Precautions Throughout this document, there are important precautionary statements used to warn of possible hazards to persons or equipment. A precaution identifies a possible hazard and then explains what may happen if the hazard is not avoided. The Danger, Warning, and Caution statements should be followed at all times to ensure safe and proper installation, operation, and reliability of the product. When multiple precautions are present, they are listed in order of severity as follows: Danger! Indicates that a certain risk is associated with the task that will cause severe personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the procedure is not adhered to as written. Warning! Indicates that a certain risk is associated with the task that can cause personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the procedure is not adhered to as written. Caution! Indicates that a certain risk is associated with the task that can or will cause personal injury or property damage if the procedure is not adhered to as written. General Safety Precautions These precautions will be found throughout the document whenever the optical cards or other system components are being discussed. Danger! Never look into the end of an optical fiber. Exposure to invisible LASER radiation can cause serious and/or permanent damage to the eye or even blindness. Verify the optical source is disabled through the use of an optical power meter before handling optical fibers. Use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than those specified within this document may result in hazardous laser radiation exposure. Caution! Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive devices. ESD can cause catastrophic failure or degraded life and performance of a device. Use an anti-static wrist strap connected to a properly grounded source before contacting any electronic devices. Standards Compliance NEBS Level 3 per SR-3580 (ref. A flexible cross-connect allows the shelf to provide multiple connection types down to STS-1 level granularity. Traffic of all types, including FastE and GbE, can be merged onto a single fiber network with the TE-2020 system, all in a smaller form factor than other products on the market. For more information on Turin Networks TE-2020 features, see the TE-2020 Applications and Engineering Guide. 1.3 TE-206 The TE-206 is a small multi-service platform based on the TE-2020 design to provide low-capacity drop capabilities (GbE, FastE, DS1, DS3) in an access environment. Since the TE-206 can function with other types of NEs and does not require a TE-2020, its ordering and product information is provided in seperate documents. For more information on Turin Networks TE-206 features, see the TE-206 Applications and Engineering Guide. Release 5.0.x Turin Networks Page 1-1 TraverseEdge 2020 Ordering Guide, Chapter 1: Introduction Page 1-2 Turin Networks Release 5.0.x Chapter 2 Rack Configuration This chapter describes the standard rack configuration for the TE-2020 network element, including the TE2020 Main Shelf, OTS2, ETS1, and ETS2. 2.1 Rack Description A standard 19" or 23" compliant rack is typically seven feet high and is used to house equipment stacked in standard configurations for testing and operations. The 19" rack has an inside mounting width of 17.72", and the 23" rack has an inside mounting width of 21.5". A typical rack may contain: • • • • • • Circuit Breaker / Alarm Panel (customer supplied) TE-2020 Main Shelves (19” or 23”) OTS2 Shelves (optional; 19” or 23”) DS3/EC1 Tributary (ETS1) Shelves (optional; 19” or 23”) ETS2 Shelves (optional; 19” or 23”) Fiber Storage Trays (optional; 19” or 23”) 2.2 TE-2020 Shelves The TE-2020 Main Shelf is 3.47” tall requiring 2 RUs (rack unit = 1.75") in a standard 19" or 23" rack mount. The TE-2020 is the main shelf with the tributary shelves typically being located beneath it. The OTS2 Shelf is 3.47” tall requiring 2 RUs of rack space. The ETS1 and ETS2 are each 5.2” tall requiring 3 RUs of rack space. Each shelf is available in either 19" or 23" configurations from the factory. 2.3 Equipment Layout This section describes a typical configuration for a TE-2020 system in a central office rack. Danger: Invisible laser radiation in use. Avoid direct exposure to the beam. Never look into the end of an optical fiber. Serious and/or permanent damage to the eye or blindness can occur. Use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than those specified within this document may result in hazardous laser radiation exposure. Caution: Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive devices. ESD can cause catastrophic failure or degraded life and performance of a device. Use an anti-static wrist strap connected to a properly grounded source before contacting any electronic devices. Caution! Care should be taken when inserting optical fibers into the optical PLMs. Ensure that optical power level input levels do not exceed the maximum input levels specified for the PLM (See the TE-2020 Applications Engineering Guide (WR-D2020APS-00000) for details). Input optical measurements must be taken and attenuation adjustments must be made before inserting the fibers, otherwise permanent damage could occur to the optical receivers. Damaged optical receivers due to application of power levels in excess of those defined in Turin Networks' specifications are not covered by Turin Networks' product warranty. NOTE: For short optical spans between nodes, an optical attenuator may be needed to reduce the power input to the IR modules. 4.3.1 OC-192 PLMs Fixed Wavelength OC-192 PLMs Unit Name Description Catalog Number Configuration Can utilize up to two per TE-2020 Main Shelf only.
