The dry blend portion of the kit
can be ordered packaged in a single 3 gallon pail to cut in half the weight to be lifted for safer handling operations.
The ACE MixTM product line is organized around a single base cement kit that provides a high density, high shear
bond, expanding cement slurry. This expanding, High Shear Bond formula is now available as the “standard” kit,
not special order. The performance of ACE Mix TM exceeds performance of other standard kits available in head
to head tests (see chart below).

PRODUCTS TESTED
The base ACE MixTM kit is also designed to allow for the addition of specific application add-ins or “wild cards”.
These add-ins specially enhance the performance of the kit for the unique condition. In this manner, the base
cement kit adapts to the unique application requirement eliminating the need for numerous specialty kits. Simply
select the proper Wild Card for the application and add to the base kit. For example, if the application is for 350oF,
add the HTE wild card for Hi-Temp applications. There is no need to carry multiple kit versions and increase the
amount of inventory. Wild Card add-ins are available for a wide variety of applications, with more under
development as additional customer needs and requirements are encountered.

Description of Wild Card Add-ins Available For Use With ACE Mix Kits:

HTE – High Temp Extender
o Additives for extending operating temperature range from 300o F to 400o F.

LTX – Low Temperature Expansion
o Standard expansion agents require minimal temperature of 200 o F to cause expansion of cement
during cure cycle. This patented additive causes ACE Mix to expand at low temperatures from
100o F to 200o F increasing Shear Bond.

SSW – Saturated Salt Water
o Certain brine and bromide fluids can cause problems for proper cement bailing, curing, and/or
strength development. This additive prevents flash set in the bailer and regulates cure time in a
high salinity environment. Slurry density is increased to 17.2 ppg using this additive.

HD-18 - High Density 18 ppg
o Increases the slurry density to 18 ppg for use in heavy well fluids.
Kits are manufactured using strict acceptance criteria for all material components. Each criterion is verified by
laboratory testing and documented. Additionally, each batch of cement kits is manufactured according to specific
quality control procedures for the manufacturing process. Again, laboratory testing of each batch of kits is
performed and documented. Samples of each kit batch are maintained at the lab for an extended time period for
future verification. Information is kept by Lot number to provide component traceability of individual chemical
components used in the manufacture of the kits. Kit performance numbers (fluid time, initial set, 12 hr and 24 hr
compressive strength and API fluid loss) are included with each kit.
Additional Special Application Kits Available




ETT – Extended Trip Time
o Provides extra rig-up and/or run time by delaying initial set of cement.
LCM – Lost Circulation Material
o Bridging Material is added to the kit to assist bridging in slotted liners, etc.
LTC – Low Temp Cure
o Enables curing of slurry at BHT of 60o-100oF.
XHT – Extreme High Temp

ACE Mix Cement (6 gallon) Kit Mixing Procedure
Kit design:
One pail containing Premium Class “H” Cement with proprietary blend of additives separated
into two bags each yielding 3 gallons of slurry packaged in a seven gallon pail. Also included
in kit are Defoamer, Retarder, ½ gallon pail, and a 60 cc (ml) syringe. Domestic kits have a
second pail containing required amount of water.
Slurry Density:
Kit Yield:
Water Requirement:
16.4 lb/gal
6 US gallons
3.0 US gallons (11.4 liters) Fresh Water
1. Measure BHT accurately prior to running cement.
2. For best results, the temperature of the dry blend and water solution needs to be 70 oF or
above prior to mixing. Storage indoors recommended.
3. For best results, use high speed mixer with rpm > 550 (under load) to sufficiently shear
cement while blending.
4. The kit may be mixed in a 3 gallon or a 6 gallon batch, follow guidelines related to desired
batch size.
5. The ACE Cement Kit is designed to allow addition of specialty add-in components (known as
“Wild Cards”, see Table 3) to accommodate unique well conditions without having to
purchase a separate special kit. Wild Cards come in packet form with their own mixing
instructions stating proper mixing order and any required change in water or retarder
concentration. If using a Wild Card, read and follow the instructions provided with the Wild
Card product to insure proper mixing order and procedure.
Mixing Procedure:
Step 1:
Open the cement pail and remove the containers of defoamer, retarder, ½ gallon pail,
and 60cc (ml) syringe.
Step 2:
Add the required amount of water to a clean mixing pail (6 gallon or larger). If mixing
a full six gallon batch, use the entire contents of the water pail provided (domestic kit only). If
desired, 3 gallon batches may be mixed. To mix in 3 gallon volume increments, scoop out
three ½ gallon pails of the mix water and place into the mixing pail.
NOTE: Export kits will require 3.0 US gallons (11.4 liters) of water for a 6 gallon batch or 1.4
US gallons (5.7 liters for a 3 gallon batch).
Step 3:
Shake the container labeled “defoamer” and pour the entire contents (for 6 gallon
batch) or one-half of the contents (for 3 gallon batch) into the water pail. Mix for two minutes
until blended well.
Step 4:
Determine the amount of retarder necessary from table 1, shown below. Add only
the retarder amounts listed for that temperature range and batch size. Shake the bottle of
retarder, and then add the total amount of liquid retarder listed for the temperature application
to the water using the 60 cc (ml) syringe.

Step 5:
Mix until the retarder is completely dissolved, but a minimum of five minutes. This is
now your mix water to be used to make the desired amount of 16.4 lb/gal slurry.
Step 6:
If mixing total contents of kit, add both dry blend bags (sequentially) to the mix water
containing retarder while high speed stirring. To mix a 3 gallon batch, add only one bag of the
dry cement blend to the mix water containing retarder, while it is being stirred. Take care in
adding the cement blend slowly (over a time period of approximately three minutes) into the
mix water to allow for proper hydration of the cement and to prevent screening out of lumps
of cement.
Step 7:
After completing Step 6, stir with high speed mixer (recommend to use pneumatic
type) for 10-minutes.
Step 8:
Pour the cement slurry through a screen or grate to ensure that there are no large
particles left un-mixed in the slurry. Verify density with a mud scale. Note: A non-pressurized
mud balance may cause the slurry density to appear slightly (+/- .2 ppg) less than the actual
density. If it is desirable to mix cement slurry to a lower or higher density, call TTS for Technical
Support and information. Note: The slurry will be thicker than 16 # slurry.

Series 9306 - Spiral Thru Tubing Bridge Plug
TTS’ Spiral Thru-tubing Bridge Plug* is designed to run through a smaller pipe size
or tubing restriction and set in larger ID casing below. The main application is for
zonal isolation or abandonment as a base for a cement plug. Other possible uses
include; depth control marker for subsequent gravel pack, whipstock, or perforating
operations. Deployment of this patented plug system is possible using wireline or
coiled tubing.
The plug system consists of a heavy duty anchor and an expanding steel frame
covered by a high expansion elastomer. The anchor holds the plug system in
place as the steel frame is expanded and engages the elastomer against the ID of
the casing wall. Plug construction (seal element and anchor) is modular to allow
the operator to adapt to multiple running conditions.
Total run-in length of the TTS Spiral Plug system (plug and setting tool) is a
maximum of 14.5’ long. This is relatively short compared to currently marketed
plug systems that may reach in excess of 30’ in length with their required setting
tool. TTS has developed a special setting kit that allows deployment by commonly
used power charge setting tools already used by service companies in their
existing plug setting operations.
Features/Benefits
 Modular design increases operational efficiency
 Short Overall Length increases ability to reach target zone

Series 1000 Positive Displacement Bailer
The Thru Tubing Systems Positive Displacement Bailer System is utilized to
ensure placement of cement at a precise depth. The TTS system is constructed
of a series of internally flush bailer sections used to carry the cement into the well.
A weight bar is released directing a swab piston through the bailer ID completely
swabbing the contents at the working depth. The contents of the bailer are
effectively isolated from the wellbore fluids during trip time. When used with a
suitable designed cement (kit) system, the PDB reduces the possibility of cement
stringing uphole as wireline is returned to the surface.
Total bailer length can be adjusted by varying the number of bailer sections to
achieve the desired tool length or cement volume. Optional actuators are
available to make the system non-explosive, if desired. The bailer system is
compatible with commonly used e-line equipment.

Series 8300 - Gravity Bailer
TTS Series 8300 Gravity Bailers are thin wall carbon steel tubulars used to convey
cement, resin, sand, and/or other materials into the wellbore via wireline. Stainless
steel material is available by special order. The standard bailer string version
utilizes a blow-away aluminum bottom with blasting cap to open the lower end of the
bailer string and “dump” the contents atop plugs, etc.
Every TTS manufactured bailer section is pull tested to 5000# to verify structural
integrity of the weld-on ends. This is one more way TTS’ quality inspection and
control procedures help to insure trouble free operations in your well.
The bailer system can become explosive-free using one of TTS’ Non-Explosive
Bailer Actuators.

Series 4010 - Wireline Pressure Setting Tool (Power Charge)
The Pressure Setting Tool is used to provide the stroke and force required to set bridge plugs, packers,
cement retainers, and other tension bolt/shear ring released devices via wireline. An electrically activated
power large (gas generator) produces a sufficient volume of high pressure gas. This gas pressure, acting
upon the piston area, provides the required amount of force to sever tension bolts or shear rings that
commonly attach the downhole tools to the setting tool.
In some models, the tool is made available in a multi-stage version. The addition of a stage increases the
piston area to generate additional force using he same power charge, thus allowing higher tension bolt/shear
ring values to be used if required. Tools are rated to 15,000 psi at 400° F.
Features/Benefits





Self Bleeding - relieves gas charge by-products downhole increasing safety and eliminating manual
bleeding of trapped pressure on surface
Fluid Metered – reduces and controls speed of setting cycle
Long Stroke – sufficient length to set tools requiring additional stoke
Adaptable – fits most commonly available plugs
Treated Surface – all exposed surfaces of a tool are specially treated for increased durability and
decreased friction.

Series 4020 - Hydrostatic Setting Tool (Non-Explosive)
The TTS Series 4020 Hydrostatic Setting Tool is a non-explosive setting tool used to provide the
stroke and force required to set bridge plugs, packers, cement retainers, and other tension bolt/shear
ring released tools. The tool utilizes a non-explosive actuator to allow bottomhole pressure (BHP) to
enter the tool. The BHP acting upon the internal piston area generates the required amount of force to
sever tension bolts or shear rings that commonly attach the plug/packer to the setting tool, all without
the use of explosives. The Hydrostatic Setting Tool eliminates the dangers associated with handling
explosives and the lost time and inconvenience of the imposed radio silence required when explosives
are utilized. Additionally, the logistics of acquiring, permitting, and shipping explosives is eliminated,
making operations in remote areas easier.
Tools are designed as modular multi-stage version. Depending on BHP and the shear value
requirement, an additional stage(s) may be required. The addition of a stage increases the piston area
to generate additional force from the BHP, thus allowing higher tension bolt/shear ring values to be
used or a lower BHP requirement. The lower end of the setting tool emulates the explosive version
allowing the same setting sleeves to be used for both models.
Features/Benefits

Series 4200 - Fixed Slip Magna-Range Plug (Pressure Rated)
Magna-Range Bridge Plugs are designed to travel through tubing ID restriction(s) and set in a larger ID
tubular below. Traditional magna-range plugs have one piece cast iron slips that fracture into segments
during the setting cycle creating potential problems in setting the plug properly. Segments can be broken off
while running, fail to segment as designed, and segments may become misaligned, thereby improperly
anchoring the plug body. Any problems are only magnified as the annulus between plug body and larger ID
bore increases.
TTS introduces the Fixed Slip Magna-Range Bridge Plug, representing an improvement over the traditional
Magna-Range Bridge Plug product line. The purpose of the new system is to have a mechanism for ensuring
proper deployment of the slips and guarantee accurate compression of the seal elements. It entails a unique
method of attaching each slip segment to the plug body thereby holding the slips in proper axial alignment
during setting. It also reduces frictional forces created by conventional slip design that must drag the lower
slips upward in the tubing during setting. The Fixed Slip Magna-Range lower slip is not completely opened
and set until the elastomer is sufficiently compressed. Proper placement and anchoring of the slips helps
ensure proper retention of the elastomer seal elements in the proper position to establish and maintain a
pressure tight seal.
Testing has proven the Fixed Slip Magna-Range is effective in holding pressure from both directions and
capable of withstanding reverse pressure cycles. TTS is the only manufacturer to post a pressure rating
on a “Magna Range” plug.

Series 2105 - TTS Tubing Bridge Plug (10K)
General
The TTS Tubing Bridge Plug is designed with a few defining features that
differentiate it from the conventional cast iron plugs currently on the market. It
utilizes a specially designed Ecner Array elastomer system to provide structural
integrity within the sealing element to withstand the differential pressure. This
eliminates the fragile slotted metal backups normally employed to support the
sealing element in the annular area between the plug and the pipe wall, making
for a more robust plug design. The running diameter is smaller than most
conventional plugs. Compact and dependable, the TTS Tubing Bridge Plug is
easily set via wireline or pipe. Setting force is maintained by a ratcheting lock
ring on top of the Bridge Plug.
Features/Benefits
 Small run –in OD, increases ability to deploy thru and decreases
possibility of sticking in tight spots or bends in tubing.
 No fragile exposed metal backups reduces chance of plug damage
which could lead to sticking the plug/setting tool system during
deployment.
 Heat treated slips designed to hold in 13Cr tubulars.
 Lab testing verified ability to withstand pressure differential of 10,000 psi
from both directions while subjecting plug to pressure reversal cycles.
 Available with bottom adapter Bow Spring Centralizer or other wireline
tool.

Series 7850 - ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella Plug
TTS introduces the Positively Deployed ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella Plug designed to pass
through small restrictions and set in a larger ID tubular below. The ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella
Plug firmly anchors into place a “metal petal” umbrella that functions as a cement basket to be
utilized as a base for subsequent placement (dumping) of bridging material, cement, or resin.
The unique setting mechanism positively deploys the bottom slips 12” below the end of the
running sleeve.
The TTS ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella Plug offers multiple features that improve reliability. Slip
segments have been designed to hold 1600# each to improve setting and holding ability. A tool
barrier is installed above the basket to prevent accidental damage due to wireline tool string
contact. A second inverted basket directs any migrating fluids into the thru vent system.
Features/Benefits











Positive Deployment of the ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella Plug from running sleeve to
wellbore. The plug is mechanically pushed out of the running sleeve to overcome
frictional forces caused by metal petals, BSC, and well fluid.
Wireline Tool Barrier prevents accidental damage to basket during operations.
Double basket supports cement column and diverts migrating fluid to vent.
The ACE Thru Tubing Umbrella Plug uses overlapping spring steel petals to form a
cone opening to the casing ID and provide a strong base to start the plugback
operation. Metal petals are stronger than other cloth and Kevlar baskets and also
provide resistance to damage by corrosive wellbore fluids.
Case Hardened Slips assure placement in casing grades up to Q-125. Slip segments
are set for specific setting range and will not set in outside sjpecified range
A pressure balanced sliding sleeve vent valve maintains equalization across plug until
it is closed, which is easily accomplished using wireline.
Plugs for casing up to 7-5/8” are made “with shot”, a tube that contains a small amount
of bridging material which deploys into the basket when set.
Each plug is manufactured to accept the addition of a TTS Bow Spring Centralizer to
assist entry of the running assembly into liner tops.
Stocked for all API casing sizes (4-1/2” thru 9-5/8”). Special tubing, casing, and
openhole sizes or Corrosive service (H2S, CO2) models available on request.
Standard tool running diameter is 1.63” for 7-5/8” and smaller casing; 2” for 8-5/8” and
larger casing; standard length is 13’ for vented, 6’ 6” for non-vented (7’6” for 8-5/8”
and larger)
Plugs with custom features (e.g., length, slip range, etc.) available on order.

Attachment of ACE Plug and Push Tool String to Wireline for Installation of Detonator
NOTE: These procedures are written and provided as a guideline to assembly. They are not
intended to replace standard oil and /or wireline company operational practices or safety
procedures. Where a difference exists with such practice or procedures, standard company
procedures should be followed.
3.1.
Inspect all threads on setting sleeve and Double Box Window Sub (item 2). Verify make-up and
compatibility with the Wireline Company electrical contact sub (item 1).
3.2.
Attach the wireline tool string (weight bars, CCL, electrical contact sub for fluid exposed
connection) to the wireline cablehead.
3.3.
Make electrical checks required to verify proper working of the wireline tool string (CCL,
electrical continuity, etc.)
3.4.
Install or activate safety mechanisms required for handling and attaching explosives (safety key,
grounding switch, grounding clamps, warning signs, etc.).
3.5.
Using suitable downhole wire, establish an electrical connection to the conductor on the
electrical contact sub. The wire should be long enough to extend thru the Double Box Window
Sub. Insulate the electrical connection for operation in an exposed fluid environment, (e.g.,
rubber boot, electrical tape, etc.). Use nylon string or boot sleeve as necessary.
3.6.
Make up the Double Box Window Sub to the wireline tool string. Pull the end of the attached wire
thru the side window of the sub.
3.7.
Remove the Detonator Retainer (item 5) from the interior of the Tension Bolt (DO NOT remove
the large external nut adjacent to the thread of the Top Sub of the Tension Bolt Actuator
Assembly). Place the wires and the appropriate fluid exposed detonator into the Detonator
Retainer (from the threaded end) and install the Detonator (item 3) into the ID of the Tension
Bolt until it bottoms out. Secure into place with the Detonator Retainer. An appropriate detonator
would be an Austin Powder Oilstar A-96L or equivalent.
3.8.
Pull the wire leads from the Detonator thru the bottom end of the Double Box Window Sub and
out of the side window. Thread the Top Sub of the Tension Bolt Actuator Assembly (item 4) into
the Window Sub.
3.9.
Cut the Detonator leads to length and make an electrical connection from one lead to the wire
connection established in step 3.5 above. This connection must be appropriately sealed for
exposure to well fluid. Secure the other Detonator lead to the ground screw in the Double Box
Window Crossover Sub. Place excess wire back into interior of the sub and secure.
3.10. The Blasting Cap Actuator is now armed and ready to run into the well.

Field Operating Procedure
4.1.
Shut-in well 48 hours prior to starting plugback operations. KEEP THE WELL PRESSURE STATIC
UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE PLUG BACK PROJECT AND THE PLUG IS TESTED.
4.2.
Perform an initial inspection of the well when first arriving at the well site. Record wellhead
pressure and time. Pressure up the lubricator to well head pressure prior to opening the swab
valve. Equalization of lubricator pressure and wellhead pressure prior to opening valve is required
before each run. If the well has a full column of liquid to the surface, it also requires bleed-off of
pressure increase caused by displacement when going inhole and replacement of the fluid when
coming out of the hole.
4.3.
Make a full length (same as dump bailer string) gage run, preferably with a thermometer or other
temperature recording device. Record the BHT. Locate and note fluid level if possible. Note any
tight spots. Run CCL across plug interval and determine if sufficient markers are present for
accurate depth control via CCL.
4.4.
Verify dimensional data from ACE Umbrella Plug QC Sheet corresponds to well parameters (QC
sheet attached to plug shipping tube). Note dimensions for slip placement, basket location, and
bottom of the plug.
4.5.
Make up ACE Umbrella Plug running assembly with a CCL. An optional Bow Spring Centralizer is
available to attach to the bottom of the plug for use in high angle wells and/or re-entry into smaller
ID (e.g., isolation packer, liner top).
4.5.1.
NOTE: The ACE Umbrella running leave has a heavy wall segment approximately 2-1/2”
long immediately below the threaded end. Place wrenches only on this area when making
up tool string. Do not clamp on the thin wall tube below the heavy wall segment.
4.5.2.
Run the ACE Umbrella Plug in the hole. Once at desired depth, carefully tie in with casing
collars. Locate the ACE Umbrella Plug below the setting depth and slowly pull up to the
desired setting depth. If the setting depth is not critical, it is recommended that the bottom
set of slips be set 1 foot into a perforated interval or 1 foot below a casing collar connection.
4.5.3.
NOTE: The bottom end of the ACE Umbrella Plug is positively deployed one foot out the
end of the setting sleeve when set. This must be added to the setting depth to place the
basket at the desired depth.
4.5.4.
Fire detonator to initiate Push Tool and release ACE Umbrella Plug at desired setting depth.
Wait 1 minute and pull off bottom at <30 fpm, monitor the weight indicator for excessive
drag.
4.6.
Make up dump bailer to place 1-2’ of bridging material on the spring steel basket prior to
placement of cement or resin. Additional bridging material (above the original 1-2’) is required in
high angle(>25º) wells, in cross flow environment, or when multiple open perforation zones exist.
Locate the end of the bailer 2 feet above the vent valve to dump. If the hole angle is higher than
60º and annular spacing will allow passage of the bailer string, locate the bailer bottom 2-3 feet
above the basket to dump bridging material. NOTE: Avoid contact with the basket. Contact to the
metal petal basket can cause damage.
4.7.
Make dump bailer runs to place initial cement volume until it is within 12 – 18 inches below the
vent ports prior to closing the vent valve (this is the base plug). Dump cement as close to top of
previous run as possible. As with bridging material, if annular spacing allows, locate the end of the
bailer 1-2 feet above the top of the previous run. Pull off bottom at < 30 fpm. Maintain this speed
on all cement bailer runs within 1000 feet of plug.

4.8.
Wait a minimum of 18 hours after the last dump bailer run before closing the vent valve (unless
using Ultra Set Activator to eliminate waiting time, see product information on Ultra Set Activator
for details).
4.9.
Make up tool string consisting of CCL, weight bars, centralizer (s), and Lead Impression Block
(LIB) and run to top of plug. Set down atop vent valve to close vent, it is not necessary to beat
down with excessive force.
4.10. Make additional bailer runs as required to achieve plug height.
4.11. Wait a minimum of 24 hours after the last dump bailer run before pressure testing the cement plug
(unless using Ultra Set Activator to eliminate waiting time, see product information on Ultra Set
Activator for details).

Series 1201 – Selective Release Tool
The Thru Tubing Systems Selective Release Tool is designed for use with wireline
deployed explosive or propellant tools. It is installed as an integral component in the tool
string between the CCL and the firing sub attached to the top of the tool body. The
purpose of the tool is to guarantee separation of the expended or used downhole tool from
the basic wireline BHA (cablehead, sinker bars, CCL) used to deploy the downhole tool.
An operator may need to jettison a downhole tool for a variety of reasons, although it is
primarily due to a change in tool OD or shape that would make retrieval to the surface risky.
This would be the case with perforating guns, jet cutters, etc. The Selective Release Tool
gives the operator the option of release at any time after the downhole tool is functioned by
selectively discharging a second detonator. It utilizes pressure from the detonator and/or
subsequent BHP flooding into the tool upon detonation.
Special features incorporated into the design of the Selective Release Tool eliminate
possible problems that have been encountered when utilizing other commercially available
release tools.
Some available tools require the lower half of the tool string to become
stuck and the top side to be pulled using the wireline unit to cause the components to
separate. One unique feature of the Selective Release Tool is the positive separation of
the wireline BHA from the expended tool. This is accomplished by an internal shifting piston
applying opposing force between the two halves and causing separation without assistance
from the wireline unit. The Selective Release Tool works even when deployed in a
horizontal section of a well.
Another feature of the Selective Release Tool’s design is the distribution of weight and
applied forces on the tool components. The weight of the downhole tool string is distributed
to a series of steel balls or keys in an internal profile. This eliminates the possibility of an
accidental release during primary tool actuation, by forces exerted on the severing tension
bolt used to suspend the downhole tool on other commercially available tool releases.
The Selective Release Tool is capable of carrying a total tool load of up to 10,000# and will
operate at BHP of 15,000 psi. The BHT is only limited by the explosives and seals
selected. The upper portion of the Selective Release Tool returned to the surface is easily
re-dressed for re-use.

Series 1200 – Auto Release Tool
The Thru Tubing Systems Auto Release Tool is designed for use with wireline deployed
explosive or propellant tools. It is installed as an integral component in the tool string
between the CCL and the firing sub attached to the top of the tool body. The purpose of
the tool is to guarantee separation of the expended or used downhole tool from the basic

An operator may wish to jettison a downhole tool for a variety of reasons although it is
primarily due to a possible change in tool OD or shape that would make retrieval to the
surface risky. This would be the case with perforating guns, jet cutters, etc. The Auto
Release Tool separates at the time of downhole tool function. It utilizes pressure from the
tool activation and/or subsequent BHP flooding into the tool after activation. The tool
operation is passive from the operator’s point of view, no subsequent firing of secondary
detonators or additional surface operations must be performed for the expended tool to be
released.
Special features incorporated into the design of the Auto Release Tool eliminate possible
problems that have been encountered when utilizing other commercially available release
tools. Some available tools require the lower half of the tool string to be stuck and the top
side to be pulled using the wireline unit to cause the components to separate. One unique
feature of the Auto Release Tool is the positive separation of the Wireline BHA from the
expended tool. This is accomplished by an internal shifting piston applying opposing force
between the two halves and causes separation without assistance from the wireline unit.

section of a well.
Another feature of the Auto Release Tool’s design is the distribution of weight and applied
forces on the tool components. The weight of the downhole tool string is distributed to a

of an accidental release during primary tool actuation, by the forces exerted on the severing
