21st Century Community Learning Centers is provided
through a partnership between the Connecticut State
Department of Education and CREC.

Connecticut-Based Menu Trainings
You for Youth (Y4Y)
The Y4Y website, http://y4y.ed.gov, provides support
to grantees of the U.S. Department of Education’s 21st
Century Community Learning Centers program. Based
on research and best practices, Y4Y offers training in
the what, why, and how of a variety of topics. Y4Y also
presents a rich collection of resource materials and a
variety of opportunities to connect with education experts
and practitioners. Current course topics include: family
involvement; project-based learning; aligning with the
school day; science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics; and strengthening partnerships.

21st Century Community Learning Centers
(CCLC) Networking Meetings
Networking meetings are held three times during
the school year and serve as an opportunity for
program staff to participate in targeted professional
development and to network with peers. Attendance
at 21st CCLC networking meetings is mandatory
for all funded programs. Meetings will be held from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register online.

Assessment of Program Practices Tool
APT is designed to help programs and strengthen quality
practices using two comprehensive tools that combine
observation and self-assessment. Quality advisors,
afterschool directors, supervisors, curriculum and
education coordinators, and 21st CCLC personnel who
are interested in utilizing the A Program Assessment
System are encouraged to attend this training to
understand APT tools and how they are used for
continual program improvement. This training will be
held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register online.

AfterSchool21 Data Training
New and experienced users can attend this training
session to troubleshoot, to explore different features of
the AfterSchool 21 database, or to utilize the time as a
working session. New user trainings will be held from
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and training for experienced
users will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday Cafe
Friday Cafe is a morning discussion and networking
series built to help connect those in the field of
family and community engagement. Sessions are held
monthly at unique locations throughout the state
and feature guest speakers to facilitate discussion on

High school programs have strengths and challenges
of their own. During these meetings, program
coordinators share ideas and curricula and plan
statewide activities.

How Welcoming is Your School?
Using the Connecticut Welcoming Schools tool,
adapted from the Institute for Responsive Education,
participants will learn how to assess the climate and
culture of their school and will explore ideas for
creating a family-friendly school. This training will be

Raising Readers Parent Club
Facilitator Training
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be
certified to conduct Raising Readers Parents Clubs.
During these clubs, parents learn the importance of
reading to their children, the skills needed to make
read-aloud sessions enjoyable, and the importance of
promoting literacy in the home. This two-day training
will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register online.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports for After-School Programs
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
for after-school programs involves a proactive,
comprehensive, and systematic continuum of support
designed to provide opportunities to all students.
The goal is to achieve social, behavioral, and learning
success. Front-line staff will learn strategies to
implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports in an after-school setting during this multimedia, interactive training. Register online.
