DeLaval barn system controller Control all of your systems as one DeLaval Barn System Controller BSC lets you manage all aspects of your manure-handling as a single, integrated system. The BSC lets program your alley cleaning, gutter cleaning and manure transfer systems to work together. This can greatly increase your system efficiency and reduce your operating costs. The easy-to-use interface of the BSC lets you fine-tune your manurehandling operations to suit your farm needs. It also lets you program your system to automatically adapt to changing weather conditions. The benefits of the BSC extend beyond manure-handling. The same controller can also control your ventilation, lighting and cow-cooling systems – a single controller for all of your barn systems. Integrate your system The BSC lets you control all your equipment as one integrated system. Up to four scrapers, cleaning solutions (cable, chain or hydraulic), four collection solutions (hydraulic or cable), four agitators and four pumps and presses – up to 16 pieces of equipment – all be operated as a single system. The benefits of synchronising your equipment as one integrated system are increased efficiency and reduced energy wastage caused by running systems when they are not needed. Choose the operation mode that suits your needs: • Fully automated, sensor activated time schedule • Continuous mode – for intensive handling • One time cycle mode – when an extra cycle is needed • Manual operation – for hands-on operation A system that adapts to the conditions Different weather conditions affect manure-handling in different ways. If manure dries out or freezes solid, your whole system can come to a grinding halt. The BSC lets you program your system to react to changing weather conditions. Wind and temperature sensors inside and outside your barn feed directly into your BSC. This means you can program your system to activate different cleaning cycles and frequencies to suit the weather conditions. This functionality also helps you to protect the environment. Windy conditions can increase ammonia gas emissions. Programming your manure handling system to automatically increase cycle frequency when windy conditions are detected, can improve the environment both inside and outside your barn. It also ensures that ammonia forms nitrogen in the manure rather than the air. This improves its fertilizing potential reduces the requirement for costly synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. Naturally, all energy savings achieved by better control not only reduces costs but also reduces the total emissions from the power generation per liter of milk produced. With the BSC, you don’t even need to be in your barn to be making smart decisions. Program your manure system to know which areas of your barn they should take extra care. After all, your cows are your most valuable asset. It pays to treat them with care. DeLaval barn system controller Control at your fingertips Simple, touchpad controls make programming your BSC easy. You can program standard cycles for standard conditions and special cycles for special conditions. These are some of the program options that are available: Climate programs Frost Guard When temperatures fall: Program your system to increase cycle frequency to prevent manure from freezing solid. Wind Guard When wind levels increase: Program your system to increase cycle frequency to prevent excessive ammonia buildup (accessories not included). Dry Guard When temperatures rise: Program your system to increase cleaning cycle frequency to prevent manure from drying out. Cow kindness programs Obstacle detection Your BSC monitors the load on each scraper. If it encounters an obstacle, such as a cow on the ground, it automatically stops the scraper. After a pause it tries again, if the obstacle is still there, the BSC sounds an alarm. Parking Zone Parking areas: Program your manure scraper to park itself out of harm’s way when it is not operating. Choose a preferred resting location or multiple locations to suit the layout of your barn. Operation Programs Low Speed Zone Level control Busy areas: Choose areas where your scraper should slow down, such as walkways and high-traffic zones, to avoid accidents. Special Care Zone Sensitive areas: Some areas, such as calving areas, are too sensitive for automatic cleaning. Set your system to exclude these areas in the automatic cycle but to notify barn personnel to provide a manual override. Note: This function is only available with single alley cleaning solutions. The BSC connects to level monitors (accessories not included) to ensure that your systems only work when they need to. When pits are full, agitation and transfer systems start. This prevents energy wastage and unnecessary equipment operation. 1 2 3 2 1 System cycle Synchronise all manure handling equipment to run only when they need to - increasing efficiency and reducing energy wastage. It can handle complex layouts and even simplifies barn planning because there is no need to focus on fixed manure scraper requirements. The main advantage is the flexibility and low demand on barn planning for manure handling as the robot cleans almost every corner. All sites that require cleaning by the robot need to be free of obstacles. For small obstacles, a scraper lifting unit is available as an option. If possible, the docking station should be placed in the middle of the barn. Technical data Dimensions (LxWxH) incl. scraper: 1484x718x640 cm Width of scraper: 130–190 cm Each cleaning track needs to have small transponders drilled into the floor at a set distance for robot navigation. Maximum area covered by one robot is typically an area of 5 500 m2 per day depending on the barn layout. To see how many times the robot can run per day make a calculation according to the barn layout and scraper speed, which is four-five m/min. The entire barn needs to have a minimum and unobstructed passage height of 700 mm. The robot scraper is extremely flexible when installing and if the farm expands. You only need to make a new route if you want to cover a larger area and the robot is more or less independent of alley length and width. Cover a 60 cm diameter disc above the floor with manure, allowing the sample to flow freely. Wait one minute and measure the depth at the centre. Always perform the slump test to determine the actual manure consistency. The following chart is simply to aid in visual recognition of approximate consistency. Manure depth Description 1 – 2 cm Manure is very liquid and splashes easily. Water has been mixed into the manure to produce this consistency 3 – 4 cm Manure appears runny and does not form a distinct pile. Manure splatters when it hits the floor. Cows on lush pasture often have this type of manure. Manure looks like porridge and will show concentric rings or ripples on the surface. The manure makes a plopping sound when it hits the floor. Manure is slow to flow and tends to stick to boots. Dry cows and heifers may have this type of manure. Manure shows faecal balls and retains shape. This is considered solid and cannot be pumped. 5 – 6 cm 8 – 10 cm 12+ cm 14 cm 12 cm 2 to 14 cm 5 to 12 cm 12 cm 10 cm 2 to 7 cm 8 cm 6 cm 4 cm 2 cm 1 to 4 cm 0 to 1.5 cm 0 cm Technical data DeLaval SLP180 DeLaval SMP60 HTP60 EP400-500 SMP60 with hopper SLP180 in pit SP480 SP480 102 mm SLP180 SMP60 Motor 5.5 kW 5.5 kW 5.5 kW Max. flow rate 510 l/min 285 l/min 195 l/min Max. operation length 350 m 180 m 60 m Output pressure 4.3 bar - - Manure type Slurry <10% Semi-solid <10-20% Solid 15-30% Bedding type Homogenous manure with <10% dry matter Short straw, Sand Long straw Application Transfer.
